    Outwardly, the transformation of the Kemerovo Mining University into the Kuzbass Polytechnic Institute occurred routinely and almost imperceptibly. The teachers and students went on a summer vacation from the OIG, and returned to KuzPI. According to the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Council of Ministers (Minutes No. 23 of July 7, 1965), the Deputy Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the USSR M.I. Prokopiev signed Order No. 233 of July 29, 1965 “On the transformation of the Kemerovo Mining Institute into the Kuzbass Polytechnic Institute”.

    However, in reality, the situation was not so simple. The initiators of the reorganization were the Kemerovo Regional Committee of the CPSU and the Economic Council. It was from their submission that this question was posed and gained real outlines. In the institute there were both supporters and opponents of this idea.

    If the university administration and the party committee were generally in favor, then the leading teachers of the mining department doubted. This is pf Lukyanov, P.M. Kovachevich, E.A. Sigaev, D.L. Garbuz et al. In their speeches at the party meeting on September 24, 1965, they spoke about the haste and backstage of this decision, the absence of a well-thought-out KuzPI structure, and an insufficient material, technical, and personnel base. Yes, and the very idea of transforming the OIG into KuzPI was, in their opinion, initially not fruitful, because There are only a few specialized mining institutes, and polytechnic institutions are numerous even in Siberia. In their opinion, it was necessary to develop, above all, the key mining faculty, strengthen its material base, improve the structure of departments, strengthen the teaching staff, and not be carried away by the creation of new specialties and faculties. After the ministerial decision was taken, an intense search for resources and reserves began. And there was something to think about. The areas of the institute were designed for 3.5 thousand students, and already 6.5 thousand studied, it was supposed to further increase admission 16. It was imperative to expand the classroom fund, laboratories, staff of teachers. The resolution of the September Plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU directed universities to deepen the economic training of students of all specialties - this problem also needed to be urgently addressed.

    The Chair of Economics under the direction of Doctor of Economics, Professor V.E. Popova, who could no longer provide high-quality economic training for all engineers of day, evening and correspondence courses. Therefore, the question naturally arose of the need to create an economic faculty.

    A lively controversy unfolded around the new task, which splashed into the pages of the newspaper For Engineering Personnel. Her presentation was opened by associate professors of the department of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences N.A. Fedorov, A.A. Orekhovsky and Art. teacher PM Pleskova, entitled: "The main tasks of raising the level of training of engineering personnel." Then followed the article of art. Professor of Economics, A. Zlenko, Professor P. Lukyanov, and others. All were unanimous in one thing — economic preparation should be improved immediately, but opinions on how to do this were divided. Some believed that the most effective way was the creation of a new faculty, others (mainly miners), on the contrary, believed that with this approach attention to the specific economy would weaken and the economic training of process engineers of both mining and other specialties would deteriorate. They proposed introducing qualified mining engineers and economists into the profiling departments of the mining department and creating a department for organizing the mining industry at the GF17. In fact, it was a continuation of the old dispute about what an institute should be: mining or polytechnic. One can understand the anxiety of the leaders of the mining faculty, who really did not have enough space for new laboratories, who, not without reason, feared losing their leading position when new faculties appeared. However, in 1968 the Faculty of Engineering and Economics was established.

    The creation of the IEF took place through the separation of three economic specialties from the ShSF: “Economics and organization of the mining industry” (1705), “Economics and organization of mechanical engineering” (1709), “Economics and organization of the chemical industry” (1711). At the mining faculty there remained: "Construction of underground structures and mines" (0206) and "Industrial and civil construction" (1201). The first dean of the IEF was K.I. Vorobyov.

    In general, 1965-1970. were a period of intensive development of the institute, which consisted of eight faculties and 37 departments. This entailed a gradual and purposeful growth of the material base of the institute. In 1965 there were three educational buildings, and one of them (No. 3) was located on the right bank in the Mine area. There were engaged first-year students and special department. This created a lot of problems. First-year students were cut off from the institute’s team and were poorly involved in social life. The training base was also insufficient. There was not enough literature in the classrooms, and they worked in one shift, while the students studied in two. Teachers could not work with students in the afternoon, because they were connected by institute transportation, and it was extremely difficult to get to the mine at Mine and it took a lot of time.

    The management of the institute systematically raised the issue of building new buildings and training laboratories, stubbornly “knocking on the doors” of all the ministries and departments on which the solution of this issue depended. It was a long and troublesome thing. According to the figurative expression of V.E. Popov, it was necessary not only to “write a lot of papers and letters, but also to“ nurse ”and“ incubate ”in receiving ministries and departments, since Economic Council by this time was eliminated and on the spot such problems were no longer solved. The management of the institute saw two ways to solve the problem:

    1. On the territory of the institute to build a new building of the Altai Polytechnic building type. Due to the lack of funds from the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the RSFSR, this could take 8–10 years.

    2. To solve the problem in parts, seeking from the Ministry of financing the construction of the chemical, energy, engineering and engineering and economic buildings.

    The latter option seemed more realistic, and it was he who was subsequently implemented (although not in full). In 1968, the fourth building became operational, where the offices and laboratories of the ShSF and the IEF, as well as the economic research laboratory, were located. The training area has grown significantly, but, nevertheless, it did not fully solve the problems of the institute. Shells were required for chemical and mining and electromechanical faculties. The construction of the fifth - chemical building was delayed, and only in 1970 the gradual transfer of the chemical technology complex to a new building began, and the GEMF building was still in the project. Training sessions were held in three shifts, which created additional difficulties in organizing the educational process, in the work of teachers and students.

    The KuzPI sports base also remained weak: there were two sports halls that were occupied from 8 to 23 hours daily. In 1965, one of them failed - the ceiling collapsed, and there were no sports facilities in the city for rent. The premises of the ski base were wooden, dilapidated, the sports equipment was scarce, due to intensive use, it quickly fell into disrepair. The way out was a self-made athletics stadium near the third building on the right bank. There were treadmills, sports grounds, but he operated for a short time in spring and autumn and could not solve the problems. Therefore, the institute plans to constantly set the task of building a sports complex, but it was not possible to solve it in the 60s.

    The management of the institute was looking for new approaches to the issue of organizing a recreation and rehabilitation center for students, faculty and staff. Fifty kilometers from Kemerovo in the Yashkinsky district there was a sports camp for students, an amateur rest home for teachers and staff, and the Pearl pioneer camp for their children. This whole complex was called the “Written Rocks” and was located in a picturesque place, which has now become a protected area. The material base of this complex was a constant “headache” of the institute. In 1967, the institute was given 32 hectares of land for a period of ten years. For the arrangement, students and teachers were recruited on a voluntary basis. First built a summer kitchen, dining room, three semi-detached houses and seven shield houses. The students' sports camp was located in tents, and the pioneer camp was on the Kolpashevets ship. Here the stadium was built, there were two motor boats and thirty boats. Over time, marching life acquired more and more civilized forms. Were built a dining room for 150 people, 31 double shield house, 2 large houses for 40 people each.

    The recreation area grew, problems multiplied. The base "Written Rocks" functioned only two seasons in the summer, and the rest of the time was without proper supervision, destroyed, and sometimes plundered. Every spring it was necessary to spend a lot of manpower and resources to put in order the housing stock and the base territory. As a rule, those who intended to spend the summer in the “Written Rocks” were attracted for this purpose. The main means were provided by the trade union, since the cost of vouchers was symbolic, but the institute had to annually cover this item of expenses.

    The daily life of students of KuzPI was held not only in the classrooms, but also in hostels. There were six of them altogether, but three of them (No. 3, 4, 5) were uncomfortable. Students complained about the lack of laundries, lounges, equipment, places to practice and sport. Dormitories were not enough. From year to year, the same wishes were written down in the proposals section in the proposals section: the construction of student dormitories for 1500–1800 places, houses for teachers for 80–120 apartments, a children's combine for 200 places. However, for a long time they remained only a pipe dream.

    Therefore, the introduction of any object was especially joyful. In 1965, a new student canteen with 300 seats opened. Soon, its two halls became a favorite venue for celebrations and student weddings.

    The educational and industrial base gained considerable development in the 1970s. In the 1970/1971 school year, the institute already had four academic buildings. Most of the departments, classrooms and laboratories were concentrated in the first or main building. Case number 2 was occupied by the offices and laboratories of chemical specialties, here also were located the deans of the afternoon and evening chemical faculties. In case number 3, which was located on the right bank of the river Tom, were placed a military department with audiences, laboratories and classrooms. Classes with first-year students of all faculties, except engineering and economics, were held here. In building number 4 there were auditoriums, classrooms and laboratories of mine construction and engineering and economic faculties, their deans and departments.

    In the 1971/1972 school year, most of the departments continued to be located in the first, main building. Here, the majority of students studied. The Faculty of Engineering and Economics began to be located in building No. 2, and since May 1972, the military department, as building No. 3, located in the right-bank part of the city, was transferred along with the hostel located there in the Kemerovo Institute of Technology of the food industry. In September 1971, building No. 5 was commissioned, where the rooms and laboratories of the chemical engineering faculty moved. In connection with the relocation of faculties, equipment and re-equipment of laboratories and classrooms began. In addition, a new fourth dormitory for students of the institute was put into operation.

    In 1972 another educational building was commissioned, where the mining and electromechanical faculty was located. The laboratories of the departments of automation of production processes, electrification of mining, technology of mechanical engineering, automobile transport, applied mechanics were equipped here. The educational process, thus, in 1972/1973, took place in five buildings.

    The first, main building, as before, housed the administration and public organizations, departments, laboratories and auditoriums of the mining faculty, the institute's student computing room, the institute library, and the gym. In the second building there was an engineering economics department and a military department with offices. In the third building there is a mining and electromechanical faculty, preparatory courses and a preparatory department. In the fourth building - the mine construction faculty and the computing center of the institute. In the fifth building there is a Faculty of Chemical Technology and a reading room for social sciences. Expansion of the training and production base made it possible to organize the training of full-time students, starting from the 1973/1974 school year, in one shift.

    By the summer of 1973, the institute had five student dormitories for 2,259 beds. In addition, a printing house and a polyclinic were located in the hostel No. 1, a dispensary in the hostel No. 2, and research laboratories in the hostel No. 5. Two of these dormitories were located in the quarter of educational buildings and were together with these buildings a kind of campus. Here is the institute student canteen. The other two hostels were located within one kilometer from the educational buildings. Most of the nonresident students lived in a dormitory. In the 1972/1973 school year, out of 2,927 nonresident students, 2,317 students were provided with a dormitory. 19 rooms in the dormitories were occupied by teachers of the institute.

    In 1976 the military department building with a small shooting range was put into operation, the construction of a garage and a workshop was completed. A major overhaul of the hostel number 2, building number 4, the gym, was carried out construction geopoligon. In 1977, the overhaul of the hostel number 3 was carried out, the heating main was connected to it, the rural recreation area in the village of Pisanaya was expanded.

    The development of the material base and improvement of the structure of the university was a constant concern of the Academic Council and the university administration, headed from 1967 to 1977. Professor V.G. Kozhevin.

    Vladimir G. Kozhevin
    (1907–1990)
      Supervised by the Institute
      from 1967 to 1977

    Vladimir G. Kozhevin received a special education in the Siberian Polytechnic, higher - in the Tomsk Industrial Institute. CM. Kirov, who graduated in 1934. Six years after that VG Kogevin taught at the Tomsk Polytechnic, Kemerovo Mining College. During the war years he made a successful engineering career - he worked as an assistant and chief engineer of mines, deputy chief engineer of the Osinnikugol Trust, managing director of the Kiselevskugol Trust. In the post-war years, Vladimir Grigorievich was the head of the Kemerovougol combine, and then the combined Kuzbassugol combine, the first deputy chairman of the Kemerovo CNH.

    The hard work in responsible posts of Vladimir Grigorievich combined with a scientific search. Professor D.A. Strelnikov Kozhevin called "three times his student." In 1959, they are in collaboration with T.F. Gorbachev published a monograph “Development of Kuzbass coal deposits”, in which for the first time comprehensively generalized the problems of the basin development. The book was highly appreciated by prominent scientists and business owners: A.M. Terpigoreva, Ya.D. Shevyakova, N.V. Melnikova et al. In 1961, VG Kogevin under the leadership of Professor D.A. Strelnikov defended his thesis.

    In July 1967, he became rector of KuzPI. His ten-year tenure in this position is a period of rapid development of the institute. Then new buildings (5, 4 and 3), dormitories (6, 3 and 4), a student canteen and a polyclinic were built. The number of specialties has expanded, the set has grown. KuzPI became the leading technical university of Kuzbass.

    The rector did not cease to do science, as evidenced by numerous monographs, articles of more than 150 printed pages.

    Vladimir G. Kozhevin - Hero of Socialist Labor, holder of two orders of Lenin, two orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the sign "Miner's Glory" of three degrees. He led an active social activity, was elected a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and the RSFSR, the Kemerovo Council of Workers' Deputies, was a member of the Kemerovo Regional Committee of the CPSU, a delegate of the CPSU congresses.

    When V.G. Kozhevine KuzPI, firmly occupying a leading position in the Kuzbass, has become a major educational and scientific center in the Urals.

    By 1970/1971 school year, the institute consisted of 8 faculties:

    Mining (4 specialties, 9 departments, including the Department of Foreign Languages);

    Mining and electromechanical (4 specialties, 8 departments);

    Mine construction (3 specialties, 4 departments);

    Chemical technology (5 specialties, 8 departments);

    Engineering and economic (3 specialties, 3 departments);

    Evening mountain-building;

    Chemical evening technology;

    Correspondence (5 specialties).

    In addition, there were 5 general institute departments: the history of the CPSU, political economy, philosophy and scientific communism, physical education, and military.

    In 1973, the mining and electromechanical faculty was divided into two faculties: mining and electromechanical with specialties "Mining machines and complexes" and "Electrification and automation of mining works" and mechanical engineering with specialties "Engineering technology, metal-cutting machines and tools" and " Automobile transport".

    The first dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was Anatoly Semenovich Efimenko, who previously worked as head of the department of metal technology.

    Efimenko Anatoly Semenovich  (1924-1982) - Dean of the MMF. From August 1941 to June 1945. in the army in the field - ordinary motor reconnaissance, in captivity, the translator of the counterintelligence department "Smersh". He graduated from the Rostov Machine-Building Institute (1951). In 1951–1957 in engineering positions at the Kise-Levsky Coal Machine Works, then in the Kemerovo Economic Council. From March 1961 in the OIG - Associate Professor, and from 1962 to 1971. - Head of the department of metal technology and machine parts. Since 1974 - Dean of the MMF.

    In accordance with the new name of the faculty, the departments included in its structure were renamed. In particular, the Department of Analytical Chemistry was renamed into the Department of Chemical Technology of Plastics Processing (Head of the Department B. N. Trushin), Department of Organic Chemistry into the Department of Machines and Equipment for Chemical Production (Head of the Department V. N. Ivanets), etc. .

    In 1978, another faculty was formed - building - on the basis of two specialties: Industrial and Civil Engineering (SP) and Highways (SD), which were previously part of the SHSF. Five departments were assigned to the faculty. The decision to create a new division was made by the Academic Council of the Institute on January 9, 1978 and was caused by a large number of students at the mine construction faculty. As a result, the faculty was divided into two faculties: mine construction and construction. The dean of the building department was V.A. Tesla.

    The expansion of the university profile, the opening of new faculties and specialties entailed significant qualitative and quantitative changes in the teaching staff. In 1965, the staff of teachers was 368.5 units, in 1966 - 403.5; in 1967 - 425.5, in 1968 - 492 and in 1969 already 508 units. But it is not only and not so much numerical growth that is important, but the qualitative changes that have occurred in the team of teachers. In 1965, there was one doctor of science (VE Popov) in KuzPI, and in 1970 there were already seven of them, with the majority growing up within the walls of the institute.

    The title of professor had three candidates of technical sciences with a large production-technical and administrative experience: P.I. Kokorin, V.G. Kogevin, P.M. Kovachevich.

    Kovachevich Peter Markovich  (1907–1980) - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of Tomsk Polytechnic and Kemerovo Mining Institutes. Hero of Socialist Labor (1948), holder of the Orders of Lenin (1948, 1953) and the Red Banner of Labor, signs of “Miner's Glory” of three degrees. He worked at the mining enterprises of Kuzbass, Kazakhstan, Moscow basin. He graduated from the Siberian Mining Institute (Tomsk Polytechnic Institute) (1934). Since 1934, in administrative positions in the mines of Kuzbass; the chief engineer of the trust "Kaganovichugol" (Kiselevsk), the chief engineer of the combine "Kemerovo-coal", the first deputy. chief of the plant "Kuzbassugol". By the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences of June 7, 1950 P.M. Kovacevic was approved as a member of the commission for the coordination of research work on the problem of the development of thick layers in Kuzbass. In June 1956-1957 assistant (jointly) to guide the graduate design of students. In 1957, he was approved as a professor in the department of development of stratum deposits. Since 1962 - Professor of the Department of RMPI. Colleagues from the Moscow Mining Institute knew P.M. Kovacevic as an “outstanding talented engineer, skilled organizer and very serious scientist.” A convinced supporter of his involvement in the preparation of "high-quality mining engineers" was Professor D.A. Strelnikov. In 1970, the Higher Attestation Commission awarded P.M. Kovachevich academic degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences on the totality of published works. He actively worked in three dissertation councils: at the KuzPI, the Mining Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences and at the VostNII, he was a member of the Scientific Council of the USSR Ministry of Coal Industry. Member of the Kemerovo City and Regional Council of Workers' Deputies, a member of the CPSU regional committee.

    The number of associate professors - candidates of science in five years increased from 89 to 135. If in 1965 there were 40 associate professors, candidates of science and equally candidates and associate professors (25/24), then by 1970 67 teachers had the degree of candidate of sciences and the title of associate professor. , associate professors without a degree became 28, candidates of sciences without a rank of associate professor - 60.

    Mainly, these were young teachers, many of whom graduated at the time KuzPI, then graduate school, defended dissertations. In general, over five years, the percentage of teachers with degrees and titles grew from 24% in 1966 to 34% in 1970. By the end of the 60s, more often than not venerable, full-aged teachers were accepted, but young assistants, who eventually entered graduate school and defended a thesis. The level of scientific qualifications of teachers KuzPI allowed to create a coherent system of self-training of highly qualified personnel.

    More on the student's bench through the scientific circles, the CSC, the traditional student conferences were selected capable and promising in scientific and pedagogical terms, young people. After graduation, they were left in the profiling departments, where they poured into pedagogical and scientific work, were determined by the subject matter of the research, the head, passed candidate exams and entered graduate school (both in the target universities of the country and KuzPI).

    The number of graduate students at KuzPI was stable for five years - 79 people, but structurally, there were changes. If in the mid-60s correspondence postgraduate school was very popular (27 graduate students - full-time students and 52 - part-time students), then by 1970 the majority preferred to study with a separation from production activities (41 post-graduate students - full-time students and 38 - part-time students). But still, not every graduate student managed to defend his thesis in a timely manner and only a few did it ahead of time. In 1966 the dissertations of A.V. Kalinin, in 1970 - M.K. Yakunin, N.M. Denisov, led by Professor VG Kogevin.

    In 1966 a long-awaited event occurred: the head of the department of physics A.V. Sechkarev, Head of the Department of History of the CPSU V.A. Kadeikin *, Vice-Rector for Research V.P. Ants defended doctoral dissertations. This is not only their personal victory, but also a great achievement of the whole university. A little later, the doctoral dissertation was defended by B.G. Tarasov. KuzPI became a forge of personnel of the highest scientific qualification.

    Kadeikin Vasily Alexandrovich Born September 1, 1927 in the village of Novosamarsky, Bavevsky District, Siberian Region (now the Altai Region). In 1937, the Kadeikin family moved to Leninsk-Kuznetsky. Here V.A. Kadeikin finished school, then a mining technical school, after which he was promoted first to Komsomol and then to party work. After graduating from the graduate school and defending his thesis in 1955, he was sent to work at the Kemerovo Mining Institute. Then he worked for several years in the Kemerovo Regional Party Committee. Returning to the Kemerovo Mining Institute in 1960, he headed the department of history of the CPSU. The defense of his doctoral dissertation in 1966 was a major milestone not only in his scientific biography, but also in the development of historical science in Kuzbass. In 1969, V.A. Kadeykin continued his scientific and social activities in Moscow, where he lived until his death in 2005.

    All this had a positive effect on the growth of the personnel potential of the institute. This can be judged by the following figures.

    on 01.07.71 as of 01.07.75 on 07/01/80
    Entire faculty 545 571 669
    Of them:
    doctors of science 7 11 14
    candidates of science 152 234 274

    With the increase in the number of faculty members for 10 years by 23%, the number of doctors and candidates of sciences increased over the same period by more than 80%. As a result, the share of teachers with academic degrees over the decade in the total number of university teachers grew from 29% in 1971 to 44% in 1980.

    Staff development, strengthening the personnel potential of the Institute was the subject of constant attention and special care of the Academic Council. The golden fund of the university consisted of doctors of science, many of whom prepared and defended doctoral dissertations in the 1970s.

    In 1971, the head of the open mining department of N.Ya. Repin, head of the department of electrification of mining enterprises G.I. Razgildeev. In the same year, 24 people defended their dissertations. In the 1972/1973 academic year, A.N. Korshunov from the department of mining machines and complexes in the specialty "Mining". In the same year, 14 employees of the institute became candidates of science. In the 1974/1975 academic year, two more doctoral dissertations were defended: Associate Professor of the Department of Mining Machines and Complexes B.А. Katanov and Associate Professor of the Department of Resistance to Materials and Structural Mechanics V.Yu. Isaxon. In the same year 17 PhD theses were defended.

    In the 1975/1976 academic year, the doctoral dissertation was defended by L. L. Moses. Five employees of the Institute defended their dissertations. In the 1976/1977 academic year, five more Ph.D. theses were defended. All this has strengthened the leadership departments. Among the heads of departments in 1978, 11 were doctors of science, professors. The total number of departments by this time was 42. Most of them were headed by professors (doctors of science) and associate professors (candidates of science). In 1977–1980, two more doctoral dissertations were defended: N.I. Platunov and E.I. Elbert During the same years, more than two doctoral dissertations were defended. In 1979, they were defended. 11. Every year, employees of the institute went to targeted full-time and correspondence postgraduate studies, underwent advanced training at the PPK, IPK and internships in Moscow and Leningrad universities, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Sverdlovsk universities.

    Moiseev Lev Lvovich  Born February 1, 1940 in the village of Altai near Gorno-Altaisk. In 1954, he and his parents moved to Kemerovo, where after graduating from school in 1957, he entered the mining and electromechanical faculty of the Kemerovo Mining Institute. He successfully combined his studies at the institute with sports: at the age of 20 he became a master of sports of the Soviet Union in motocross. After graduating from the university course in 25 years, he defended his thesis. In 1967, he headed the department of mining mechanics, which he led until 2001 with a short break. In 36 years, he defended his doctoral thesis, which largely determined the scientific direction of the department - "Optimization of operating modes of fixed installations of enterprises." According to the results of his research, he published about 200 scientific papers; 10 people under his leadership defended their theses. In 1995, at the initiative of Lev Lvovich, a new specialty “Industrial Heat Power Engineering” was opened in KuzGTU. Lev Lvovich died in 2008.

    The transformations of the second half of the 70s are associated with the name of Mikhail Samsonovich Safokhin - the rector of KuzPI in 1977–1993.

    Mikhail Samsonovich Safohin
    (1926–1993)
      Supervised by the Institute
      from 1977 to 1993

    Mikhail Samsonovich Safohin belonged to a generation, the share of which fell most difficult military and post-war tests. He was born November 12, 1926 in the village. Knyazevo Skopinsky district of the Ryazan region in a large peasant family. After graduating from the Skopinsky College of Industrial Transport, he was sent to study at the Moscow Mining Institute, which he graduated with honors in 1954 in the specialty "Mining engineering". According to the distribution was sent to the Kemerovo Mining Institute. From now on, his life and work are closely connected with our institute and Kuzbass.

    Starting work as an assistant of the department of mining machines and mining transport, he soon became its head. In 1964 he defended his thesis, in 1965 he was awarded the title of associate professor. In the same year, he became pro-rector for academic affairs.

    The name of Mikhail Samsonovich is associated with a tremendous work to improve the educational process in connection with the transformation in 1965 of the Kemerovo Mining Institute into the Kuzbass Polytechnic.

    At the same time, the young energetic vice-rector does not leave the study of science. As a result, in 1974 he defended his doctoral thesis and became a professor.

    Three years later, in March 1977, M.S. Safokhin became the rector of the Kuzbass Polytechnic Institute, which he headed until 1993. At the same time he was elected head of the Council of Rectors of Kuzbass. At the same time, Mikhail Samsonovich succeeded in successfully combining a huge organizational work with teaching and research activities. During his work at the university, 19 books, monographs, textbooks, 240 scientific articles written by him personally and in collaboration with students were published. March 26, 1991 Safokhin was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Natural Sciences of the RSFSR, since 1985 he is a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR. Under his leadership, defended their dissertations 29 graduate students. In this case, MS Safokhin was actively engaged in inventive activity, he received 103 copyright certificates for inventions. His performance and the highest level of organization became an example to follow in the work collective of the institute. Combining exactingness with respect for personnel, MS Safokhin put a lot of effort into creating a highly qualified, efficient team of the institute, which became the source of personnel for the industrial Kuzbass.

    However, he led a large public work. He was elected to the party organs and the deputy of the regional Council of People's Deputies. His work is marked by two orders of the Red Banner of Labor, medals, signs “Miner's Glory” of three degrees, “Inventor of the USSR”. He was awarded the title "Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR."

    May 29, 1993 M.S. Safokhina was gone. But the case in which he had invested so much strength was continued by his colleagues and colleagues.

    By the beginning of the 80s, this was a well-coordinated competent team capable of solving the tasks facing the university. The closest assistants of Mikhail Samsonovich were the vice-rectors for academic work S.А. Batugin and V.V. Kuryokhin, on scientific work Yu.A. Ryzhkov, by correspondence training A.A. Poga, on the administrative work of G.I. Afonin and A.F. Golomzin.

    Having celebrated its thirty-year anniversary in 1980, KuzPI entered the 1980s, with significant human resources, a good material and technical base, and a well-established structure.

    In 1980, the structure of KuzPI included seven full-time, correspondence and evening faculties. Worked preparatory department. The faculties were headed by experienced and skillful organizers of the educational process: GF - Е.А. Beaver; SF - V.A. Tesla; L.S. Master; A.A. Zhuravel; SHSF - A.D. Trubchanin; GEMF - N.A. Rudometov; MMF - A.S. Efimenko; CTF - Yu.N. Tyurin; S.D. Evmenov; IEF - K.I. Vorobyov; V.M. Porshnev; OZO - M.K. Sequin; V.P. Orlov; Preparatory Department - T.I. Solovyov.

    At the turn of the 70–80s, KuzPI had in its structure 45 departments, which employed 668 faculty members, including 14 doctors of science, professors, 273 candidates of science, associate professor. By the end of 1980, the staff of the institute numbered 2000 people. Of the 45 departments, 10 were headed by doctors of science, professors and 32 by candidates of science, associate professors. The proportion of teachers with degrees and academic titles on October 1, 1980 was 40%. The growth of the number of departments in these years looked like this: 1980 - 45; 1985 - 46; 1987 - 47; 1989 - 49; 1991 - 51.

    In 1980, the Kuzbass Polytechnic Institute trained engineers in 19 specialties, and in the late 1980s, already in 24 specialties for the mining, construction, chemical, engineering industries and economists, as well as personnel in accounting.

    The problem of training doctors and candidates of science was put in the forefront. All divisions of the institute worked on this problem, but I especially want to note the role of the rector of KuzPI, MS Safokhina. This was his constant concern. Regularly, several times a year, MS Safokhin gathered doctoral and master’s degrees in his study room, listened carefully to their reports, was interested in his needs, and helped with difficult issues. This constant attention, of course, stimulated work on dissertations. Many applicants, who then became doctors and candidates of science, kept these meetings in mind.

    The interest of the administration in solving the problems of senior researchers, graduate students and applicants bore fruit. He was successful in the defense of 1980 - defended his doctoral thesis E.I. Elbert and 24 teachers defended their dissertations, among them - G.V. Gubareva, A.M. Belyukov, V.M. Seredyuk, S.I. Petrushin, T.A. Kuznetsova and many others.

    The years of the university in the status of a polytechnic became a period of professional growth of members of the department of foreign languages. Five PhD theses were defended: "Theoretical Foundations of Industry Benefit with Programming Elements for Teaching Reading Literature in the Specialty" (M.Ya. Beilina, 1965), "Derivative productivity in various terminological systems" (E.S. Novikova, 1973), " Creative evolution of N. Mailer "(LA Shlyamovich, 1980)," Toponymy of the Khakass-Minusinsk depression "(MA Zhevlov, 1984)," Biverbal constructions with verbs of being chat, intoxication, tour, chor in the Shor language " (NN Kurpeshko, 1989).

    By the end of 1981, the percentage of teachers with degrees and academic titles grew at the institute to 45.7%, including at the general scientific departments it was 45.1%, at the general technical level - 48.7%, at the departments of social sciences - 36.8 % As of January 1, 1983, the graduation rate was 48.1%, including 308 candidates of science, associate professors, but the number of doctors decreased. In 1984, 646 teachers, including 15 doctors of science, professors and 325 candidates and associate professors, worked at 46 departments at KuzPI staff, which accounted for 52.6% of the total number of faculty members. For four years (1981–1984), two doctoral dissertations (V. Kolmakov, I. M. Batugin) and 53 doctoral dissertations were defended. In 1985, the number of doctors of science remained the same, while the number of candidates increased to 344 and, accordingly, the degree of increase increased to 55.6%. In 1986, the number of teachers with scientific degrees and titles reached 100% in the departments of GMiK, GM, surveying, LLPS and HTTT. By faculty, it looked like this: GF - 64.1%; HEMF - 91.2%; MMF - 49.1%; IEF - 58.3%; SF - 51.5%; CTF - 49.8%; ShSF - 43%.

    In 1989, 20 doctors of science, professors and 358 candidates and senior lecturers worked at KuzPI. At the beginning of the 90s, there were 30 doctors of professors and 654 candidates, associate professors for 652 people, which accounted for 59.1% of of the total number, 57.5% of the teaching staff had work experience of more than 10 years19.

    In addition to staff lecturers, specialists from industrial enterprises of the city were involved in the educational process on a full-time basis and hourly pay. In 1991, 30 people worked like this, including 4 doctors of science, professors and 12 candidates of science, associate professors.

    Faculty of mining faculty participated in the training of engineering personnel in Africa. RG associate professors worked in Algeria. Kolomin, G.F. One-handed; in Guinea - associate professors V.F. Kolesnikov, V.N. Mikhailov, O.S. Kurzantsev; in Ethiopia - associate professor V.M. Perederin.

    A significant role in training for KuzPI was played by graduate school. In the early 1980s, nine departments prepared graduate students under the supervision of 21 people, including 19 doctors of science. In 1982, 112 teachers and employees of KuzPI studied in graduate school, of whom 66 were in the target and 46 in the graduate school of the Kuzbass Polytechnic Institute. In 1983, 53 people enrolled in graduate school at our institute, including internally - 27 and in absentia - 26. The highest percentage of dissertations defended by graduate students was the scientific leaders of professors M.S. Safohina, A.N. Korshunova *, V.G. Kogevin, B.A. Katanova et al.

    Korshunov Anatoly Nikolaevich  Born May 24, 1922 in the town of Bezhetsk, Kalinin Oblast. After graduating from high school, he entered the Moscow Mining Institute. However, he was forced to interrupt his studies due to lack of material resources (at that time paid tuition was introduced). In 1944, he again entered the Moscow Mining Institute for the specialty "Mining engineering". Having received a diploma with honors, Anatoliy Nikolayevich began work first as a design engineer, and then as a shop manager at a machine-building plant in the city of Cheremkhovo, Irkutsk Region. In 1954 he enrolled in the graduate school of the Moscow Mining Institute. In 1958 he defended his thesis and began work in the Kemerovo Mining Institute at the department of mining machines and complexes, successfully combining teaching activities with scientific research. He published 243 scientific papers, received 38 copyright certificates for inventions. In 1973, Anatoliy Nikolayevich defended his doctoral thesis, becoming, figuratively speaking, the first "home-grown" doctor of science in the department of mining machines and complexes. Under his supervision, 47 (!) PhD theses have been defended.

    In 1984, 14 people enrolled in the KuzPI graduate school, and 9 successfully completed it this year.

    1981–1985 The PhD thesis defense plan was completed. During this time, 21 people became PhD candidates at the IEF, 10 at the CTP, 8 at the GF, 8 at KF, 7 at the MF, 7 at the GEF, and 5 at the GEF and ShSF.

    In the 80s, two protection councils worked in KuzPI - D.063.70.01 and К.063.70.03. In 1986, the dean of the MMF V.A. Poletaev raised the question of opening a council for the defense of Ph.D. theses at the faculty, in the graduate school of which 20-24 people were trained.

    In 1989-1991 in KuzPI graduate students were trained in 14 specialties. 45 people studied in graduate school, including full-time. 23. There was a clear lack of graduate school, the need to increase its effectiveness. For 1986–1990 in KuzPI, 86 people graduated from a targeted postgraduate course, of whom 15 defended themselves and 15 after graduation.

    In the 80s advanced training was carried out through such forms as IPK, FPK, internships, and creative holidays.

    In 1982, 19.2% of the faculty were covered by all forms of advanced training, including 64 people in the PPC, 10 people in the IPK, and 19 people in the internship.

    In 1984, they graduated from IPK - 5, FPK - 68 people, were transferred to senior research assistants - 2, and received creative leave - 2 people. And in the subsequent 1985-1990. Indicators of advanced training for teachers and employees of KuzPI were basically the same. Teachers and employees of KuzPI underwent advanced training at the FPC and IPK universities in Moscow, Leningrad, Minsk, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don.

    Long-term internships abroad were teachers of the department of foreign language: K.A. Dudkina and A.G. Berdnichenko (Gerder Institute, Leipzig), MG Kolnenskaya and G.A. Polyanskaya (University of Michigan, USA), L.Yu. Galkina (Georgetown University, USA), N.V. Chatkina (University of Grenoble, France). EE took a short language course in the UK. Grigorieva / Melianchenko (University of Sheffield) and Ph.D. L.P. Varaksa (Oxford), and G.A. Falcon - in the GDR, A.A. Yurchenko, N.A. Sholokhov, G.M. Lavnikovich took part in the seminar of the Germanists in the GDR. Several people (L.V. Mezentseva (Lebedeva), LA Shlyamovich, OA Stavtseva, LI Posevkina, EE Grigorieva, AE Makarova) completed biennial military industrial complex at LSU. In addition, all teachers regularly every five years studied at PC courses in leading universities of the country. For nine years (since 1973), the department headed a methodical association of teachers of foreign languages of universities of the city.

    At the beginning of the 80s, the material base of KuzPI included five educational buildings with a total area of 53.4 thousand square meters. m, educational and scientific equipment to 5.5 million rubles, a library with a fund of more than 700 thousand volumes. A significant proportion of the material base of the institute was social facilities. These are six dormitories for almost 3 thousand beds, a canteen, 7 buffets for 520 beds, a dispensary for 120 beds, including a health center in the village of Pisanaya, an interuniversity clinic.

    In 1981, the construction of a new canteen for 530 beds, a household unit between 3 and 4 dormitories with a canteen for 100 beds, was underway. In 1982, they became operational. Students built a geodesic test site and continued the construction of a ski base.

    The constant attention of the university administration to the problems of the development of the material base of the institute gave its results. So, only in 1984 were the corps of the military department commissioned, the hostel number 5 for 874 places. Now KuzPI had seven hostels in which more than four thousand students lived, including 150 student families. New canteens in educational buildings opened, the old canteen was reconstructed. And in 1985, on the basis of the dining room No. 9, the Combine of Power Supply No. 3 was created and the provision of seats was 85%.

    Good organization of life and recreation of students was awarded the USSR Ministry of Higher Education Certificate of Merit and a cash prize.

    Medical care for students and a significant part of the faculty and staff was provided by the 10th Interuniversity Polyclinic, which in the mid-80s had 27 doctor's offices and the necessary equipment.

    In 1981-1984, the institute acquired equipment worth 3 million rubles. In the first half of the 80s, about 700 thousand rubles were spent on teaching and laboratory equipment annually.

    Interesting indicators of development of the material base of KuzPI for 1980-1984. If in 1980, one day full-time student of fixed assets accounted for 1.7 thousand rubles, machinery and equipment for 0.7 thousand rubles, the useful area of 5.6 square meters. m, the availability of hostel was 76.9%, then in 1984 almost all indicators increased significantly.

    In the late 80s, the total area of KuzPI buildings grew to 96.2 thousand square meters. m, including teaching and laboratory - up to 56.047 thousand square meters. The material and technical base and qualified personnel made it possible to fully perform the tasks before the university.
