    Occupation:

    Writer

    Years of life:

Daniel Defoe (birth name Daniel Fo; circa 1660, Cripplegate, London - April 24, 1731, Sprindfell, London) was an English writer and publicist. Known mainly as the author of "Robinson Crusoe". Defoe is considered one of the earliest proponents of the novel as a genre. He helped popularize the genre in the UK and is considered by some to be one of the founders of the English novel. Defoe is a prolific and diverse writer, having written over 500 books, pamphlets and magazines on a variety of topics (politics, economics, crime, religion, marriage, psychology, the supernatural, etc.). He was also the founder of economic journalism. In journalism, he promoted bourgeois sanity, advocated religious tolerance and freedom of speech.

In the continuation of the novel about Robinson Crusoe, which is not well known to the Russian-speaking reader, Defoe, in particular, described his adventures in Great Tartary and the states partially located on its lands - the Chinese Empire and Muscovy, as well as the life and customs of the peoples inhabiting it.

What a game of fate human life! And how strangely the secret springs that govern our drives change with the change of circumstances! Today we love what tomorrow we will hate; today we are looking for something that we will avoid tomorrow. Tomorrow we will be in awe at the thought of what we yearn for today.

There is something comforting in every position, if you look well.

Even lions are tamed by hunger.

In moments of hesitation, boldly follow the suggestion of your inner voice, if you hear it, at least, apart from this voice, nothing prompted you to do as it advises you.

What is salvation for one destroys the other.

All our grievances about what we lack come from a lack of gratitude for what we have.

In moments of doubt, when a person hesitates, when he, so to speak, stands at a crossroads, not knowing which road to take, and even when he has chosen the road and is ready to enter it, some secret voice holds him back. It would seem that everything - natural inclinations, sympathies, common sense, even a clearly perceived definite goal - calls him on this road, and yet his soul cannot shake off the inexplicable influence of an unknown source of pressure from an unknown force that does not let him go where he was determined to go. And then it always turns out that if he followed the path that he chose at first and which, according to his own consciousness, he had to choose, it would lead him to death ... In moments of hesitation, boldly follow the suggestion of an inner voice, if you hear it, at least, apart from this voice, nothing prompted you to do as he advises you.

A good counselor can bring a person back to life, he instills courage in the weak-minded and awakens in the human mind the ability to do the right thing.

The misuse of material goods is often the surest path to the greatest adversity.

What absurd decisions a person does not come to under the influence of fear! Fear takes away from us the ability to dispose of the means that the mind offers us to help.

Often, longing for one lost joy can darken all other pleasures of the world.

It's never too late to get smarter.

It is not a sin to deceive the devil.

… To be left without friends is the worst misfortune after poverty.

All our grievances about what we lack come from a lack of gratitude for what we have.

    Hunger

    Wisdom

The highest degree of human wisdom is the ability to adapt to circumstances and remain calm despite external threats.

    Misfortune

To be left without friends is the worst misfortune after poverty.

    The rescue

    Fear

What absurd decisions a person comes to under the influence of fear! Fear takes away from us the ability to dispose of the means that the mind offers us to help.

Fear is an illness that relaxes the soul, just as a physical illness relaxes the body.

The fear of danger is always more terrible than the danger that has already come, and the expectation of evil is ten thousand times worse than evil itself.

    Yearning

Often, longing for one lost joy can darken all other pleasures of the world. It's never too late to get smart.

    Comfort

There is something comforting in every position, if you look well.

    Human

Man is at least a short-sighted creature, especially when he himself undertakes to assert that he is happy, or believes that he can live by his own mind.

A person does not have enough wisdom to calm down on what has been achieved.

Such is human nature: we never see our position in its true light, until we experience an even worse situation, and we never appreciate the benefits that we have, until we are deprived of them.

It is foolish to get down to work without calculating what it will cost and whether you have enough strength to complete it.

Determining and measuring things with the mind and making a sensible judgment about them, everyone can through known time master any craft.
