    Reading cards for children

Learning to read children is not an easy and fast process. When to start, parents decide on their own for their child, and how to do it, too. But there are techniques and manuals that help in this matter. Syllabic tables for quick reading enable the child to easily move from the stage of studying individual letters to direct reading by syllables.

Many parents and teachers who have tried classes with a child using syllabic tables are satisfied with the results. But in order to understand how useful this tool is, it is important to understand how to use it and what features of such training exist.

    What is a syllable table?

A high-speed syllabus for children is a series of vowels and rows of consonants that create syllables when crossed. On the line with the consonant letter “H”, syllables with all vowels were obtained: “on”, “but”, “well”, etc. Vowels “singing” letters are given to a child much easier than consonants. Therefore, having learned one of them, for example, the letter "H", the baby can easily read all the syllables that can be made with it.

Next, you can move on to the next consonant and substitute vowels for it. Training will be easy, because the plate is intuitive and easy to remember. For the convenience of the child, the vowels are indicated in red and the consonants in blue. After all, the color perception of the child will also be useful in the study of syllables and reading rules.

During the lesson, the child will definitely notice that in some cells there is a dash instead of a syllable. It is important to explain to him that such a combination of letters, as when crossing a column and a line, does not happen. For example, “WY” is never used; after the sizzling consonant, the vowel “I” is always put.

Elena, mother of six-year-old Vari: “I basically did not teach my daughter early reading, as many friends did. And although everyone around me told me that it would be harder later, that I need to start early, I decided to give the child the opportunity to play more and not learn. And at 5, we began to learn to read on syllabic tables. Varya learned the letters in a few weeks, then in a couple of classes on the tables she learned to pronounce whole syllables, and now she reads at first-grader level completely independently. ”

How to use the table correctly and efficiently

Many parents, deciding to try learning to read using syllabic tables, are interested in how to use this tool, and how many times a day you need to deal with a child. Training is divided into stages:

    1. Learning letters.
    2. Putting them in syllables at the intersection of rows and columns of the table.
    3. Reading syllables formed from one consonant, that is, all syllables from one line.
    4. Listing the table and cutting out individual syllables on the cards.
    5. Reading syllables randomly from different cards.
    6. Combining several syllables into simple words.

The frequency and duration of classes depends on the age of the child. Some parents prefer early learning when the child is 3 or 4 years old, but they do it more for themselves than for him. The optimal age for teaching reading is 5-6 years, when preparation for school begins. Then you can do it twice a day for 10-15 minutes in the morning and in the evening.

    Benefits and Learning Outcomes

As an outstanding pedagogical innovator and writer Vasily Sukhomlinsky once said: “Reading is one of the sources of thinking and mental development.”

Speed \u200b\u200breading tables have many benefits for teaching children. These include not only the ability to read the entire syllable, and not its individual letters, but also the ability to navigate in the table and quickly find the necessary syllables. The most difficult stage in learning to read is to overcome the barrier between learning all the letters and the ability to read them together, and not separately. Using a table will help skip this step.

From the first day of training using tables, the child will have a concept of what open syllablehow it is formed and how it is read. Regular classes will help in a short period to master the skill, and soon you can switch to reading the first syllable books with your child.

Nowadays, many different techniques, manuals for teaching reading have appeared. Parents are sometimes lost what to choose for their baby. But no matter what, in our time we can meet the good, old alphabet, according to which we studied ourselves, and our parents. Suppose your child already knows all the letters, and it's time to teach them how to read syllables. In this case, the alphabet will come to your aid, which will teach him to read in syllables.

    What is a syllable?

The thing is that the rhythmicity of speech belongs to the category of sensations, but no textbook indicates how to determine the size and boundaries of a syllable by ear. Even high school students make mistakes when wrapping words from one line to another.

If you read the definition of a syllable in textbooks, they write there - that the syllable can contain one or more sounds, and is pronounced with one push of air. And you can push the air in different ways. In school textbooks they write that it is necessary to divide the words into syllables in this way: MA-SHI-NA or PA-PA.

But nowadays at the Pedagogical University primary classes, students are taught to chant loudly, almost reaching a scream, in chorus.

Of writing  we know that each syllable must contain one vowel. But children who still do not know how to read, do not know how many vowels should be in the words, so it’s very difficult for them to divide the word into syllables.

How to teach a child to read in syllables?

The very first thing that needs to be done before teaching a child to read is to choose the right technique or manual.

To date, N.S. Zhukova. This manual helps a child to understand how to start writing letters in syllables, i.e. read syllables, moving on to whole sentences.

Primer N.S. Beetle can be bought at almost any bookstore.

We move on to the next question - how to learn vowels and consonants in ABCs?

First, you need to learn open solid, vowels with the kids: A, O, U, S, E.

Then we learn hard voiced consonants: M, L.

Another common mistake is that we learn with children not letters, but letters. For example, it is correct to say not BE but B, not SE but C.

Another very important point is that at each stage of training, it is necessary to consolidate the material passed.

For example, you can explain to the child that the first letter seems to run after the second, or draw a bridge from one letter to another.

First you need to learn simple syllables, which consist of two syllables, for example: MA, SA, LO, PO.

The main thing is that the child understands the principle of how sounds will be combined into syllables.

We go from simple to complex, after simple syllables we begin to learn complex syllables in which the vowel comes before the consonant.

Some teachers, parents teach their children to sing syllables. But there is one significant drawback in this method, the children get used to it, and they begin to sing syllables constantly, without making spaces between the words.

Therefore, it is not necessary to allow the child to sing everything, teach the baby to pause between words, and then between sentences. These pauses on initial stage  may be long, but the child will gradually learn.

But last but not least, the question that worries almost all parents is at what age to start teaching their children to read.

Experts believe that reading instruction depends on the individual abilities of the child. It is believed that at 3-4 years old it is too early to teach a child to read, only if he himself does not express a desire to learn to read.

The best age for learning to read is 5-6 years.

Different schools have different requirements, but in most schools, when a child enters first grade, he should already be able to read.

Also, one should never forget that all children learn through the game, and each child has their own development and learning speeds.
