For which they are sent to the disbat. Disciplinary battalions

Recently, "FACTS" published an article about how two prisoners of the guardhouse of the disciplinary military unit A-0488, stationed in the capital, took a sentry hostage, taking away his machine gun, and held him all night, until "Alpha" intervened. in the tension of the fathers-commanders. The terrorists explained to the investigation that the sergeants of the guardhouse had severely beat them, and after one of the prisoners, trying to commit suicide, cut his own veins, he was handcuffed to the door.

Did the defendants tell the truth? Could such things have happened in a part where, it would seem, discipline should be especially strong?

"Waiting for the" definition "in the company, I lost five kilograms in one day"

A young man came to the editorial office of FAKTOV, who, according to him, had been serving a sentence in the Disbat for one and a half years and was released in 1997. He asked not to be named in the publication.

In the disbat you asked the soldiers how they were doing. They talked about how they walk in formation, work, and re-educate themselves. So - all this is window dressing, for the press. Neither the rank and file in the military unit, nor the cadets in the military school will ever tell a journalist the truth! If any of them open their mouths, they will be beaten for the rest of their lives.

I will not say why I got into the disciplinary battalion - I have already served my time. Prior to that, he was a cadet at a military school. After the trial, they took me to the disciplinary battalion. It was Friday the 13th. Immediately at the checkpoint I got it in the face - so that I would not think that I was very cool. And he ended up in quarantine, where he was for a couple of weeks, with horror awaiting the day of distribution to the company. During this time, I probably lost five kilograms - from fear.

What grounds were there for such a panic fear?

After the arrival of the newcomers to the company, the thieves begin to determine who you are: "devil", "man" or "thug." These concepts came to the disbat from the "juvenile" (colony for juvenile criminals). The "thugs" are the least of all. There are many Chertuganov, but even more is needed - to work, to serve everyone else. "Definition" began after lights out. They beat me all evening and all night. There were four of us new ones. Two broke at once. My friend passed out and they didn’t beat him again. I held on to the end, and in the morning I could not get up - my whole chest was blue-violet, as if a shell had hit it, and my nose turned into a bloody mess. But he earned the title of "muzhik".

Please tell us more about this "hierarchical ladder".

Among the four companies of the disbat, only one obeys the officer's regulations. In the rest - thieves' orders. In each company there are three or four thieves who have gone through a "juvenile" or adult prison. They are kept by the "family" and have unlimited influence. "Guys" live by themselves and do not serve anyone. Sometimes money is bought for a position. Each thug has two or three "shnyrya" - those who wash and iron him, rub his boots to a shine. They are proud to be close to thieves. And then there are the lowered ones - one or two per company. They are blue. The rest are afraid to even touch them. They have a separate washbasin and a toilet cubicle. You go there - consider it yourself. I'll tell you a story. A "blue" got into the company, no one knew about it, but he did not show himself in any way. He lived like a normal person. I got out of the company, all of a sudden a "malava" (letter) to the godfather comes from freedom: “Who was in your company? This is a rooster lowered. " The whole company, including the godfather, ate soap after that.

To take the shame off yourself. The rule is stupid, in general ...

    Have you eaten a lot?

Well, bit by bit. The godfather, however, only licked.

    Kindergarten!

A thug's rosary twists, if they fall - they are considered "finished", they can no longer be lifted from the floor. Is that the last "whip" will raise to throw it away. And if someone picked it up, they would "beat off a freebie." They will hit hard in the shoulder or chest.

    In heart?

This is the way it is in the army. A guy was sitting with me in the guardhouse. He was already a “grandfather” and a “spirit” (a soldier of the first year of service. - Author) hit him so hard that his heart stopped. They gave the "grandfather" five years.

After "beating" you get to the hospital?

We had a former boxer named Tyson. He hit the soldier so that he had a ruptured spleen. Managed to be taken to the hospital. And one more "beat off a freebie" - hit in the chest, and he fell on the headboard of the bed. And he died.

"The special baton of the warrant officer tore out a piece of skin from the beaten person."

    Have there been suicides?

The guys cut their veins. One hanged himself. While they were carrying him on a stretcher to the medical unit, the corpse ... raised his hand - the muscles began to contract. Those who carried it fell unconscious.

Are there ways to get out of the disbat before the end of the term?

You wrote about an attempt to escape, when one fugitive was shot from a guard tower, two were detained on the territory of the dispatcher battalion, and one more managed to escape, you wrote. Another guy was about to run through a manhole in the dining room, got stuck in a pipe and nearly suffocated. They barely dragged him out by the legs. There is still a way out - commissioning. To do this, you need to get to the hospital, and there is already a matter of technology: you pay the doctors one hundred or three hundred dollars - and you are commissioned. But getting to the hospital is difficult. Even with enuresis.

    How are such soldiers treated?

They beat me up, of course. And if they suddenly suspect that they are mowing, hold on! Oh, they don't like that in the army. It is considered: hit, serve, gain respect.

And how do you do it?

Of course, work cannot win respect. Someone frankly sues up thieves, others pay. Basically, rebelliousness, rebellion against officers is appreciated. But the chiefs of the unit are fighting the rebels, putting them in the guardhouse. It is not easy to endure there for ten days - it is so cold in autumn and winter that the prisoner runs in circles all the time to keep warm. Only one chamber is more or less warm, where the pipe runs from the boiler room. For the upbringing of especially violent people, water is put into a concrete bag up to the knee and bleach is poured. This is called the "gas chamber". After this, anyone will agree to anything!

Are the prisoners handcuffed to the wall?

Easy! They both hang and beat. I wonder if the warrant officer (names his surname) still serves, who was in charge of the guardhouse when I was in the disbat? He had a special rubber truncheon that stretched when struck and pulled out a piece of skin. The ensign often practiced in this way. Of course, for officers, service in the disbat is a link. I saw by chance the files of two of our officers who came to us for service inconsistency. But almost all of them, in one way or another, become sadists there.

The godfather yelled at the cooks: “What are you giving me? I don't like soup when there is no water in it! "

When we arrived at the unit, lunch in the canteen was quite decent: pea soup, pasta with meat and pancakes with compote. The cooks from the convicts said that "this happens every day." It's true?

I repeat: who will tell you the truth? All day you go hungry with one thought - about food. You wake up in the morning and dream: “I'm going to breakfast, eat. What happiness! " You come back from breakfast - what did you eat, what did you listen to the radio. At work you think: "Soon lunch, maybe we'll eat." No, the same thing - liquid soup and a few spoons of porridge. Thieves live in a completely different way. There is such a thing as "fitting". For breakfast, lunch, dinner, the cooks "drive" thieves to a special, separate table, normal food: meat, dumplings, dumplings. In the evenings, cakes are baked for them. I remember how the godfather once yelled at the cooks: “What are you giving me? I don't like soup when there is no water in it. " They were so afraid of him that they put only meat and potatoes on the plate. These cooks are the most unfortunate people in the disbat, although they can sometimes throw themselves an extra bite. They know: if they did not please with something, there will be "killing" in the evening.

Yes, we arrived an hour and a half before lunch. They would not have had time to prepare so quickly ...

A disciplinary battalion is an army within an army. When the big bosses unexpectedly show up with a check, they will do everything possible to make the inspectors gasp.

"I do not regret that I went through the disbat"

If in the evening there is no officer in the company, "balls" are set up at the windows and doors - observing the ways of approaching the barracks. Lists of "globulars" are available in every company. Senior "ball" - the head of the so-called guard, which includes "chertugans" and recently arrived "men". Standing "sentries" must be so careful that it is not noticeable from the outside. A little something - on the "balls" immediately transmitted: "The officer on duty entered the zone ..." Will reach the godfather - and on the feedback: "Follow where he is going ..." "This is coming!" All quickly manage to lie down in bed. One day the "globular" barked: "Lieutenant Colonel such and such is coming to our company." And he heard. And he punished the whole company - on Sunday he drove them to drill. If you miss the "balls", they will hit. I also stood "on guard" for three months.

For disassembly, the thieves with the guilty go to the utility room, where there is a toilet and a washbasin. After lights out, you can only crawl along the aisle between the beds. Searchlights from the guard towers shine directly into the windows of the barracks. If the sentry notices that someone is moving inside, he will immediately raise the alarm.

    And the thieves crawl?

They leave before lights out. If there is no one to punish, they just wash, smoke, make tattoos for themselves with an ordinary electric razor with a needle attached to it. Of course, it hurts, then there are suppurations ... But they are thieves, they need tattoos! During the morning examination, the officer looks to see if anyone has fresh tattoos or bruises. The thieves are interested in no one bruising, otherwise the whole company will suffer, and so will they. Therefore, they hide the beaten one. When, after the determination, my chest was a continuous bruise for a week, none of the officers "saw" me.

What is the relationship between officers and thieves?

Throughout the army, officers turn a blind eye to hazing. She is comfortable for them. The commander may not appear in the company, but order will be maintained there. They put pressure on the thieves only for show. In fact, there is a truce between them. I remember that the plowman of the entire zone was locked up in the guardhouse for some offense. The zone rebelled - the officers were afraid to even enter the territory. And the godfather was released.

What course did you get there from?

From the third. In fact, cadets rarely get into the disciplinary battalion. But to be honest, I do not regret that it happened. There I realized that I was worth something. Now I have no criminal record, I found a good job. But the main thing is that I am not afraid of anything or anyone in my life.

"We can only guess what prompted the former disbat member to make dubious revelations."

After talking with the former convict of the disciplinary battalion, we considered it necessary to consult with the officer who, after serving for many years in the disciplinary battalion, retired and now has nothing to do with the Armed Forces.

About the "gas" chambers in the guardhouse - incredible nonsense. And the warrant officer (he calls the same name) did not have a rubber truncheon. Although he is a tough person, it is true. There were riots, even an officer was taken hostage. But then we managed to suppress the emergency on our own. There were also shoots. The last in my memory, when the officer on duty himself, having drunk vodka with four convicts at night, took them out of the gate. He was then sentenced to four years. We fought fiercely against such a phenomenon as the "lowered" one - we stirred the bowls on the tables, and cut off the water in the washbasins, except for one, and blindfolded everyone into the toilet so that they would not see who went to which booth. "Determinations" happened, although the Transcaucasians (now they are no longer in our army) were able to come to each other's rescue in such cases, and the Slavic brothers thrashed each other with joy. But there could not be such a thing that at the morning check the officer did not notice bruises.

Major Oleksandr Naumenko, the press secretary of the Commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, commented on the story of the former member of the military and the press secretary:

Not a single journalist has yet been denied a visit to the disciplinary unit. A sane person should understand: if the leadership of the Ministry of Defense had the slightest doubts about the order in this part, the journalist would not have set foot there. Yes, there are incidents, but they are immediately suppressed by the convicts themselves or the sergeants, and the perpetrators are punished in accordance with the charter. About dumplings and dumplings for godfathers - fairy tales. And "horror films" with corpses coming to life and sadistic officers are not serious. I have been serving for 18 years and have not heard anything like it - although, fortunately, I did not sit in the disbat. One can only guess what prompted the former disbat member to make dubious revelations. But throwing a stone at a structure that helped you to reform and start a new life is dishonorable at least.

The commander of the disciplinary unit, Colonel Andrei Shander, put an end to this story:

What this guy talked about may have happened once, but not with me. And I have been serving here for three years. The country is changing for the better, and so is our part.

Disciplinary battalions (disbats, or as they are also called conscripts, "diesels") are specialized military units to which they send privates who have committed grave offenses while serving in the Armed Forces. Offenses can be very different, but they are mainly criminal offenses. In addition, disciplinary battalions are intended for cadets of military schools or institutes with a military direction to stay in them until the time they have not had time to be awarded the rank of private in the Russian army.

    From the history of disbats

In accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union, ordinary military personnel, as well as junior commanding personnel, were sent to individual disciplinary battalions. The court of the military tribunal sentenced them to imprisonment for terms ranging from six months to two years, most often for unauthorized absence. Subsequently, the practice was to replace imprisonment with terms of up to two years with the assignment of those servicemen who committed ordinary crimes with insignificant public danger to separate disciplinary battalions. As soon as the Great Patriotic War began, most of the individual disciplinary battalions (except for those stationed in the eastern regions of the Soviet Union) were disbanded. The servicemen who served their sentences were sent to the front line and enrolled in ordinary military or penal units - this depended on the severity of the crimes committed.

At the end of the summer of 1942, in accordance with Order No. 227 (popularly referred to as "Not a Step Back"), it was decided to create front penal battalions for command personnel, as well as army penal companies for Red Army sergeants and petty officers.

According to the combat schedule of penal units and units of the Red Army in 1942-1945, there were more than 50 penal battalions and more than 1000 penal companies. In the post-war period, most of these divisions and units were disbanded or transformed. This is how the first disciplinary battalions were created, which under this name were able to survive after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the armed forces of the CIS countries. Such units were retained by the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, as well as some other states.

Disciplinary battalions are present in all districts and in the Naval Forces. Servicemen in such subdivisions are divided into "permanent" personnel (who are in active military service by conscription or by contract, occupying command positions, ranging from squad commander to battalion commander); as well as a “variable” composition, which is exactly what the convicts are. For servicemen holding officer positions, military ranks can be assigned one level higher than that provided for in similar combined-arms units and units. So, a captain can be a platoon commander, a major can be a company commander, and a soldier with the military rank of colonel is appointed as a battalion (disbat) commander. Servicemen sent to disciplinary battalions, according to the decision of the military tribunal, are deprived of their military ranks, which can be restored after the end of the sentence (or in connection with release on parole) in cases where the convicts were not deprived of them during the sentencing process.

    Reasons for sending to disbat

Nowadays, some conscripts commit crimes for which they have to answer anyway. They are sent to the disciplinary battalion, while their service life is not lost, with the exception of some exceptions that are provided for and are in the power of the commander of the military district. Thus, at the end of the term of punishment, servicemen are sent for further service in their units and units in order to serve the remaining time.

There is only one reason why servicemen end up in disciplinary battalions to serve their sentences: a criminal offense has been committed, and a military court has issued an appropriate verdict.

If a soldier has fully served his sentence and was released to end his service, documentary evidence that he has committed criminal offenses is not provided.

The sentences that will decide the further fate of offenders can only be passed by military courts. The disciplinary battalions may include servicemen whose offenses are not considered serious and do not entail punishment for a period exceeding two years. The most common crimes committed by military personnel are considered "AWOL" or the so-called "hazing".

Dysbat differs from prison in that convicts are held in it not in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, but in accordance with general military regulations.

The differences between disciplinary battalions and conventional military units are manifested in the following:

    • Unquestioning obedience to general military regulations;
    • Extremely tough day planning;
    • No layoffs.

The servicemen who find themselves in the disbats are mainly engaged in performing household tasks.

    Features of the penalty battalion

The disciplinary battalion contains up to 350 soldiers. The regime of their detention and punishment is described in special documentation since the times of the Soviet Union, supplemented in the Russian Federation since June 1997, as well as in the order of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation dated July 29 of the same year.

At the end of one third of the term of punishment, if the soldiers distinguished themselves by exemplary behavior, some of them may be offered to be redirected to a detachment to be corrected. In addition, they may receive the opportunity to serve in a daily order or perform the duties of workers.

The terms of stay in the disbat are mostly no more than 24 months, mainly due to theft and hazing. In most cases, the soldier is sent to the disciplinary battalion for 5 to 17 months.

When a replenishment arrives at the Disbat, it is necessarily quarantined. Further, these soldiers are assigned 30 days of intensive training. After passing through the process, they are distributed among the companies.

Disciplinary battalions have strict adherence to a daily routine that has many restrictions. For example, meetings with convicts are strictly regulated and are held according to a schedule. They are short-term, no more than two or three hours, and only in the presence of guards.

Any transmission from family or friends, with a few exceptions, is prohibited. In addition, coffee, tea, and even more so, alcohol are prohibited. Prohibitions also apply to stationery. Convicts are entitled to one pen with two rods and nine envelopes.

In the disbat, convicts are prohibited from communicating with each other and moving freely. Servicemen who have committed an offense with accomplices are assigned to different units. At the same time, they may not even see each other all the time they are serving their sentence. Violation of these rules entails punishment with serving in a guardhouse.

Before arriving at the disciplinary battalions, the servicemen are held in pre-trial detention centers. As a result, young people borrow the demeanor of experienced prisoners with many "walkers". Such an experience often leads to disastrous changes in the unformed psyche of a soldier.

It is clear that in such places there are frequent attempts to escape, there were even riots in the battalions. But this did not lead to anything good, but only ensured an increase in the term of serving. In cases where convicted soldiers were a model of exemplary behavior, they received the privilege of deducting the time spent in the disbat from their service life.

    Completion of serving a sentence

Not so long ago, servicemen who had served their sentences were provided with money and sent back to the unit to complete their military service. It often happened that they committed crimes along the way to the unit, so the command decided to provide them with escort. But due to the fact that it is not always possible to find the escorts quickly, the dispatch is often delayed.

If you have any questions - leave them in the comments below the article. We or our visitors will be happy to answer them.

28th separate disciplinary battalion in Mulino- one of the two remaining disbats in Russia. The second is near Chita. But even in those days, when there were more disbats in the country, Mulinskiy was considered one of the most prosperous, if in general the words “prosperity” and “disbat” can be put side by side. The few hours I spent inside this respectable establishment, I think, were extremely rewarding. A source of knowledge of life of rare power.

The disciplinary battalion is not a prison, but a military unit. There are two types of personnel serving in military unit 12801 - permanent and variable. Military personnel of variable composition are those who are located within the protected perimeter. They get inside for different times, from three months to two years. At the moment, the unit has 170 "guests" out of 800 possible.

Knowledgeable people explained that it is not an easy task to call into a disciplinary battalion. In a sense, there are few "accidentally stumbled", there are more of those who have managed by their labors to acquire a rather significant personal "glory". The army is not a chamber of weights and measures and not a right-flank scout detachment, it is a huge organization, inside which a lot of the strangest violations and deviations constantly occur. And you have to strain a little to be personally noticed against the general background. Some did not spare their efforts.

There are many in the disbat who allowed themselves the so-called. hazing. Otherwise, this kind of relationship is called "bullying" or "godkovshchina". One of the most common types of bullying is beating of colleagues. In addition to the "executors", the percentage of "Sochi residents" is also high ( SOCH- unauthorized abandonment of the part) or, as they are also called - "skiers". Generally speaking, there are not so many articles under which soldiers of variable composition are convicted.

For example, article 335 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Violation of the statutory rules of relations between servicemen in the absence of subordination relations between them. Violation of the statutory rules of relations between servicemen in the absence of subordination relations between them, associated with humiliation of honor and dignity or humiliation of the victim or associated with violence, is punishable by detention in a disciplinary military unit for a term of up to two years or imprisonment for a term of up to three years. And subparagraphs to the article.

Or Article 337. Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service... Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or a place of service, as well as failure to appear on time without good reason for service upon dismissal from a unit, upon appointment, transfer, from a business trip, vacation or a medical institution lasting more than two days, but not more than ten days, committed by a serviceman undergoing military conscription service - shall be punishable by arrest for a term of up to six months or by keeping in a disciplinary military unit for a term of up to one year. And again, a bunch of subparagraphs.

There are former thieves, brawlers, robbers, unprincipled hooligans and just amazing caliber fools in the disbat (for those interested - almost an hour movie with real stories). But there are no rapists, murderers and other criminals. Institutions of a different kind are intended for them.

Here, by the way, a very big question arises - where, in fact, is better: in a disbat or in a prison? Personally, I don’t know the correct answer, but I suspect that disbat is more useful for most of those who stopped by than prison. But these are my fantasies, of course, I don’t know how it really is. But I know that there are no records of a criminal record in the passport of a serviceman who spent time in the disbat. The military commissar, of course, will not find it difficult to understand what lies behind the lines about the stay in military unit 12801, but for the rest, for those who are not involved, the person's reputation is untainted. This, there is an opinion, in a number of circumstances can be dear for a young man.

"Nothing makes a warrior's life easier than discipline ..."

In companies - only privates. Past merits, titles and distinctions are not counted. The branch and specialization also do not play a role. A sailor, a motorized rifleman, a border guard or a "Vovan" - all are equally warmly welcomed into the bosom of the disciplinary battalion. They cut their heads off and change into new uniforms. The times when the Red Army uniform of the 1943 model was worn in the disbat are over. The pilot with stars, wide trousers and gymnasts with a stand-up collar are no longer in the warehouses.

The servicemen are dressed in the usual "camouflage". On top of the form in white paint, through a stencil, the numbers of the mouth and the inscription CONVOY are applied across the entire back. This is not to confuse the constant and variable compositions with each other. Another visible difference between the compositions is overcoats instead of pea coats. Although, as you can see in the pictures, there are jackets too. The shoes are pretty uniform - boots. In frosts - felt boots. By the way, the boots of the condemned soldiers encountered in the unit shone downright. The fighters' buckles, on the other hand, are faded, field buckles. Some are painted green for some reason.
Inside the protected perimeter there are bars on the windows, buffer gates made of metal mesh and other restrictions. The sleeping quarters in the barracks are separated by a lockable lattice metal door. If at night the fighter has an urge to go to the toilet, you need to check in a special list and proceed to the place of departure of natural needs strictly in splendid isolation. Already together, for example, at night it is impossible to rush to the toilet.

While we were photographing the orderly, the squad sleeping in the barracks received the command "Get up!" The resting people instantly flew over the bunks and in a clear short formation walked into the washing room.

There is no national question in part, all sorts of "fellowship" and other groupings are not encouraged. But the so-called. “Caucasians” are present. Approximately one in four out of 170 current “convicts” are from the Caucasus. Among them there are citizens who mistakenly consider themselves stubborn and unyielding citizens. If a fiery fighter for his men's rights who has come to the disbat sees the list of offered pleasures not complete enough - there is a healing guardhouse. The stay there is up to 30 days. A court decision is not required, the will of the commander is enough.

If even thirty days on the “lip” seemed like a joke, the procedure can be repeated. Until now, they say, it helped everyone. At the exit, the craving for work on oneself and creative physical labor in the name of society among the convicted and fined warrior sharply increases. But the "diet food" in the form of bread and water in the guardhouse was canceled. They feed the local inmates and just the fighters of the disbat in the same way.

Outside the "variable" warriors are guarded by other warriors - from the permanent composition. In addition to the shooters, ferocious service dogs and special equipment are on guard. The object is secure, the sentries move in "armor", helmets and with bayonets attached and, in which case, have the right to open fire to kill. They know how to shoot, the command of the unit conducts combat firing almost every Friday, since the polygon in Mulino is gigantic, there is enough space for both the guard shooter and the self-propelled guns.

"My friend and I work together on a diesel engine ..."

The labor front for servicemen of variable composition is all around. Starting from the barracks, shining with almost sterile cleanliness, absolutely square snowdrifts around the parade ground, and ending with the painstaking production of large-scale models of the part for the local museum.

After the "excursion" around the part, the audience was given the opportunity to listen to short stories of four fighters of the disbat. The most harmless of them is "self-propelled gun". He ran away from the unit home, ran for three days, now he will spend nine months behind the fence in Mulino. Next to him is a guy with a Georgian surname and restless eyes. He beat up the officer who was filming him with a video camera, and broke this video camera. Why? What for? Unclear. 10 months to think it over.

Best of all was the former sergeant, who had served for 11 months, became embarrassed and on this basis expressed himself in grievous bodily harm. He arrived in Mulino for 2 years. He looked at everyone as an eagle, apparently a tough nut to crack. The eyes of the others were dark and scary. Young boys aroused sympathy, which is already there. Among them were amazing characters... Now all together are waiting for the most exciting activities to correct themselves.

The officers accompanying us clearly explained: trimming and tirelessly squaring the snowdrifts, constant walking in formation, the difficult casting of concrete blocks in the industrial zone and the many months of cramming the same, hundred times already boring regulations - the classes, of course, are stupid. Everyone understands this, especially civilians. Sensible activities are extortion, theft, escapes, beatings, hijacking of vehicles, unauthorized absences from mother and arrivals on regular vacations with exhaustion of oneself by drunkenness for many days in half with indiscriminate robbery of stupid citizens. It’s quite another matter!
Craving for such hobbies in dysbat is relieved with the help of occupational therapy. While we were standing on the parade ground, several groups of fighters with crowbars, shovels and brooms paraded in different directions, briskly striking a step on the frozen asphalt. Disbat fighters either march on the parade ground (most often in the ranks, but sometimes they do it individually) or run. Combat training and physical education are closely intertwined and fill almost all the leisure of a soldier. And in general, the impression was that a soldier of variable composition in a disbat seeks either to stand still or immediately run at a run.
In the so-called. "Free time" members of the disciplinary battalion can convert to faith. On the territory of the disbat, a small, very neat Orthodox church was erected by the hands of convicts. There is a prayer room for Muslims. In rare moments of leisure, believing soldiers have the opportunity to reflect on their immortal souls. The places of worship in the military unit are not empty.
Do they flee from the disbat? They are running. But rarely and unsuccessfully. One of the cases of escape was recorded in 2008. The escape ended sadly: after warning shots into the air, the guards opened aimed fire at the fugitive, shot him both legs, and the guard dogs also bit the wounded man. But here it is not worth looking for the guilty, all the participants in the events knew for certain what they were doing and what should be expected. Mulino is not Hollywood at all, many kilometers of heated ventilation manholes and baskets of laundry to ensure a comfortable escape cannot be found.
There were also especially resourceful fighters in the history of the disbat: one decided to run away through the sheets through the window directly from the hotel where he was with his parents, and the other bravely ate nails and other metal objects. I really wanted to rest in the hospital. The nails were removed from the entertainer and transferred to the museum. There are also other items confiscated from (from) convicts - syringes, homemade playing cards, primitive sharpeners, knives and other useful little things.
None, I will emphasize once more to the red ones, ANY horrors in the location of the unit could not be discerned, except for those that were demonstrated at every step: cleanliness, monotony, full employment. No kidding - 8 hours of drill and physical training, 8 hours of studying the regulations, 8 hours of sleep, movement strictly within the perimeter by jogging or marching, checking, building, strict adherence to the daily routine, not everyone can withstand the daily drill. Regulations, for example, are studied to the point of complete amazement and falling into a military trance, only on this basis can the mind be moved! There is no doubt about it - a tough place. You can see everything at once from the faces of the military personnel of variable composition. It’s not worth it, they say, to get here, but it’s only a little late in the day.

I don’t know if the skills and abilities acquired in the disciplinary battalion will be useful to the soldiers in later life, but from a conversation with a regular soldier it became clear: knowledge of the regulations makes life easier on either side of the barbed wire. It looks like the soldier knows what he's talking about.

Once again, at the invitation of the press club of the Ministry of Defense, which regularly organizes press tours for bloggers, I went to study military life from the inside. This time the unit was not quite usual - 28 separate DISCIPLINARY BATTALION in Mulino.

Dad, who served in the army in the 80s, said that soldiers were always afraid of disbat like plague. There was an opinion: a zone is better than a disbat. So I went to the unit in advance, full of sympathy and compassion for the guys who were in inhuman conditions. Now I can tell everyone frankly: there are no "inhuman" conditions, no one is torturing anyone. Discipline, a strict daily routine, work and an almost complete lack of free time - that's, in fact, all that distinguishes a disbat from an ordinary military unit.

And about the comparison with the zone: only 5% of the children who served their sentences in the disbat subsequently commit crimes. I think we all guess that the percentage of those who have been released from prison and have committed a crime again is very high.

Why do they get into the disbat?

First of all, I was interested in the fate of people who ended up in the disciplinary battalion. Who, why, for how long was sentenced, admits guilt or not, etc. Thanks to the unit's superiors for permission to ask questions and talk with any of the soldiers, including newcomers.

This is Yegor, he is 21 years old. He served in Tver in the air force. On the 7th month of service, he quarreled with a guy from the new conscription, hit him.
I ask: why did you do this?
"I wanted to show that I am better. Now, of course, I understand that I was wrong, but nothing can be fixed."
For a bruise to a colleague, Yegor will serve in the disbat for 8 months. I don’t know, sincerely or not, but he says that the conditions are normal, not much different from the army, "only we are being watched seriously."
"Here I became calmer. I realized that you can't hurt. And even more so it's not worth losing 8 months of freedom. When I return home, I dream of going to university, studying to be a psychologist."

Sergei has a different story. He just arrived at the unit and was sentenced to 10 months. He probably does not admit his guilt, and he certainly did not expect that he would be punished for disobeying orders. But in vain ...

Extract from the verdict (photo below):

"At about 11 pm on January 4, 2011, Private Grigoriev, being an orderly for a unit ... in the barracks without good reason and acting deliberately, evading a number of duties of military service and wanting to create easier conditions for himself for its passage, ... openly and demonstratively refused to comply with the verbal order of the officer on duty in this military unit to clean up the premises of the barracks assigned to the orderly for the company ... "

Well, there are many more stories that could be told, but they are all similar: non-observance of orders, unauthorized abandonment of a unit, did not return from dismissal, beat a colleague ... They are really sorry, but then you understand: they are in the dispatch battalion for the cause, and he is right a unit commander who does not cover hazing among soldiers.

The number of those serving sentences in the disbat is not growing: now there are 200 people there (for comparison, in 2004 there were more than 700). It pleases =)

What are the soldiers doing in the disbat?

Disbat is, first of all, a discipline. The daily routine is as follows:

    6.30 - rise
6.40 - control formation on the parade ground
    50 minutes charging
Then morning toilet, making the bed
    8.20 - breakfast
9.00 - formation, raising the flag
9.10 - 13.50 - training sessions for people in quarantine (those who are here no more than 2 weeks)
The rest at this time are engaged in socially useful labor, work in a reinforced concrete workshop (photos will be below)
14.00 - lunch. Then personal time.
    16.00 - control line
until 17.50 - classes and socially useful work
18.00 - 18.50 - those who are in quarantine undergo a daily medical examination for bruises and traces of beatings (according to the command of the unit, this is nonsense in disbat, but these are the rules)
    19.20-19.50 - dinner
    Then personal time
21.50 - formation and evening walk (20 minutes)

Work in a reinforced concrete workshop. The proceeds from the products sold are credited to the part account. The work is VERY difficult, but the education of fighters is possible only through work, and nothing else. You have to work.

    And this is lunch:

The food is good. Soup, buckwheat with chicken, vegetable salad, fruit drink. And about. the commander of the unit gave his word that this is not window dressing and that the guys have such food every day.

"Let's go see our poodles and lapdogs," they said to us, and we went. Cute dogs))

I had to stand to the side, because well, I was very confused by this huge dog, shaking the grate and heartbreakingly howling, and especially confused by the soldier, who was holding the loose lock on the door of the enclosure with his hand. Then we were told that 3 years ago the convict tried to escape. It was the dogs that detained him. 16 bites + crossfire on the legs from the guards. Nobody tried to escape anymore.

    Demonstration performances

    The results are as follows

I did not have time to ask a lot, the time was very limited, for example, how to serve in a part of a security company (these are ordinary conscripts).

For those who came here not by chance, but for the cause, it is hard not so much physically as morally. Barbed wire, 2 security systems, dogs guard the area at night. Every two hours - building and checking the composition. The terms are rather long - from 3 months to 2 years. At the end of the term, the guy goes to serve in the army, only to another part. Meetings with relatives are allowed (4 times a year), but only with the closest ones - parents, brothers, sisters and wives. 1 parcel per month is also allowed, but the list of items is strictly limited.

But there would be no such units (and we now have two disbats - in Mulino and in Chita), many would go to serve time in jail.

Conclusion: if you serve, take the army seriously. Respect the rules and co-workers. Although I did not see any horrors in the disbat, I do not recommend going there.

A disbat is a disciplinary battalion, that is, a special-purpose military unit, which includes servicemen who have committed serious disciplinary violations regarding military service.

A separate disciplinary battalion is a special-purpose formation in the armed forces of the Russian Federation. This is a separate military unit where servicemen who have been sentenced for committing criminal offenses during their military service are serving their sentences. Also, cadets of military schools and higher educational institutions are included in the disciplinary battalions until they are awarded the first officer rank.

For what actions are sent to the disbat

Disbats are formed for the purpose of serving sentences by military personnel in accordance with the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The period of service by a perpetrator in a disciplinary unit is not included in the cumulative period of military service, with the exception of only individual cases (by order of the commander of the military forces of a district or region). That is, the guilty soldier who has served the entire period of punishment for the committed act in the disciplinary battalion is then sent to end the term of service for the period that remained until the moment of his sentencing.

Soldiers and sergeants are sent to some disbats today to serve a criminal sentence:

    • committed criminal offenses during military service;
    • sentenced by a military court to such punishment.

Note that after serving the full term in the disbat, servicemen who have fully served their due term of service under the law do not have a documentary record.

The perpetrators are sent to such a battalion exclusively by decision of a military court. Persons liable for military service are sent to these institutions of a correctional nature who have committed criminal acts that are not classified as serious, but which, in accordance with the norms of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, are punishable by imprisonment for up to 2 years. In most cases, the military ends up in a disciplinary battalion for such misconduct as going AWOL and the use of bullying against newly arrived colleagues.

In disciplinary battalions, the norms of the general military charter are applied, and not the Criminal Procedure Code. In addition to serving a sentence in a disbat, a released soldier is obliged to serve the prescribed term in a regular army unit. Only after that he gets his documents in his hands without a mark on the presence of a criminal record. The key differences between the corrective-type unit and the standard military unit are:

    • undeniable adherence to the rules of the charter;
    • rigid and clearly established daily routine;
    • complete absence of leave.

The awarded compulsory work in the disbat, as a rule, is an economic activity.

    Features of the organization

In most cases, the total number of disbat is approximately 300 convicts. The procedure and conditions for the stay of convicted servicemen in a special battalion are regulated by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of June 4, 1997 No. 669 and Order of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation No. 302 of July 29, 1997.

In accordance with these regulations, the time of serving a sentence in the disbat is not included in the general term of military service. However, in order to achieve its inclusion, it is necessary to send a petition to the command of the military unit to the name of the commander-in-chief of the military forces of a certain region or district, in whose sphere of control the disciplinary battalion remains. In this document, it is necessary to indicate the reason and the request for the inclusion of the period of stay in the disbat in the general period of service.

At the same time, while serving a sentence in a special battalion, convicts retain the status of military personnel and wear the shoulder straps of privates. After the convicted person has served 1/3 of the sentence, in the event of his excellent behavior, he can be transferred to a detachment of correctives, he can also be allowed to serve in a detachment or to perform work outside the military unit (under the supervision of a convoy or without such ).

They are sent to the disbats for various criminal acts against the service: for theft, hazing, and so on. In accordance with the norms of the current legislation, the maximum term for serving a sentence in a disbat is 2 years. In most cases, depending on the severity of the crime, the military court will award a term of 6 to 18 months.

New convicts who have arrived at the disbat must go through quarantine upon arrival. Then they go through a month of intensive drill, and only after passing these stages, the convicts are distributed among the companies.

The regime of serving the sentence in the disbat

In addition to daily rigorous drill training, strict adherence to the charter, there are also many restrictions and prohibitions in special battalions. For example, meetings with relatives and loved ones are carried out according to the established schedule, while such visits are designed for only a few hours. All meetings with relatives take place under the supervision of a convoy or controllers.

Transfers from family members are generally not allowed. It is strictly forbidden to bring tea or coffee, as well as alcoholic drinks to the zone. Prohibitions also apply to office supplies. So, in most disbats, convicts are allowed to have one ballpoint pen and two pens, two notebooks and no more than ten envelopes.

From the group of reforming convicts who are distinguished by good behavior, they can be sent on parole.

The disciplinary battalion is not a zone or prison in the direct sense, but it is characterized by the presence of most of the attributes of bondage and imprisonment. Some convicts make attempts to escape, but such attempts in most cases fail. In the event of crossing the border of the zone or the restricted area, such fugitives are caught, after which the term of serving the sentence is added for such misconduct.

Serving a term in a disbat is not recorded in a personal file as a criminal record, therefore it is not taken into account during the period of military service. Therefore, most of the convicts return to their units for the end of the period of service in the army. In some cases, for excellent behavior, the period of imprisonment in the disbat is counted in the service life. Ordinary convicts from a variable composition go on dismissal to the reserve from the disbat, they receive the nickname "bell ringers".

The end of the term of punishment in the disbat

Earlier, after the end of the term of serving the sentence, the soldiers received money and, on their own, traveled to their units to end their army service. However, often during the move, they carried out new criminal acts due to various circumstances. Therefore, in recent years, the released convicts from the special battalion are sent to the unit exclusively under the supervision of a supervising officer or warrant officer. Often, such a wait is delayed due to the lack of responsible employees for supervision or money for business trips. Also, military units can be located in the Far North, from where it takes too long to get, as a result of which convicts often sit out their sentences.

In the special battalion, the movement of convicts and communication between them is limited. For example, it is strictly forbidden to communicate with convicts from other units. On the basis of this principle, convicts who have received a punishment for committing one crime and accomplices are assigned to different divisions. For the entire period of serving their sentence, they have no right to exchange even a few words. For violation of this rule, they face disciplinary action; punishment in the form of a guardhouse located on the territory of the special battalion is also often applied.

In most cases, before entering the disbat, convicts serve a certain time in a pre-trial detention center. Therefore, they often adopt not only the manner of speaking, but also the criminal experience from the inmates in the isolation ward. After serving their sentence in the disbat, the convicts are sent to serve their term in the army.
