New Year's book about parenting or a guide for careless parents? In fact, neither one nor the other. This is not a set of common truths, morals and rules. 1. "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens

The book is a sensation. The book is a parable. The story of Scrooge - a man who did not love anyone, hated everyone, and legends circulated about his stinginess and callousness throughout the city. He was treated appropriately. One day the spirit of Marley's late companion appeared to Scrooge. The author skillfully describes the appearance of this spirit in such a way that the blood in the veins runs cold not only in the protagonist, but also in the reader. Scrooge spent his whole life hoarding, did not help anyone, did not respond to requests. And then he completely loses his peace.

We are witnessing the complete rebirth of man. Cynicism is replaced by bitter regret and remorse. Marley asks the Higher Forces to help his friend change. They send three more spirits to help him. The appearance of each is a real test for Scrooge. However, he succeeded. It turns out how wonderful life is when you live for others! Empty and barren, it is filled with quality content.
If this had not happened, then in a year the hero would have died. So the spirit of Christmas foretold him.

The gloom and hopelessness of the plot gradually dissolve, giving way to light, love, joy.

Attention to each other, responsiveness and kindness is not an empty phrase. This must be learned. After all, caring, sincere participation changes us for the better, and, therefore, the world around us.

    4. The Legend of the Christmas Rose by Selma Lagerlef

Be sure to read the book to your children. Be sure to read the book if you are a believer. If you believe in miracles, goodness, love. This is a fairy tale about miracles. Events take place in the Geingen forest. Allegedly, on a holy winter night, a beautiful flower bloomed there - a Christmas rose. Is it true? And so Abbot John gathered in magic forest roots. And lo and behold! A rose grew out of them ...

    5. Christmas with the Losers by John Grisham

In many families, events occur when a holiday is no longer a holiday. I don't want fun and feasts, even gifts. One desire is to hide from the hustle and bustle. So the Cranks family lost their former meaning during the New Year holidays, when their only daughter left. The spouse calculated that they were spending too much money on having fun. So he invited his wife to take a cruise. It should be both more fun and cheaper.

However, things are not going as planned. An interesting idea turns into a challenge. After all, no one is allowed to break the established traditions! And the Cranks didn't buy the tree, they didn't unfasten the charities, they didn't have their party. And most importantly, they didn't put a snowman on their roof! Do you think it's so easy to disrupt the once good-neighborly cramped world? But, reader, don't worry! Everything will end well, it's a magical Christmas!

    6. "The Little Match Girl" by Hans Christian Andersen

The plot of the fairy tale is classic: an unhappy orphan wanders on the eve of Christmas through elegant, beautiful streets. But with a genius author, any hackneyed classics acquire an unusual sound. The most important thing is new year's eve Make a wish. Of course, the heroine's wish also came true. It's a magical night. It's a fairy tale ...

    7. "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" by Ernst Hoffmann

The author himself loved and knew how to do miracles. "Nutcracker" - why not a miracle? Especially when the fairy tale was written specially for the children of a friend. Hoffmann made toys with his own hands. Of course, the children were looking forward to it! Probably, he was a wizard Santa Claus for them. By the way, the writer took the names of these children for his fairy tale: Marie (that was the name of the daughter of Hoffmann himself) and Fritz. The boy later became president of the Berlin Academy of Arts.

Hoffmann wrote for children. But his works should be read by adults. We, with our clear pragmatism and prudence, have forgotten that there is a place for a miracle in life. And it does not happen because we do not believe. But the children believe it! So maybe you should learn from them?

    8. "Christmas Mystery", Yustein Gorder

A truly wonderful story. Boy Joachim chooses a calendar as his Christmas present. And then the first miracle happens - the calendar turns out to be magical! Every day he opens a new window. But there are not the usual New Year's sweets, but a sheet of paper folded several times.
This is how the boy gets to know the story of one girl - Elizabeth. Just imagine that a toy lamb from a supermarket ... runs away into the woods! The girl runs after him. Every day Joachim is looking forward to the continuation of the tale. And then the second miracle happens: he does not notice how he gets there!

And Elizabeth meets Angel on the way to the forest. Together they hurry to the Birth of Christ in Jerusalem. An amazing couple travels not only in space, but also in time. They cover more than one hundred years every day and more than one thousand kilometers. On the way, the heroes meet the Magi, shepherds, and angels.
This is a very instructive story telling about the Nativity of Christ in an interesting and accessible language.

    9. "Snow Maiden", A. Ostrovsky

Can you imagine the New Year without the Snow Maiden? And Santa Claus without her? So from folk tale about the ice girl, thanks to Alexander Nikolaevich, the beloved image of the New Year's granddaughter was born by all of us. Rimsky-Korsakov wrote a brilliant opera based on this tale in 1880.

It is known that the Russian philanthropist Mamontov staged performances in his estate. In 1882, the play "The Snow Maiden" was played on the home stage. The sets and costumes were designed by Vasnetsov himself. The great artist played in the play of Santa Claus! And in 1885, the opera "The Snow Maiden" by Rimsky-Korsakov was staged at Mamontov's private opera. Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov was also inspired by this fairy tale and painted a beautiful image of the Snow Maiden in the winter forest.

    10. The Big Book of Christmas Wonders

If you want to get acquainted with the traditions of celebrating Christmastide, with the New Year's customs of different nationalities, then read this book. She combined poems, epics, stories about Christmas. The book is richly illustrated with reproductions of paintings by the best artists of the 19th century. The book will create a feeling of a miracle - as if ancient traditions have come down to us from the depths of centuries.

    11. Christmas tree

The tree has long become for us not just a symbol of the Christmas holidays, but a symbol of the coming miracle. We are all waiting for New Year's magic. Setting up a Christmas tree in the house is a special ceremony in which the whole family takes part. This is especially a great joy for the kids. From that moment on, something invisibly changes in the house and in the soul.

There is a legend about the Christmas tree. When the Son of God was born, all the trees in the forest came to see the miracle. Herringbone was behind everyone. She tried in vain to push forward to see Jesus too, but she failed. The angels noticed this, \ and put a star from the sky on the top of the tree. All the space around it sparkled. The trees parted and gasped: what an elegant Christmas tree!
So this miracle tree became a symbol of the Nativity of Christ.

    12. Mr. Toomey's Christmas Miracle, Susan Wojciechowski

If you want to get into the spirit of Christmas, check out this book with great illustrations by Lynch. You will definitely experience the magic of this holiday for yourself.

Woodcarver Tumi lost his wife and son some time ago. Since then, he avoids communication and does not experience joy in life. But one day someone knocked on his house. The widow and her son were asked to carve holiday figures. The owner did not even suspect how it would all end ...

    13. "Adventures of New Year's Toys", "The Country of New Year's Toys", Elena Rakitina

When you decorate the Christmas tree, taking toys out of the box, you feel a special thrill. You choose a luminous glass ball and a spruce paw to hang it on. But who said that only people want to have fun in the New Year? A magical night for everyone! Do you want to know where the Plasticine Donkey spent her? And how did the cowardly puppy Tyavka become a hero? And by the way, why shouldn't there be a single speck of dust on the Silver Fairy? And most importantly, when will the same Ball be held, where dreams come true?

    Happy reading and happy holidays!

There are a lot of lists of books on winter-New Year-Christmas themes for children on the Internet. But they are all designed for reading up to 10 years that way. And what next? What to read to teenagers 12-14 years old? For the second year I have been studying lists on this topic and somehow I find little. I understand that teenagers are not easy people :))) They have all sorts of their own quirks there, they already have their own opinion there, sometimes you can't force them to read anything at all, let alone on a given topic. But you can try that? Well, suddenly :))) Suddenly they want a New Year's mood or something like that.

In general, I tried to generalize my knowledge on the topic raised above. What books have I found that could be offered to a grown child from 11-12 years old and in which there would be an atmosphere of winter, expectations of the New Year and Christmas. It is clear that Nutcrackers and Snow Queens have already been read by this age. What else do you have? Do not forget that we are a teenager (and I also have a boy, he is not interested in girlish love for the time being, he would have action, adventures, riddles).

I would suggest Pratchett first. He has an interesting book on Christmas right here.

Briefly about the content, then I took it from the reviews in Ozone:
"The children stopped believing in Santa Pig, and he disappeared. His role was played by ... (who do you think? No, not the Magic Rabbit). Death. Believe it or not, the most adequate entity throughout the book."

Yes Yes. In the magical Discworld, invented by Pratchett, there is also a winter holiday - Terror. And now he is under threat. And Death is taken to save him (Pratchett has such a character, who does not know. Very adequate and wise). Death is helped by his granddaughter (well, yes, Death has a granddaughter, but what is it? This is the whole Pratchett).
In general, a sea of positives, an unusual plot, unusual characters and, as always, a sea of wisdom in life, are guaranteed to your teenager. Unless, of course, you are not confused by such characters (I absolutely do not). And who is embarrassed, but there is no time to read it myself, and at the same time I want to know about what is there and how in the book - you can watch the film adaptation of this work, it is. And then decide whether to give it to your child or not. Personally, I'm okay in Pratchett's books for adolescence never found, but I read them a little. Moreover, in this case, from MY point of view, Pratchett is just a very excellent alternative to the Nutcrackers who have already been bored by the age of 11 and For the snow queens... Children by this time already often want something more adult.

Another Pratchett cycle. About Tiffany Bohlen. No, no, it's not about New Years or Christmas at all. But there is winter here. Oh, what a wonderful winter world here is. He's not here all the time, but when Tiffany hits him it blows cold. In general, it seems to me that this cycle is good to start reading in winter. Very atmospheric. Whether there is winter in the second book - I don’t know, I haven’t read it yet, I’ve only read the first of the cycle (unlike my son). But I am sure that your child will not stop at the first book, but will swallow the entire cycle of five books. By the way, this cycle was originally designed specifically for adolescents. And in the third book, the annotation itself is winter, so you have to take everything :))) I can't help but give the annotation of the third book (I really wanted to read it myself):

"A it is the dark morris, a mysterious dance that is danced in the night forest in late autumn to welcome winter. Only creepy foggy creatures come to see him ... yes witches. But one day, twelve-year-old Tiffany Bohlen did not want to just stand and watch. It seemed to her that there was a free place in the dance, just for her, and Tiffany began to dance. So she attracted the attention of Zimovey, a powerful ancient spirit. He is the one who fetters rivers in ice, brings snowfalls to the ground and brings a fierce cold with him. Previously, he did not care about people, but now Zimovey fell in love with a girl who dared to dance with him. For her sake, he decided to become a man himself. And I'm ready to give Tiffany a royal gift: eternal winter ... "

All in all, I think it's a good cycle for winter teen reading. It contains only 5 books.

Probably, many children by the age of 12 had already read both the Christmas Carol in prose, and the Night before Christmas, and the Unchangeable Ruble. But in principle, it seems to me that a teenager will reread these books with pleasure again (if he has not read it). At least my child loves all these three stories very much.

Both I myself and Svyatoslav, in principle, love the stories of O. Henry. And these two - the Gifts of the Magi and the Christmas tree with a surprise - also with a Christmas theme. It is most for grown-up children.

With "The Givers" it turns out to be almost the same story as with Pratchett's cycle about Tiffany Bohlen. There is no direct reference to Christmas, but the book begins in the winter and obviously on the days before Christmas. And all the way in the first part is winter. There will be an extraordinary winter forest and ice monsters. In general, it is so, very atmospheric, just winter. The very beginning is already creating such a magical pre-Christmas atmosphere. The rest of the parts will already be about another time, but then again, the child is unlikely to refuse to continue. But it will be very good for a teenager to start reading the cycle on New Year's Eve.

Well, everything is clear about the Wonderful Doctor. And here I also looked after "Holly" Dickens for her child. I myself am not familiar with the work, my son also did not read it. On the annotation, very on the topic:
Christmas Eve. In a small snow-covered hotel "Holly" a lone traveler is waiting for the bad weather. He keeps a secret and prefers to spend all days alone with his memories. Horror stories from the past are dispelled only by the touching story of the bellhop. However, an unexpected meeting with an old friend prevents the hero from making a fatal mistake.
In general, I will take "Holly", we will read it.

Collections of stories. I watched and studied many. I stopped at these three.

We already have a "New Year tree". We read it. It is good because there are many stories that are suitable for 12-14 years old. That year we read Stanyukovich and something else, I don’t remember. This year I will get it, maybe some more are honored.
But for the time being, I only think about taking the other two collections - not taking them. I am inclined to take the terrible stories, the selection there seems to be interesting. And in the other it is not bad, there is a lot of Christmas from the classics - Chekhov, Dostoevsky. In general, it should be good just for 12-14 years old.

I cannot say that I am a direct fan of The True Story of Santa Claus. On the other hand, I will not say that I do not like her. And at home she has been for many years :))) Probably, it’s time to get it. I don’t know, but it seems to me that at the age of 13 it’s the very thing to read it. All the same, it is not for children, there are already reflections about destinies, very early on, I personally would not read it with a child. But a teenager is quite suitable.

I also found it today - House of green glass. This is something new. Judging by the annotation, it is quite suitable for winter and New Year reading:

The protagonist is 12-year-old Milo Pine, the adopted son of the innkeepers in Nagspeek, a city of smugglers. The Green Glass House is housed in a huge, dilapidated manor house that looks like it was hastily molded from poorly matched houses gathered in a dozen different cities.
The hotel is usually empty at the start of the Christmas break, so Milo hopes to get some rest. But the silence of the first frosty night is broken by the persistent ringing of the bell. And one by one, five guests check into the hotel. The appearance of each of them is shrouded in some mystery, which turns out to be intertwined with the history of the "House of Green Glass". Milo is also puzzled by his accidental find - a fragment of the navigation map. And his acquaintance with Maddie, the cook's youngest daughter, encourages the young man to start a detective game, the purpose of which is to find out why all these people came and where this strange map leads. He does not yet know what a difficult task he faces, and what he will learn about the mysterious guests, about the house and about himself.
