    Dees battalion. Disbat in the Soviet Army: this is what it was

    Recently, "FACTS" published an article about how two prisoners of the guardhouse of the disciplinary military unit A-0488, stationed in the capital, took a sentry hostage, taking away his machine gun, and held him all night, until "Alpha" intervened. in the tension of the fathers-commanders. The terrorists explained to the investigation that the sergeants of the guardhouse had severely beat them, and after one of the prisoners, trying to commit suicide, cut his own veins, he was handcuffed to the door.

    Did the defendants tell the truth? Could such things have happened in a part where, it would seem, discipline should be especially strong?

    "Waiting for the" definition "in the company, I lost five kilograms in one day"

    A young man came to the editorial office of FAKTOV, who, according to him, had been serving a sentence in the Disbat for one and a half years and was released in 1997. He asked not to be named in the publication.

    In the disbat you asked the soldiers how they were doing. They talked about how they walk in formation, work, and re-educate themselves. So - all this is window dressing, for the press. Neither the rank and file in the military unit, nor the cadets in the military school will ever tell a journalist the truth! If any of them open their mouths, they will be beaten for the rest of their lives.

    I will not say why I got into the disciplinary battalion - I have already served my time. Prior to that, he was a cadet at a military school. After the trial, they took me to the disciplinary battalion. It was Friday the 13th. Immediately at the checkpoint I got it in the face - so that I would not think that I was very cool. And he ended up in quarantine, where he was for a couple of weeks, with horror awaiting the day of distribution to the company. During this time, I probably lost five kilograms - from fear.

    What grounds were there for such a panic fear?

    After the arrival of the newcomers to the company, the thieves begin to determine who you are: "devil", "man" or "thug." These concepts came to the disbat from the "juvenile" (colony for juvenile criminals). The "thugs" are the least of all. There are many Chertuganov, but even more is needed - to work, to serve everyone else. "Definition" began after lights out. They beat me all evening and all night. There were four of us new ones. Two broke at once. My friend passed out and they didn’t beat him again. I held on to the end, and in the morning I could not get up - my whole chest was blue-violet, as if a shell had hit it, and my nose turned into a bloody mess. But he earned the title of "muzhik".

    Please tell us more about this "hierarchical ladder".

    Among the four companies of the disbat, only one obeys the officer's regulations. In the rest - thieves' orders. In each company there are three or four thieves who have gone through a "juvenile" or adult prison. They are kept by the "family" and have unlimited influence. "Guys" live by themselves and do not serve anyone. Sometimes money is bought for a position. Each thug has two or three "shnyrya" - those who wash and iron him, rub his boots to a shine. They are proud to be close to thieves. And then there are the lowered ones - one or two per company. They are blue. The rest are afraid to even touch them. They have a separate washbasin and a toilet cubicle. You go there - consider it yourself. I'll tell you a story. A "blue" got into the company, no one knew about it, but he did not show himself in any way. He lived like a normal person. I got out of the company, all of a sudden a "malava" (letter) to the godfather comes from freedom: “Who was in your company? This is a rooster lowered. " The whole company, including the godfather, ate soap after that.

    To take the shame off yourself. The rule is stupid, in general ...

    Have you eaten a lot?

    Well, bit by bit. The godfather, however, only licked.

    Kindergarten!

    A thug's rosary twists, if they fall - they are considered "finished", they can no longer be lifted from the floor. Is that the last "whip" will raise to throw it away. And if someone picked it up, they would "beat off a freebie." They will hit hard in the shoulder or chest.

    In heart?

    This is the way it is in the army. A guy was sitting with me in the guardhouse. He was already a “grandfather” and a “spirit” (a soldier of the first year of service. - Author) hit him so hard that his heart stopped. They gave the "grandfather" five years.

    After "beating" you get to the hospital?

    We had a former boxer named Tyson. He hit the soldier so that he had a ruptured spleen. Managed to be taken to the hospital. And one more "beat off a freebie" - hit in the chest, and he fell on the headboard of the bed. And he died.

    "The special baton of the warrant officer tore out a piece of skin from the beaten person."

    Have there been suicides?

    The guys cut their veins. One hanged himself. While they were carrying him on a stretcher to the medical unit, the corpse ... raised his hand - the muscles began to contract. Those who carried it fell unconscious.

    Are there ways to get out of the disbat before the end of the term?

    You wrote about an attempt to escape, when one fugitive was shot from a guard tower, two were detained on the territory of the dispatcher battalion, and one more managed to escape, you wrote. Another guy was about to run through a manhole in the dining room, got stuck in a pipe and nearly suffocated. They barely dragged him out by the legs. There is still a way out - commissioning. To do this, you need to get to the hospital, and there is already a matter of technology: you pay the doctors one hundred or three hundred dollars - and you are commissioned. But getting to the hospital is difficult. Even with enuresis.

    How are such soldiers treated?

    They beat me up, of course. And if they suddenly suspect that they are mowing, hold on! Oh, they don't like that in the army. It is considered: hit, serve, gain respect.

    And how do you do it?

    Of course, work cannot win respect. Someone frankly sues up thieves, others pay. Basically, rebelliousness, rebellion against officers is appreciated. But the chiefs of the unit are fighting the rebels, putting them in the guardhouse. It is not easy to endure there for ten days - it is so cold in autumn and winter that the prisoner runs in circles all the time to keep warm. Only one chamber is more or less warm, where the pipe runs from the boiler room. For the upbringing of especially violent people, water is put into a concrete bag up to the knee and bleach is poured. This is called the "gas chamber". After this, anyone will agree to anything!

    Are the prisoners handcuffed to the wall?

    Easy! They both hang and beat. I wonder if the warrant officer (names his surname) still serves, who was in charge of the guardhouse when I was in the disbat? He had a special rubber truncheon that stretched when struck and pulled out a piece of skin. The ensign often practiced in this way. Of course, for officers, service in the disbat is a link. I saw by chance the files of two of our officers who came to us for service inconsistency. But almost all of them, in one way or another, become sadists there.

    The godfather yelled at the cooks: “What are you giving me? I don't like soup when there is no water in it! "

    When we arrived at the unit, lunch in the canteen was quite decent: pea soup, pasta with meat and pancakes with compote. The cooks from the convicts said that "this happens every day." This is true?

    I repeat: who will tell you the truth? All day you go hungry with one thought - about food. You wake up in the morning and dream: “I'm going to breakfast, eat. What happiness! " You come back from breakfast - what did you eat, what did you listen to the radio. At work you think: "Soon lunch, maybe we'll eat." No, the same thing - liquid soup and a few spoons of porridge. Thieves live in a completely different way. There is such a thing as "fitting". For breakfast, lunch, dinner, the cooks "drive" thieves to a special, separate table, normal food: meat, dumplings, dumplings. In the evenings, cakes are baked for them. I remember how the godfather once yelled at the cooks: “What are you giving me? I don't like soup when there is no water in it. " They were so afraid of him that they put only meat and potatoes on the plate. These cooks are the most unfortunate people in the disbat, although they can sometimes throw themselves an extra bite. They know: if they did not please with something, there will be "killing" in the evening.

    Yes, we arrived an hour and a half before lunch. They would not have had time to prepare so quickly ...

    A disciplinary battalion is an army within an army. When the big bosses unexpectedly show up with a check, they will do everything possible to make the inspectors gasp.

    "I do not regret that I went through the disbat"

    If in the evening there is no officer in the company, "balls" are set up at the windows and doors - observing the ways of approaching the barracks. Lists of "globulars" are available in every company. Senior "ball" - the head of the so-called guard, which includes "chertugans" and recently arrived "men". Standing "sentries" must be so careful that it is not noticeable from the outside. A little something - on the "balls" immediately transmitted: "The officer on duty entered the zone ..." Will reach the godfather - and on the feedback: "Follow where he is going ..." "This is coming!" All quickly manage to lie down in bed. One day the "globular" barked: "Lieutenant Colonel such and such is coming to our company." And he heard. And he punished the whole company - on Sunday he drove them to drill. If you miss the "balls", they will hit. I also stood "on guard" for three months.

    For disassembly, the thieves with the guilty go to the utility room, where there is a toilet and a washbasin. After lights out, you can only crawl along the aisle between the beds. Searchlights from the guard towers shine directly into the windows of the barracks. If the sentry notices that someone is moving inside, he will immediately raise the alarm.

    And the thieves crawl?

    They leave before lights out. If there is no one to punish, they just wash, smoke, make tattoos for themselves with an ordinary electric razor with a needle attached to it. Of course, it hurts, then there are suppurations ... But they are thieves, they need tattoos! During the morning examination, the officer looks to see if anyone has fresh tattoos or bruises. The thieves are interested in no one bruising, otherwise the whole company will suffer, and so will they. Therefore, they hide the beaten one. When, after the determination, my chest was a continuous bruise for a week, none of the officers "saw" me.

    What is the relationship between officers and thieves?

    Throughout the army, officers turn a blind eye to hazing. She is comfortable for them. The commander may not appear in the company, but order will be maintained there. They put pressure on the thieves only for show. In fact, there is a truce between them. I remember that the plowman of the entire zone was locked up in the guardhouse for some offense. The zone rebelled - the officers were afraid to even enter the territory. And the godfather was released.

    What course did you get there from?

    From the third. In fact, cadets rarely get into the disciplinary battalion. But to be honest, I do not regret that it happened. There I realized that I was worth something. Now I have no criminal record, I found a good job. But the main thing is that I am not afraid of anything or anyone in my life.

    "We can only guess what prompted the former disbat member to make dubious revelations."

    After talking with the former convict of the disciplinary battalion, we considered it necessary to consult with the officer who, after serving for many years in the disciplinary battalion, retired and now has nothing to do with the Armed Forces.

    About the "gas" chambers in the guardhouse - incredible nonsense. And the warrant officer (he calls the same name) did not have a rubber truncheon. Although he is a tough person, it is true. There were riots, even an officer was taken hostage. But then we managed to suppress the emergency on our own. There were also shoots. The last in my memory, when the officer on duty himself, having drunk vodka with four convicts at night, took them out of the gate. He was then sentenced to four years. We fought fiercely against such a phenomenon as the "lowered" one - we stirred the bowls on the tables, and cut off the water in the washbasins, except for one, and blindfolded everyone in the toilet so that they would not see who went to which booth. "Determinations" happened, although the Transcaucasians (now they are no longer in our army) were able to come to each other's rescue in such cases, and the Slavic brothers thrashed each other with joy. But there could not be such a thing that at the morning check the officer did not notice bruises.

    Major Oleksandr Naumenko, the press secretary of the Commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, commented on the story of the former member of the military and the press secretary:

    Not a single journalist has yet been denied a visit to the disciplinary unit. A sane person should understand: if the leadership of the Ministry of Defense had the slightest doubts about the order in this part, the journalist would not have set foot there. Yes, there are incidents, but they are immediately suppressed by the convicts themselves or the sergeants, and the perpetrators are punished in accordance with the charter. About dumplings and dumplings for godfathers - fairy tales. And "horror films" with corpses coming to life and sadistic officers are not serious. I have been serving for 18 years and have not heard anything like it - although, fortunately, I did not sit in the disbat. One can only guess what prompted the former disbat member to make dubious revelations. But throwing a stone at a structure that helped you to reform and start a new life is dishonorable at least.

    The commander of the disciplinary unit, Colonel Andrei Shander, put an end to this story:

    What this guy talked about may have happened once, but not with me. And I have been serving here for three years. The country is changing for the better, and so is our part.

    Special rules apply to military personnel, from working conditions to prosecution. The legislation of the Russian Federation provides for this type of punishment as disbat. The decryption is simple: a disciplinary battalion is a disciplinary battalion. Such formations still exist.

    At the legislative level, serving a sentence is stipulated by the Criminal Code (Article 55), "Regulations on a disciplinary military unit" dated 04.06.1997 No. 669, Order of the Minister of Defense dated 20.10.2016 No. 680.

    What is disbat in the army

    Disbat in the army is a place where servicemen are sent to serve their sentences, in whose "service record" a violation of the criminal legislation in force in Russia has appeared.

    Such formations have been known since the time of the tsarist army, but in a more or less familiar form for us, they appeared in the USSR a year before the start of the Great Patriotic War. They were sent there for a period from six months to 2 years due to unauthorized absences from the location of the unit. Subsequently, all those who committed minor common crimes were sent to such battalions. With the outbreak of war, these units ceased to exist, and instead of them, penal units appeared. Servicemen serving sentences in the disciplinary battalions at that time were sent to ordinary or penal units. Separate formations were created for commanders and rank-and-file personnel.

    After the end of the war, the penal units were eliminated, and disciplinary battalions came to replace them again. They still exist not only in Russia, but also in the countries of the former Soviet Union, some CIS countries.

    In fact, the disbat replaces the prison, but such a punishment is imposed in individual cases.

    Differences between a guardhouse and a disciplinary battalion

    Disciplinary arrest, which implies, is not imposed for crimes, but for gross violations of discipline only. Misdemeanors include bullying, AWOL on the part of conscripts, being late from dismissal, vacation or after discharge, and others.

    Persons found guilty of committing a crime and convicted by the court are sent to the disciplinary battalion. Such acts include:

    • failure to comply with an order;
    • insulting a serviceman;
    • resistance to a superior superior in rank and position, violent actions against him;
    • AWOL;
    • desertion;
    • abandonment of a sinking ship;
    • loss of property and similar cases provided for by Chapter 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

    Disbat and "lip" have significant differences. First of all, the basis for the imposition of punishment is a crime (disbat) and a disciplinary offense (guardhouse). The terms are also different: for disbat the limits are from 3 months to 2 years, the arrest does not exceed 30 days.

    Are the formation data left in Russia?

    Disciplinary battalions and units still exist as a method of punishment. It is known about 2 acting disciplinary units:

    • Vch 12801 - 28 odisb, located in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the village of Mulino;
    • Vch 44311 - 36 odisb, Chita region, Chita-45, Kashtak-45.

    Other units, which included similar units, were disbanded. Perhaps, instead of them, other parts have been created with different numbers.

    Thus, the correction of a convicted person in the form of his detention in a disciplinary military unit is still practiced: such a punishment is provided for by legislative norms and the technical capabilities of the system for the execution of sentences.

    Sending to a special unit is rarely used. For example, in 2014, 181 people were sent there, in 2015 - 191 perpetrators, in 2016 only 120 people were transferred. Statistics for the past year have not yet been compiled.

    Grounds for enrollment in the disbat

    The main reason is a conviction for a criminal act. The Criminal Code has a separate chapter dedicated to military service. Among the crimes included in it are hazing, desertion, AWOL, non-observance of orders, violation of the rules of guard and other service, abandonment of a sinking ship, violation of the rules of navigation and others.

    Article 55 of the Criminal Code defines the conditions, the presence of which excludes the possibility of not getting into the disbat:

    • undergoing compulsory military service;
    • the signing of a contract and the appointment of a private or non-commissioned officer on the condition that the convicted person did not serve on conscription;
    • the offense committed is qualified as a crime under Ch. 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation);
    • in other cases, when the crime and the personality of the convicted person make it possible to change the punishment.

    The officers who are in the relevant positions and the contract soldiers who have served the "conscription" are not included in the dispatches.

    Terms of service in a disciplinary battalion

    Service life in disbat cannot be more than 2 years. The minimum stay is 3 months.

    The time of serving in special formations as a punishment is not subject to inclusion in the service. The ratio between being in the disbat and being in civilian colonies is taken as 1: 1 (days in disbat are equal to days in a colony).

    The procedure for keeping servicemen in OSDIB

    The period of stay in a special unit is not included in the service, however, there are exceptions. For this, the convicted person is obliged to own a specialty, and to successfully apply it in practice. Additionally, he should not be seen as violating discipline and statutes. For such military personnel, after release, an exception may be made (it is used quite rarely), and the term of punishment is counted.

    Modes

    The peculiarity of this method of correction is that, regardless of previous achievements, the persons who get there are equal, since they are in the rank of soldiers or sailors. The dress code is also the same.

    The daily routine is established by the commander. In general, it should correspond to the following figures: work and sleep - 8 hours each, military training is carried out once a week, 6 hours are allocated for it, food intake - 3 times a day.

    The rules according to which the sentence is served, approved by the above document No. 680, determine the list and number of things allowed for storage. These include: matches, cigarettes, soap, handkerchiefs, toothpaste and brush, razors, shaving cream, as well as shampoo, mirror, shoe polish, notebooks, fountain pens, pencils and some other things. Others, not listed in the list, must be removed by an official.

    The convicts are entitled to visits: short-term - up to 4 hours twice a month, long-term (3 days) 4 times a year, but only with his wife or parents. A separate room is allocated for long visits, during which time the convict is released from his duties. The number of meetings with a lawyer is not limited. Any of the listed types of meetings is optionally replaced by a telephone conversation.

    Only one parcel can be sent per month; there are no restrictions on parcels received on dates. The content is checked by an official, prohibited items are subject to seizure and storage until release. The list of permitted things is listed in Appendix No. 2 to the mentioned order.

    There are no restrictions on letters and telegrams, including their sending and receiving. All delivered correspondence is opened in the presence of a representative of the unit, prohibited items are seized. The content of the letter remains confidential.

    In exceptional circumstances, convicts are granted short-term leave of up to 7 days, excluding travel, but this is most likely the exception than the rule.

    Promotions and penalties

    A conscientious attitude to duties and observance of discipline are variously encouraged: a gift, a cash bonus, the provision of additional visits, gratitude, the removal of the imposed penalty. At the expiration of 1/3 of the established period, it is possible to transfer to milder conditions, allowing the convict to move around the territory without an escort, spend an unlimited amount of money on food, and even go on dates outside the unit. In respect of especially distinguished citizens, it is allowed to submit a petition for a change of punishment.

    As measures of negative impact for violation of order, a reprimand, a severe reprimand and arrest, replacement of soft conditions with usual ones are used.

    Hello dear readers.

    I would like to talk about a terrible place for soldiers, where, fortunately, only a few go now - about the disbat.

    I myself have not been there. My colleagues and the boy in the hospital told me about the disbat, who left there in full.

    Disbat is a disciplinary battalion, aka "diesel". This is a special military unit to which servicemen are sent who have committed gross disciplinary offenses in relation to service.

    This part is surrounded by high barbed wire fences. Shooting towers are located along the perimeter. There is an armed guard, a canine and equestrian department in case of escape. But, in fact, it is impossible to escape from the disbat.

    Why do they get into the disbat.

    The main reasons for flying into the battalion are beating with the infliction of grievous bodily harm, a gross violation of the charter (for example, while standing orderly, he played with a bayonet with a knife, and then suddenly the company commander comes in and a bayonet knife, as luck would have it, jumps out of his hands and sticks into his leg) , SOCH - unauthorized abandonment of the unit (to give SOCH - an army expression meaning escape from the unit), disclosure of military secrets (we had one shot - I called my girlfriend and said: “I'm sitting here in a warehouse, but there will be enough cartridges and TNT to smash the city ! ”... in the end, the uncles from the FSB arrived and the guy left for demobilization a year later). Thus, you can get into a diesel engine, both for running to scare the birds with a machine gun, and for failing to comply with an order. described about the nutrition of infants.

    How to send to the disbat.

    An act is drawn up on the guilty soldier, the commanders fill in a bunch of papers for him. On the appointed day, a car arrives and takes the soldier away to a remote wilderness, that is, very far from settlements. Once in the dispatcher battalion, the soldier surrenders his things. He is given a special uniform. Mobile phones are prohibited in disbat.

    Service in the disbat.

    In general, seriously speaking, this is not a service, but just hell. Cool dembal peppers break in a week, or even earlier. The soldier is obliged to know the date of the beginning of the service, the date of enrollment in the disciplinary battalion and the date of the end of the service in the disciplinary battalion, the number of the article according to which he was assigned to the disciplinary battalion and the decoding of the article are also memorized. In disbat everything is done according to the charter, all movements are only running and only in formation. The only place to relax is the dining room. There are corrective and forced labor in the disbat. For example, manually making concrete blocks or working on a sawmill. Every day there is a complete jerkiness of the drill, physical exercise, and an unreal jerk off in the repetition of the charter in chorus. In winter, of course, the nerd is that the soldiers are forced to make unrealistically flat edging of snow (edging is a square of snow). If you screwed up somewhere or refused to obey, then you find yourself in the guardhouse. The guardhouse (aka "lip" or "kicha") is a closed room, where it is cold as hard and you need to turn gray on an iron chair, at an iron table. When opening the door, it is necessary to go to the door opener in a marching step and name everything that I described above regarding the article and date, as well as the title and surname. There is only one rank in the disbat for convicts - private. Whether you are an officer or a sergeant, you are a private in a diesel engine. Ranks in the unit are held only by the so-called free conscripts who serve here on conscription, as well as the officers of this unit. It is impossible to agree with either one or the other, since this is a direct road for them to diesel in the form of convicts. For this reason, the conscripts serving there are not talkative, because the first article of the charter says: "The guard is forbidden: To enter into any contact with the convict ...". I know of a case when a convict asked the guard for a cigarette and he gave it to him, and this case was seen by the chief of the guard. The result is deplorable: the guard received a term even longer than the convict to whom he gave a cigarette. There are cases when guys were shoved into the dispatch battalion for quite complete garbage. Most of these cases, of course, were associated with the officer's personal enmity towards the soldier. On rare occasions, it was demonstrated in such a barbaric way that there was discipline in the unit.

    It is especially easy to get into a disbat if the part is statutory. On the Internet, I read the correspondence between Dagestanis about one such statutory part, in which even the most harmful Dagestanis stand on the bedside table, because they are afraid of getting into a disbat. One said to another that they put in a diesel engine for any garbage.

    But the hardest thing, undoubtedly, is for those conscripts who are conscripted in the military dispatcher: any jamb is clearly not in their favor.

    Of course, now they are less likely to be imprisoned in the disciplinary battalion, since the officers are reluctant to run around with paperwork, and they are also deprived of bonuses for violations revealed in part, etc. In addition, there are now only two disbats left. However, if the officers want to, then they will be put in the dispatcher battalion.

    So you should not relax, or, even more so, commit serious violations, so that the service does not turn out to be longer than a year, and for the most part does not take place in absolute hell.

    The article was written by Alexander Terentyev, good service to those who serve and go to serve, and health to parents.

    Disbat

    Disciplinary Battaliondisbat") - a special military unit in which servicemen convicted of criminal offenses during the period of military service and cadets of the VVUZ are serving their sentences, until they receive their primary officer rank. It was created for the same purposes in accordance with the earlier existing criminal code. The term of service of convicts in the "disbat" was not counted in the general term of service, except in special cases (order of the commander of the district). At the end of the 80s, the term of service was increased by the decision of the Military Tribunal to three years. There were dispatches in each district, with a division into "sea" and "land". The servicemen were divided into a "permanent" composition (not convicted, who held positions from squad commanders to battalion commanders) and a "variable" composition - convicts. The "permanent" officer corps was assigned a rank one higher than in ordinary units (platoon commander - captain, company commander - major, battalion commander - colonel). A soldier sent to Disbat ("diesel") by the decision of the Military Tribunal, upon arrival at Disbat, is deprived of his military rank, which is restored to him after serving his term in Disbat (or released on parole). A soldier sent to the disciplinary battalion (application to a convicted person of Article 34 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR) by the decision of the Military Tribunal, upon serving the appointed time, had no criminal record (Article 57 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR).

    Since the end of summer 1942, on the basis of Order No. 227 of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief I.V. Stalin created front-line penal battalions for officers and army penal companies for Red Army men, sergeants and foremen. The combat schedule of the penal units of the Red Army - years. numbered 60 penal battalions and 1049 penal companies. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, they were transformed into disciplinary battalions and under this name they remain after the collapse of the USSR in the armed forces of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus and other CIS countries.

    At present, the procedure and conditions for keeping convicted servicemen in the Disciplinary Battalions are determined by the "Regulations on the Disciplinary Battalion in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" approved by the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of June 4, N 669 and Order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation N 302 of July 29, 1997. of a convicted person in the Disciplinary Battalion is not included in the term of military service (except for the cases of the request of the command of the unit addressed to the Commander of the military district, in whose subordination the Disciplinary Battalion is located, on the offset of the period of stay in the Disciplinary Battalion during the period of active military service), but the convicts remain military personnel and wear shoulder straps of privates (sailors). After serving 1/3 of the sentence, a convict who has taken the path of correction can be enlisted in the "category of those who are being corrected" and allowed to serve in a squad or to work outside the territory of a unit (under escort or without him). After serving at least half of the sentence, those convicted from among those enrolled in the "correcting category" may be submitted to parole (parole).

    I visited the place where there is a "nightmare" of any soldier - where there are no smoke breaks, dismissals, smiles ... There is only merciless, senseless Discipline. He was lucky to get into the Mulinsky disbat. It was lucky that he ended up there as a correspondent. Below are his photographs and a story about a battalion, where a day consists of eight hours of drill on the parade ground, eight hours of cramming the charter or (for the lucky ones) hard physical labor in the reinforced concrete workshop, and eight hours of sleep.

    We left barely light in the composition of eight people on the so-called "press tour for bloggers." Fortunately, we all turned out to be professional journalists, and the bloggers slept well, so no one interfered with our work. But this is the lyrics. And the practice consisted in the fact that after five hours of travel we parked at the checkpoint of military unit 12801. And then there were photos and a few signatures under them.

    The uniform of the already outdated sample with the "Convoy" stamps on the back and numbers on the chest and sleeves (company number). This is done to make it easier for escorts to identify their charges. All the time in the ranks. Drill training takes a third of the day in the life of a convicted soldier in a disbat. The other two-thirds are divided between household chores, study of the charter, and sleep. The meaning is simple - a disciplinary battalion is not a prison, it is a military unit, staying in which is designed to return the soldier who stumbles to respect for discipline. And it is grafted. Yesterday's brawlers and thugs walk along the line, shyly lowering their extinct gaze. Strict and even absurd adherence to the letter and spirit of the army regulations is the most effective method. Those who have gone through the disbat, according to statistics, stumble then extremely rarely - according to the zamkombat, during the last year there were only two requests from the court asking to give a description of the former local "pets".

    Arrival of the "young replenishment". I would not dare to call this moment the most joyful in the life of Private S.G., although he, apparently, does not yet realize where he is. The zampolit read out to him the order to enroll in the third disciplinary company. Now he will have a few free minutes over the course of ten months to ponder whether he should have refused to clean up the barracks, as do all the orderlies on duty. In the disbat the most proud horsemen plow like bees from morning till night, just to earn parole.

    And this is the text of the verdict, if anyone is interested.

    And three more newcomers. The eyes are still shining, curiosity is still read in them - after all, a new page in life. It would have been better not to open it. But it's too late.

    Muslim soldiers gathered for Friday prayers at a makeshift mosque set up at the club. Natives of the North Caucasus make up 42% of the contingent, and the mullah comes to them every Friday.

    In the wooden church of St. Sergius, built by the soldiers themselves, is also crowded: the priest tells about the lives of the holy apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas. I have a strong suspicion that the priest was asked to come specially on the occasion of our visit - the day, frankly speaking, is not a Sunday or a holiday. But the guys can break away from the stupefying routine at least for a few minutes.

    The cross was kissed, back in line, and a march at a step - in this part, movement can be of only two types: a marching step or a run. There is no third.

    Hozzon. Working in a concrete plant is a privilege that must be earned. And although the work is hard and monotonous, it allows at least partly to break out of the vicious circle - drill, cleaning, drill, outfit, drill, cleaning ...

    Fences, barbed and cutting wires, a ban, submachine gunners on towers, ferocious dogs - it's almost impossible to run. Although there were precedents. Many attempts ended very badly: the dogs know no mercy, and the sentries shoot to kill immediately after the warning shot.

    Ordinary ration, soldier's ration - in this debate does not differ from any other part.

    This part, unlike the others, is divided into two parts: one is ordinary, the second is behind a thorn and sluice doors. In the first - the guard barracks, there is also a "contingent", or "variable composition", but always under the supervision of four submachine gunners. The cartridges in the horns are live, everything is real.

    In fact, outwardly, it all looks like an ordinary military unit, and to an outside observer it is not entirely clear what has inspired such horror for many generations of soldiers since the middle of the 19th century, when the first disbats appeared. In fact, this can be understood, probably, only by the one who served. Remember the first two weeks of training? Endless drills, rebounds, lifts, "set aside - to the original", senseless work to complete exhaustion, drill in the cold or under the scorching sun and not a minute of personal time. So, here everything (and much worse) is ALWAYS, from the first to the last day. And no concessions ever. I understand perfectly well that we were shown a glossy picture - everything looks too correct and exemplary: this does not happen in life. I do not know what happens in the barracks at night, when the grate into the sleeping compartment is closed - we must not forget that many of the local inhabitants managed to go through the pre-trial detention center and picked up the traditions there. The officers say that nothing is happening, and maybe it is, but I don't know.

    In the Soviet Army there were 16 disbats, in the Russian army there were 4 not long ago, now there are two left - in Mulino, and in the Far East, in Ussuriisk. At the end of the year, the question of their existence will be decided. Are they needed or not? The argument for - it's still not a prison, and the conviction is removed from the convicted immediately after the end of the term. The argument is against - when switching to a one-year term of conscription, many soldiers who have committed crimes simply do not have time to get here: the term of service expires before the end of the investigation and trial, and they automatically become "clients" of the general criminal punishment system. That is why there are only 170 in the barracks, designed for 800 people, and this is from all over the European part of Russia.

    My evaluative opinion: I am in favor of a contract army, but as long as there is none, the military punishment system is still effective.

    And ideally, since the military is judged by a military court, then they should sit in military detention centers and military prisons, as, for example, in the States. Regardless of titles and ranks. All the same, the army is too separate structure. In 2002-2006. there was already an attempt to cancel the guardhouse, which eventually ended in its restoration. And I, who sat on the “lip” three times (albeit not for long), remember very well what an effective deterrent tool it was.

    By the way, for especially talented representatives in the disbat there is its own guardhouse. I can't even imagine what awaits those who got there. It’s probably better not to know.
