Nizhny Novgorod is the largest scientific and cultural center of Russia. It is famous all over the world not only as a "pocket of Russia", but also as one of the strongest Russian scientific regions. In May 1930, in connection with the reform of higher education, a medical institute was created on the basis of the medical faculty of the University of Nizhny Novgorod. In June 1998, this is a major structural unit uniting the Faculty of Improvement of Doctors, Clinical Residency, Clinical Internature, Department of Advanced Traffic Qualifications, Department for the advanced training of secondary medical professionals was reorganized to the Institute of Postgraduate Education State University "Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy". NIGMA stably takes 6-10 places in the ranking medical universities Russia.
