    For almost 80 years of history, more than 200,000 highly qualified specialists have been trained within the walls of the higher aviation educational institution. Among them are well-known scientists, heads of aviation companies, enterprises, organizations and institutions that provide aircraft flights, maintenance and repair, passenger and cargo transportation.

    The university staff has something to be proud of. Corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine M. Golego, A. Aksenov, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine P. Nazarenko, Lenin Prize laureates, professors V. Krylov, G. Maikopar, State Prize Laureate, Professor Y. Parkhomovsky, President airlines "International Airlines of Ukraine" V. Potemsky, President of the Transport Clearing House of Russia S. Illichov and other well-known figures of science and technology from many countries. The pride of the university is its graduate, an outstanding scientist in the field of aviation and astronautics, general designer of rocket and space systems, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and State prizes, academician V. Chelomey.

    The university started powerful scientific schools in the fields of management, mechanics, electronics, electrical engineering, materials science, informatics and computer technology. Their founders were Professor T. Bashnya, Academicians A. Kukhtenko and G. Pukhov, Corresponding Members A. Penkov, B. Malinovsky, Professors A. Grokholsky, L. Ilnitsky and others.

    Unique instruments, aviation and missile control systems have been created. space technology, advanced technologies, and, as a result, high scientific and pedagogical potential of the university.

    Over the years, the university was headed by M. Korolko, V. Podporinov, D. Glinchuk, N. Taranyuk, Gorchakov, P. Podchasova. In 1954-1975 M. Golego worked as the rector. He made a significant contribution to the construction of the educational complex, the creation and development of its material - technical base, organizations scientific work, the formation of a scientific and pedagogical team. In 1975-1988 the university was headed by A. Aksenov. From 1988 to 1998 the university is headed by P. Nazarenko, from 1998 to 2008 the university is headed by V. Babak; since 2008 M. Kulik has been appointed rector.

    Given the nationwide and international recognition results of activities and a significant contribution to the development of national higher education and science, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine L. Kuchma in September 2000 the university was given the status of national.

    Today NAU is one of the most powerful aviation higher educational institutions world, where more than 50 thousand students study, among them 1200 foreign students from 49 countries of the world.

    Powerful scientific - teacher training schools make it possible to train not only engineering specialists, but also economists, lawyers, ecologists, translators, psychologists, sociologists, etc. ...

    The educational process is provided by a highly qualified scientific and pedagogical team, which includes 15 academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 270 doctors of sciences, professors and more than 900 candidates of sciences, associate professors. Leading specialists of airlines and industrial enterprises are involved in the educational process. Among the teachers there are 80 honored workers of science and technology and laureates of State prizes.

    The university consists of seventeen institutes, seven colleges, a technical school, two lyceums, the Center for Air and Space Law, and the European Regional Centers of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

    The territory of the university is 72 hectares, the total area of ​​educational buildings is 140 thousand square meters. m. in educational process 75 aircraft and helicopters, 42 aircraft engines, 3 integrated flight simulators, 240 onboard systems, simulating stands, over 6,000 modern computers are used.

    The book fund of the scientific and technical library is more than 2.6 million copies. The University has the only training hangar in the world, a training airfield, a radio range and a training ground for aeronautical ground equipment, an aerodynamic and training complex.

    The campus of the university is 11 dormitories, a canteen for 1000 seats, an Internet cafe, a student "Bistro", medical Center, equipped with modern diagnostic medical equipment, a dispensary, a Center for Culture and Arts with a hall for 1500 seats, a Center for Sports and Health, on the basis of which national teams in many sports, winners of competitions of different levels, train. Popular among staff and students is the yacht club and clubs for aircraft modeling and hang gliding.
