    1992 flag

The national flag was approved by the Resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kalmykia-Halmg Tangch dated October 30, 1992. The description of the flag was enshrined in Art. 158 of the Constitution of the Kalmyk SSR - Halmg Tangch:

“The state flag of the Republic of Kalmykia

    - Halmg Tangch is a rectangular panel of three horizontal stripes: the top is azure, the middle is golden yellow and the bottom is scarlet. In the center of the middle strip of golden yellow, in a circle with a diameter equal to 1/4 of the width of the flag, there is a sign in the form of a flame of fire above two wavy lines. The sign and circumference are scarlet. The ratio of the width of the strips of azure and scarlet to the width

Stripes of golden yellow - 1/2. The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is 1/2 "

The flag is written by P.Ts. Bitkeev. The sign depicted in the center of the flag symbolized the concept of “beginning” or “man” in the Old Kalmyk script. According to E.A. Gunaev, the symbol in the form of a flame of fire to some extent resembles the traditional Mongolian symbol according to the Soyombo writing system (moon, sun, hearth (tongues of flame), which was once reflected in the State Emblem of the Mongolian People’s Republic. "Soyombo" is also depicted on the State flag, which was designed to distinguish them from other Mongolian-speaking peoples. Subsequently, the state flag of Kalmykia received the new name "Halmg Tangchin Tug" (in Kalm. "Tug" - flag).

In the upper part of the coat of arms, which is understood as consciousness, is the doorway - the symbol of the union of four Oirat tribes - these are the sources of the Kalmyk people. This ancient sign also means life in the world and harmony with all the peoples inhabiting the four cardinal directions. In the central part of the coat of arms, where the soul is meant, is the lancer of the hall.

The coat of arms of the Republic of Kalmykia - Halmg Tangich sulde is an image of "Ulan Hall" and "Hadak" in a circle of golden yellow in the frame of the national ornament "zeg" on blue background, at the base of which are the petals of a white lotus flower. In the upper part of the coat of arms is an image of the ancient symbol of Derben - Oiratov - four circles fastened together.

      Explanation:
In the upper part of the coat of arms, which is understood as consciousness, is the doorway - the symbol of the union of four Oirat tribes - these are the sources of the Kalmyk people. This ancient sign also means life in the world and harmony with all the peoples inhabiting the four cardinal directions.
In the central part of the coat of arms, where the soul is meant, is the lancer of the hall.

The historical origin of the Lancer Hall:
In 1437, the Oirat leader Gogon Taisha signed a special decree on the obligatory wearing by the Oirats of headdresses of the Lancer Hall, as a distinctive sign from other peoples of the East.
In 1750, Dondok Daishi issued a law confirming the above decree.
And finally, in 1822, at the Zenzelinsky meeting of Kalmyk Noyons, Zaisangs, Lamas, and Gelungs, the decision was made: “Everyone should have a lantern in the cap and every man should wear a braid” ...
Ulan Hall contains a symbolic burden. In Buddhists, during prayer and meditation, according to the teachings of the Buddha, a thousand-leafed white lotus opens on the back of the head. When they pray, they fold the palms of both hands and carry them over their heads. At this moment, according to Buddhist teachings, the door of consciousness opens. Then the worshipers touch the chin, mouth and chest with their hands, thereby opening the doors of speech and soul. This ritual carries in itself the purification of the mind, consciousness, speech and soul, as well as the knowledge of the truth. This ritual also implied that human consciousness was always open. Therefore, the wearing of the lancer of the hall (at the highest place-the head) was introduced, symbolizing the sacred white lotus.
In a circle surrounding the lancer of the hall and the doorway, a zeg ornament is depicted, indicating a nomadic way of life in the past and a bright path to prosperity.
The base of the coat of arms is the white lotus - a symbol of spiritual purity, rebirth and prosperity.
The emblem has blue, yellow and white colors.
Blue color means eternity, freedom and constancy. This is the favorite color of the steppe nomads. Yellow is the color of the religion of the people, it is the color of the skin, and finally, it is the personification that Kalmykia was always sunny.
Ulan Hall is crowned with a white hadak. White color means our peaceful views, friendly relations with all peoples living both in Kalmykia and beyond.
By National emblem  Kalmykia is an artist Erdneev Bata Badmaevich. The emblem was adopted as a result of the competition for the best project of the State Emblem and National flag  Republic of Kalmykia, in which participated Badendaev S.N., Montyshev V.M., Khartskhaev D.Kh., Erdneev B.B.

The flag is attached to a flagpole crowned with a red tip in the shape of a "tongue of flame" with the contour outlines on it of the ancient symbol Derben Oyrotov - four circles crossed among themselves, at the base of which is "Ulan Hall". The final version of the text on the flag and coat of arms is given in the law "On State Symbols of the Republic of Kalmykia" dated June 11, 1996.

The national flag "is a rectangular panel of golden yellow color, in the middle of which a blue circle with a white lotus flower consisting of nine petals is depicted. The top five lotus petals represent five continents of the globe, the four lower petals - four cardinal directions, symbolizing the desire of the peoples of the republic to friendship, cooperation with all peoples of the world.

The national flag of the Republic of Kalmykia - Halm Tangchin tug is attached to the pole, crowned with a red tip in the form of a "tongue of flame" with the contour outlines on it of the ancient symbol of Derben Oiratov - four circles fastened together, at the base of which is "Ulan Hall".

The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is 1: 2 ".

The white nine-petalled lotus of Kalmykia, or Halm Tangch ("Halm" is the self-name of Kalmyks, "tangch" is a country, land, the whole country or the land of Kalmyks, that is Kalmykia), is a symbol of spiritual purity, rebirth and prosperity. The choice of lotus is determined by the content of the transformation program in Kalmykia.

The number of petals says that the ancestors of the Kalmyks - nomads - grazed cattle nine months a year. The circle in which the flower is depicted means an eternal movement towards purification and prosperity.

The tip in the form of a "tongue of flame", or trikul, is the emblem of Buddhism (believing Kalmyks are Buddhist Lamaists). Four circles joined together symbolize the union of four related tribes created by the Oirat tribe (Derben - in Mongolian means four, Derben-Oirats - four-union), from which a people gradually formed, whose name is Kalmyks (Oirats - ancestors, Kalmyks - descendants). Ulan Hall - a red brush, as if fanning, symbolizes the thousand-petalled sacred white lotus.

The national emblem "is an image of" Ulan Hall "and" Hadyk "in a circle of golden yellow in the frame of the national ornament" zeg "on a blue background, at the base of which are the petals of a white lotus flower. At the top of the emblem is an image of the ancient symbol of Derben Oiratov - four circles fastened together. "

Hadyk - a white fabric in the form of a scarf - a symbol of peace, kindness, generosity. The zeg ornament testifies to the difficult nomadic way of life in the past and the bright path of prosperity chosen by the Kalmyks. About the colors of the characters. Golden yellow is the color of the religion of the people, the color of wealth, the hope that Kalmykia will always be sunny. Blue is associated with the blue of the eternal sky, so it personifies eternity, immortality, permanence, freedom. White means the peaceful views of the Kalmyks, their friendly attitude to the representatives of all peoples living both in Kalmykia and beyond.

    (Victor Saprykov, Russian Federation today)

By the decision of the Elista City Assembly of June 16, 2004 "On the coat of arms of the city of Elista of the Republic of Kalmykia", the Regulation on the coat of arms of the city was approved.

The coat of arms of the city of Elista is composed according to the rules and relevant traditions of heraldry and reflects historical, cultural, national and other local traditions. The coat of arms of the city of Elista is a symbol expressing the identity and traditions of the city. The coat of arms of the city of Elista is a monument to the history of the city’s culture.

The regulations on the coat of arms and drawings of the coat of arms of the city of Elista in versions: multicolor, monochrome and monochromatic using conditional hatching to indicate colors, are stored in the City Hall of Elista and are available for inspection to all interested persons.

The heraldic description of the coat of arms of the city of Elista reads:

"The coat of arms of the city of Elista is a heraldic shield consisting of three colored fields.

The red part of the field is a symbolic gate made in oriental style, against which the name of the city "Elista" is written. The city received its name by a beam, one slope of which was a sandy “elsn”.

A khadak descending from the gate with a vertical Kalmyk letter "Todo Bichig" represents the people themselves, their ancient history, culture, its spiritual roots.

The history of the city is continued by the right part of the coat of arms. On a green field there are three snow-white cabs with doors facing the viewer. In the Elista beam, Kalmyks arranged their summer nomadic campsite, as it was rich in springs. There was greenery, abundance and life. Kalmyk’s dwelling has always been open and hospitable, which is a condition for the peaceful well-being and happiness of their native land.

The blue field with the yellow disc of the sun completes the composition (the description is kept in the direction of the sun). Poetized in the folk epos, in oral creativity, in literature, "forever blue sky" symbolizes purity, constancy, reliability. It is, as it were, the leitmotif of the whole solution, for the sun here also absorbs the meaning of yellow - the color of the sun. It is precisely in Kalmyks that it is associated with the concept of life - generous, prosperous, happy.

Thus, the coat of arms of the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, the city of Elista embodies the history of the city and characterizes the people. "

    Flag history

The modern flag of Kalmykia is very different from the previous ones. In 1935, the autonomous region of Kalmykia was transformed into an autonomous SSR. Two years later, the official flag was adopted. The cloth was completely painted red, and in the upper corner, closer to the flagpole, there was a gold inscription: “R.S.F.S.R., Kalmytskaya A.S.S.R”, in Russian and Kalmyk.

In 1978, a blue vertical strip appeared on the flag from the side of the pole. Near her, on a red background, was an image of a sickle and a hammer. Above the sickle, a star was outlined. Below was the inscription: "Kalmyk ASSR", again in two languages.

The third version of the flag, the immediate predecessor of the modern, was created in 1992. Two years earlier, the sovereignty of the republic was proclaimed. The rectangular panel was divided into three horizontal stripes of blue, yellow and red. The upper and lower were half thinner than the middle band.

In the center of the composition was a red contour circle. Inside it was an image of a spiral sign resembling a flame of fire. In the Old Kalmyk script, it denotes the concepts of "man" and "beginning".

They bring it as a gift. Presented on a holiday, it means friendship and good wishes, presented in grief - symbolizes compassion and understanding.

The yellow circle is framed by a blue and white zeg folk ornament. At the top is an image of four circles fastened together. This is an ancient symbol of the Derben Oirats, or Kalmyk people. At the base of the coat of arms are the petals of a white lotus.

The flag of Kalmykia was approved on July 30, 1993, although in 1996 minor changes were made to the flag description - the flag remained the same.

The flag is a rectangular cloth of gold (yellow) color with a blue circle inscribed in the center, inside of which there is a white lotus.

The flag is authored by B. B. Erdniev.
