    How We Learned About Homeschooling

    Even before the birth of our son, we bought educational materials, read various literature, and then we learned about. When Matvey was born in 2003, we began to look for even more information on this topic. We looked through a huge number of forums, registered on some of them, began to communicate, learn something new, using sports using special methods.

    After a couple of years of our studies, it became clear that Matvey was developing “outside the format”. He is ahead of his peers, and he is not very interested in communicating with them. He is a contemplator by nature: he loves to thoroughly study the process, to the smallest detail. And if he owns a topic, then at a very high level, almost like a specialist. And it gives average knowledge, focusing on the average ability of a person. When there is an opportunity to practice taking into account the individuality of the child, why not take advantage of it?

    Trial and error method

    At the beginning of the journey, we faced a problem: there were no like-minded people around us, people with whom we could discuss some important points, understand whether we were going there. This does not mean that we did not have understanding in our inner circle: our relatives supported us and certainly did not interfere. But we needed a space for creativity, a space for ideas. And it was just beginning to form in those years. An interview with one of the first practitioners of Russian family education, Igor Chapkovsky, turned out to be very important for us. We realized that his theses are close to us, we learned about how the educational process is organized in his school. But for a number of reasons, it did not suit us. And we had to walk this path on our own, making mistakes and correcting them. And this path was full of challenges that had to be answered. We didn't have time to reflect on whether we were doing the right thing, or moving in the right direction. We just needed to keep moving.

    Another teaching philosophy

    Many are wondering if a parent as a teacher can handle discipline in the "classroom." We never had this question: we did not turn the house into a school. Home education, in our understanding, does not imply a schedule, changes and calls. This is a completely different teaching philosophy. You can understand the world around you in the park, in the forest, on a walk, in the village with your grandmother, and when shopping in a store. Matvey also went to a math circle, studied foreign languages ​​with a tutor, like other children who go to a regular school.

    There is such a stereotype that a child at home has a lack of communication. This is not so: he does not sit at a desk in the circle of his peers, but this does not mean that he has undeveloped communication skills and does not communicate with anyone. Matvey studied at music and sports schools, participated in concerts, competitions, studied at the scientific and educational center, where they teach chemistry, physics, computer science, and auto business. And once the son even gave interviews for television. And in all these cases, he had no communication problems.

    This type of education has an important advantage for the whole family: there is no connection to a place, you can go even to a dacha, even to another country. ... You can independently regulate the load, somewhere you can take an increased program, and somewhere you can be content with the base. The child has the opportunity to develop according to interests and abilities. The disadvantages are that you cannot shift the responsibility to other people, send your child to school and ... forget. Motivating a child is also a separate, big job. And the parent himself also needs motivation. After all, sometimes you have to immerse yourself in material that is obviously uninteresting to you.

    Legal aspects

    A homeschooled child must undergo regular appraisals. At first it was in the district school: every quarter Matvey wrote tests in the main subjects. The difficulty was that we had to synchronize our classes with school ones. It was necessary to study using the same textbooks, using the same methodology as the class to which Matvey was assigned. The controls were adapted for this program. So it turned out that we wanted to develop in a system of interests close to our child, but we had to adapt to a standardized program.

    At some point, the school was obliged to take exams from those who are in alternative forms of education, according to the standards of the Moscow Center for the Quality of Education. These were flawed tests, a bizarre mixture of different programs. It was very difficult to prepare for them, because we did not know what could get caught in the exam. I had to use pre-examination materials in my preparation. Classes on them took a lot of time and effort and were more like coaching. That is why we had to abandon cooperation with the district school and switch to Internet education, this is permitted by law.

    At the same time, we did not have any legal problems in connection with this form of training. Nobody in the department of education interfered with us, and unnecessary questions did not arise. For a couple of years, we even received a small monetary compensation, which went to additional education. Then the compensation was canceled, and we were forced to change our status from family education to part-time education.

    I hope our experience will be useful to parents who. This option can hardly be called an alternative, because it is independent, everyone has their own path and their own methods. And it is very difficult to say in advance whether this way of getting an education is suitable for your family. But who's stopping to try and decide?

    More recently, I read data from a study of home and family learning by the National Center for Education Statistics. It turns out that in each country about 5-10% of the total number of children are on this type of education. For example, in Russia annually there are up to 100 thousand children receiving home education. The numbers surprised me and even shocked me a little!

    Why do parents not want to send their child to a comprehensive school?

    There can be many reasons:

    • some moms and daddies believe that the school does not provide a sufficiently high-quality and in-depth education
    • there are a number of parents who believe that the load at school is quite serious and badly affects the physical and psychological state of the child
    • intimidation, exposure to bad habits: smoking, drugs, alcohol, as well as division into a social level by peers
    • parents' desire to establish their own curriculum.
    • classrooms are overcrowded, so the teacher is unable to give each student the appropriate attention
    • parents wanted and want to spend maximum time with their child
    • the family lives far enough from the school, and getting to it is very problematic.
    • the parents had a bad schooling experience.

    Perhaps there are dozens of other reasons, but I have identified the main ones that are common.

    Why don't kids want to go to school?

    Now let's answer a worried parent's question, "Why doesn't a son or daughter want to go to school?" You yourself understand that children are different and there can be a lot of reasons. I will bring to your attention the most relevant ones, which were highlighted by psychologists:

    • in the schools of our country, due attention is not paid to each student, there is no individual approach depending on his mental and physical abilities. As a rule, the general education system is designed for the average student. Therefore, in practice, it has been noticed that children with high intellectual abilities do not develop their gift, they are sad, lazy and descend to the level of a middle school student. But a child with weak mental abilities does not feel comfortable, complex when called to the blackboard, is afraid of ridicule, answering to the whole class. Therefore, the parents of those and other children understand the needs of their child and transfer them to home or family education. Thus, child prodigies develop their abilities and do not get bored from lack of information, while the weak ones study according to a simplified program and do not build up inferiority complexes in themselves.
    • the child's attitude to school in most cases depends on the first teacher. Agree that not everyone is lucky with the first teacher! For example, my daughter was very lucky. My baby went to school with pleasure, absorbed every word that Lydia Alexandrovna said. And not only she! The director, parents and children were delighted with her teaching method, with the ability to present information in an interesting, professional and intelligible way. It was also important that she was patient, fair, attentive to every child, never raised her voice or singled out anyone, writing down as favorites. That is why, the whole class, being in the 8th grade, has been preserved in full force, has a fairly high academic score and now confirms its knowledge in all subjects with different teachers. But I don't even want to remember the first tyrannical teacher! Although I studied well, I was afraid to go to school and did not want to. Her cry and constant discontent with all the children stood in my ears! I will not judge, but simply say that my class breathed a sigh of relief when, for family reasons, she moved to another city.
    • complex school curriculum. Many parents and teachers, with horror, understand: what an unbearable burden to fall on the shoulders of students! Attending school, he sits on 5-8 intense lessons, getting to know the topic of a subject, and then, coming home, he thoroughly studies the material and does a huge amount of homework. The child is emotionally and physically tired, cannot withstand such loads, is sick and refuses to go to school. Seeing the condition of the child, some parents decide to go home or family schooling.
    • disabled child. Unfortunately, there are children who cannot attend school for health reasons. And there are tens, or even hundreds of thousands of such children in every country. For them, there is a special home schooling program and a secondary education certificate.

    What are the forms of home schooling ?!

    Now that we understand the reasons for learning at home, let's talk about how it can be, consider its priorities and disadvantages.

    There are six forms of home education:

    1. Anscouling, which translated from English means "no school." Believe it or not, this is a complete rejection not only of the school, but of the school curriculum as a whole. It is not difficult to guess that unschooling is a very risky decision of parents in relation to the future of the baby. Confident in their pedagogical and mental abilities, parents believe that they themselves will be able to teach the child everything necessary, in a peculiar form will master all the sciences that he will need in life and when entering a higher educational institution. This mostly turns out to be a fatal mistake! That is why unschooling is prohibited in many countries, including Russia and Ukraine.
    2. Home schooling- this is a close connection with the school curriculum and teachers. For this form of education, a medical certificate is issued, indicating forced home schooling. As a result, school teachers conduct individual lessons with the child at home, without deviating from the secondary education program: with writing independent, test papers and passing exams.
    3. Homeschooling with partial school attendance... This type of training is provided only due to medical indications approved by a special medical commission. These may be children with special needs who are only allowed to attend a few lessons per day.
    4. Family learning significantly differs from home in that the lessons are conducted by the parents or relatives themselves, independently choosing the lesson schedule, materials and their volumes. You say that this is an unschooling! No, I dare to object to you! Being in family education, the kid is assigned to school, every year he undergoes certification, passes exams, and also a prerequisite is the passing of an independent examination assessment. Upon graduation, the child receives the same certificate as schoolchildren attending an educational institution.
    5. Externship, drawn up by agreement with the school administration. With the help of relatives, the child learns the basics of science at home, and then passes the tests and exams without coming to school.
    6. Remote method Is training by teachers via the Internet via Skype or forums. Homework and control robots are performed online. The distance learning method is coordinated and approved by the school administration due to the valid circumstances of the student.

    Assessing the pros and cons of learning at home.

    Let's dwell on the positive and negative aspects of home education.

    Positive sides:

    • children receive education at a convenient time for them and taking into account their wishes
    • excludes the fact of violence by teachers and peers
    • no need to follow school rules and absurd rituals.
    • there is an opportunity for parents to completely control the child, to engage in his moral, religious and ethical education.
    • a great opportunity to live by your biological clock. This is a great opportunity to get enough sleep, if you need to stop or if you are sick, cancel classes, etc.
    • study special sciences or rare languages.
    • the risk of acute respiratory infections, acute respiratory viral infections, injuries, infectious diseases is reduced, and problems with posture and visual impairment are practically excluded.
    • there is a constant contact of the child with the parents, as a result, bad or any other influence on the growing personality is excluded.
    • there is a unique opportunity to complete a school course in less than ten years.

    Negative sides:

    • no experience of communicating with the team
    • the need for constant employment of parents by teaching the child, monitoring the educational process.
    • there is no clear work schedule and strict discipline, which stimulates the speed of completing study assignments.
    • no experience in resolving conflict situations among classmates and high school students
    • parents will not be able to professionally and fully teach all school subjects without exception. No matter how talented they are.
    • overprotectiveness will lead to selfishness in the child
    • the baby will grow up like a houseplant - without everyday experience
    • the imposition of their point of view by the parents is destructive for the child and leads to a complete lack of their opinion
    • the baby feels that he is not like everyone else and tries on the image of a "white crow".

    • ideological or moral principles of parents;
    • due to serious health problems, the student does not keep up with the school curriculum (oncology, epilepsy, and others).

    For health

    In this case, medical indications are the basis for home study. Among them are the presence of chronic diseases in a schoolchild, long-term outpatient treatment or a protracted nature of the disease. Steps for parents to switch to home education:

    1. A medical certificate must be issued through the KEC (control and expert commission). You need to contact your doctor for written recommendations. After their submission to the KEC, a conclusion will be made. The medical certificate records the diagnosis and the duration of the recommended study at home (from 1 month to 1 year), the signatures of the doctors and the round seal of the polyclinic are put.
    2. In the name of the head of the educational institution in which the child was trained, it is necessary to draw up a written application with a request to transfer the student to an individual curriculum. A KEK certificate is attached to it.
    3. On the basis of the documents received, the school administration has no right to refuse the parents' request. The management is obliged to organize an individual schedule of lessons and mid-term tests.

    For family education

    If the individual form of education at school is expensive for parents, then they have the right to teach the child on their own. According to the Law on Education of the Russian Federation, this can be done at any period of the academic year. Steps to be taken by parents:

Others are talented children-athletes or artists, etc., who cannot go to school every day and spend time doing voluminous homework, since they work a lot to achieve their goal. Others are forced to resort to individual homeschooling due to serious illness or disability. Sometimes situations arise when a child categorically refuses to attend an educational institution due to constant conflicts with classmates and teachers, and then family education can serve as a way out. But how to switch to home schooling at school, what can be the consequences? Homeschooling at school - what it is and how it differs from others, it is better to study these and other questions in advance.

    Types and characteristics of homeschooling

    There are six types of homeschooling accepted in the world:

    • Family learning. It involves the organization of the educational process by parents acting as teachers on their own, or inviting teachers. In this case, the student is attached to the school and has the right to attend it. However, by the decision of the family, it will be better for him to go through. The studies are carried out on the basis of an officially established program with annual attestation. Also, in order to receive a real diploma confirming graduation from school, the child will need to pass an exam.
    • Homeschooling with partial school attendance. This option is suitable for children with certain medical conditions that limit school attendance. Children with a number of illnesses are allowed to partially attend classes in order not to lag far behind their team.
    • Home schooling. What it is: for health reasons, some children are shown homeschooling. In this case, the child studies the general education program of the school in which he is registered with the teachers, but the child's self-study options are also acceptable. The passing of tests and exams is also carried out at home. This option is designed specifically for children with disabilities. But it is possible to obtain permission for such a form of education only if there is an appropriate decision of the medical commission.
    • Externship. Ideal for children with a high level of knowledge, for whom the average school curriculum is much easier. The child takes exams immediately (often two to three years in advance) without any intermediate control and other tests. It can be designed for children of any age.
    • Remote way. In the era of high technology, this teaching method is perfect for students who live far from school or who want to learn from more qualified teachers. It can be either an addition to school attendance, or it can completely replace it. Training and communication with teachers takes place remotely. All the necessary materials can be obtained from a kind of online system. But the child can also communicate directly with teachers (for example, through applications such as Skype), and all tests will take place online. All details of this method are agreed with the school administration.
    • Unschooling. He is the most radical training option. Based on the complete exclusion of school from life. Parents teach their children independently, without focusing on any kind of program. Because of this, it is not known whether the child will be able to fully develop and live in society further. For the above reason, this type of individual home education is prohibited in many countries around the world.

    Legal grounds for switching to home schooling

    The possibility of switching to home schooling has been confirmed at the legislative level. This issue is regulated in the Russian Federation "No. 273-ФЗ dated 12.21.2012 as amended and amended in 2016-2017.

    It is advisable for parents to know some subtleties before placing a child for home schooling:

    What are the pros and cons do you see in home education?

    The most important plus is the health of children. Different researchers come to the same conclusion - school worsens the health of children. If we take the research of the Ministry of Health, we can say that the older the schoolchildren get, the less healthy they are. By the end of school, the number of healthy children drops 3-4 times. 93% of graduates have various diseases: neuropsychiatric disorders, gastritis, scoliosis, etc.

    Children spend time immobile, are in a physiologically harmful position at the desk, in constant tension: fear of answering at the blackboard, conflicts with classmates, noise at recess, malnutrition at school ... Children spend several hours a day in serious stress. Plus, the burden of homework is added to this.

    By middle school, the difference between children who spend 9 hours on schoolwork and homework, and a child who spend 2 hours at home, becomes apparent. The second one spends the rest of his free time in the fresh air, he gets enough sleep, can afford to go in for sports.

    If the parents are able to pay for the services of a good tutor, it is obvious that the educational material will be learned better than in a school class of 25 children.

    Homeschooled children they are more independent of assessment and other people's opinion, they are more result-oriented and more independent. Children get used to being not in the herd or in the crowd. They grow up with bright personalities. From my point of view, this is a plus. Although it is more difficult for parents with such children than with an obedient child ( smiles).

    The disadvantages of home education are reflected mainly in the parents ( smiles).

    For mom, homeschooling becomes a second job - in fact, this is the work of the director of a mini-school. It is necessary to find teachers, organize the educational process and logistics (if travel is necessary), spend a lot of time with the children.

    Every year there are more and more homeschooled children in Russia. Now their number has reached 100,000.


    What is the difference between family education and part-time education?

    The Law "On Education in the Russian Federation" offers the following forms of education:

    - full-time - regular school;

    - part-time - the child can study part of the subjects at school, and part - take exams;

    - correspondence (including distance learning);

    - family education and self-education - learning not according to the school curriculum, but as the parents want.

    The difference between distance learning and family education is that in the first case, the child clearly adheres to the school program, and in family education, he learns what the parents consider more correct.

    It turns out that with the family form of education, the child will be left without a certificate?

    No. The child can take the final exams as an external student. It's just that with this form of education there is no strict adherence to the school plan.

    When do you need to take exams?

    You can take current control during the school year according to the school plan and be assigned a student to a specific class. In this case, you have the right to receive teacher advice.

    And you can study in a family form and, when you need a certificate, you will need to take all subjects at school.

    How do you know if homeschooling is right for your child?

    This training option is suitable for all children if it is compensated by the parents.

    Parents need to be responsible and have the resources to provide their child with a fulfilling learning and social environment. If you think that someone else will have to organize this without your direct participation, then home education will not work for your family.

    Also, the option of teaching at home to children - social activists who simply need power, social and organizational activity - may not be suitable. In this case, the school may be almost the only place to realize these ambitions. But there are very few such children ...

    How will a homeschooled child learn to interact with peers? How is socialization going?

    If we count that 24 hours a day for three months during summer holidays, another month of autumn, winter and spring holidays, plus Saturdays and Sundays, plus holidays and time outside of school - so much time a year the child is out of the school team.

    Then you need to take into account that this very socialization at school takes place during school changes, which last 10 minutes. How long can a child communicate freely with peers at school? Can we be sure that this scanty time will ensure the socialization of the child?

    The best socialization occurs in companies that are not supervised by adults, so to speak, in an unstructured society. Ideally, a yard company. Or in associations of interest: circles and sections. There are various health camps and sanatoriums. This is more than enough to learn how to interact with people.

    When children of the same age were herded into the school premises without any common interests, this is the wrong model for socialization. In real adult life, the models are different.

    Common goals and interests are found in people of completely different ages. Therefore, I believe that the school model even worsens or diminishes socialization. If we take the definition of socialization from Wikipedia, which is the ability to achieve success in an adult society, then the likelihood of adult success after the school model decreases.

    What should parents be prepared for when transferring a child to home schooling?

    First, be prepared for criticism, gloomy predictions and predictions from friends and relatives. Public pressure will be imperative. Our people cannot calmly look at those who do not walk in a social order, like everyone else ( smiles). And parents need to learn how to send all well-wishers to go about their business.

    Secondly, parents must be prepared for financial and time costs. It is easier for parents of children who go to school - they shift all responsibility to the school, and nothing concerns them.

    How much time and money will it take for parents to study at home?

    It depends on the ambitions of the parents and on the degree of their desire to take a direct part in the educational process.

    You will need tutors for at least the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry and Russian. Also in specialized subjects for the selected university.

    The school program with tutors is mastered ten times faster. And it turns out not so and expensive, if you take rehearsals in the 6-7 grade.

    Additional activities in sections and circles. It all depends on the capabilities of the parents: you can send your child to free classes in municipal institutions, or you can pay for the most prestigious and expensive club in the city.

    How to choose the right tutor?

    An important criterion for me is sincere love and good attitude towards children. In addition, the teacher should have "burning eyes" about his subject, he himself should be interested! I usually look for referral educators.

    It is also important to find out what the cost of a lesson for this tutor, and for how long he can give a school program in his subject. As a rule, 100-200 hours of lessons are enough to get a normal grade, 200-300 hours - for excellent knowledge of the subject.

    Does the school somehow take part in the child's life at home?

    School teachers visit only those children who are in home education for medical reasons. These are usually children with disabilities.

    If you are enrolled in a school, you must be provided with textbooks.

    How to properly organize the day of a child who studies at home?

    If with schooling a child spends about 9 hours a day on school lessons and homework, then with home teaching the same amount of knowledge can be obtained in 2-3 hours. Imagine how much time your child has for extra sleep and walks!

    In addition, there is no time wasted on listening to other people's answers in the classroom, on establishing discipline in the classroom, on transitions from class to class. The child is engaged in productive activities, spending very little time. For example, my daughter completes a six-month math exercise book in a day and a half.

    Therefore, there is no need to organize the day. Of course, tutors come at a certain time, there is a schedule for visiting additional classes, circles and sports sections. Specifically, it makes no sense to organize classes at home by the hour.

    If the child is eager to go to school, of course, let him go. Do not deprive him of this experience. You can transfer your child to home schooling at any time.

    A strange question ... I am rather puzzled why smart educated city dwellers, especially those who have reached career heights and material security, break their children, innocently imprisoning them for eleven years in this System.

    Yes, of course, in the past centuries in the villages the Teacher was much more developed and financially secure, had a higher social status and level of culture than the parents of the children. And now?

    Even then the nobles did not send their children to schools, they organized education at home ...

    Why does a child need school and why do parents need it?

    It is very convenient for working parents to put their child in a storage room under minimal supervision, consoling themselves that everyone is doing this. The position of non-working mothers with a wealthy husband looks stranger, who are so stressed by their own children that they even give them away for extended periods ... It seems that these children were given birth only as a way to provide for themselves in money and public opinion, then almost all of them would have done so ...

    A child almost never needs school. I have not yet met a single child who would like to continue to go to school at the end of October instead of vacations. Yes, of course, the child wants to chat or play with friends, but not sit in the classroom. That is, if the child is provided with comfortable communication outside of school, attending school completely loses its meaning for the child ...

    School doesn't teach children anything

    The first myth: the school teaches (gives the child knowledge, education).

    Modern urban children go to school, already knowing how to read, write and count. No other knowledge acquired in school is used in adult life. Those of the children who choose the appropriate specialization will study physics or chemistry again. The rest after leaving school cannot remember what they were taught all these dreary years.

    Considering that the school curriculum has not changed for many decades, and the child's handwriting is much more important in it than blind ten-finger typing on a computer keyboard, the school does not provide a child with any truly useful knowledge and skills for further success in adult life. Even if we assume that it is precisely this set of facts for memorizing a school subject that is really necessary for a child, his can be given ten times faster.

    What do tutors successfully do, teaching a child in a hundred hours what the teacher has not taught in 10 years and a thousand hours ...

    In general, this is a very strange system, when a thousand hours stretches over several years ... Already at the institute, each subject is given in larger blocks for six months or a year. And a very strange teaching method, when children are forced to sit still and listen to something ...

    The experience of numerous parents of applicants shows that several years of studying a subject - over a thousand hours at school plus homework - do not help a student to know the subject in a volume sufficient to enter a good university. In the last two school years, a tutor is hired and re-teaches the child the subject - usually a hundred hours is enough to be among the best in the class.

    Top managers. Major government officials. Prominent public figures. Popular athletes, artists, writers.

    These people are distinguished in the first place ability to achieve your goals... Thinking speed. Ability to act. Activity. Strength of will. Perseverance. And, as a rule, they put a lot of effort to achieve the result. They know how not to give up the case halfway through. Excellent communication skills - negotiation, sales, public speaking, effective social connections. The skill to make decisions instantly and do it right away. Stress tolerance. Fast high-quality work with information. The ability to concentrate on one thing, dropping everything else. Observation. Intuition. Sensitivity. Leadership skills. The ability to make choices and be responsible for them. Sincere passion for your work. And not only by their own business - their interest in life and cognitive activity is often no worse than that of preschoolers. They know how to give up unnecessary things.

    They know how to find good teachers (mentors) and quickly learn what is important for their development and career.

    Rather, on the contrary ...

    All the years of school, it is obvious that we are not talking about any sincere enthusiasm - even if the student manages to get carried away with a couple of subjects, they cannot be chosen by abandoning the uninteresting. They cannot be studied deeply within the school. Most often they are carried away outside of school.

    Nobody is interested in the achievement of the result - the bell rang, and you are obliged to give up what you have not completed and go to the next lesson. All 11 years old children are taught that the result is unnecessary and not important. Any business should be dropped halfway through the call.

    Thinking speed? When targeting middle peasants or weak students? With outdated ineffective teaching methods? With complete intellectual dependence on the teacher, when is only thoughtless repetition of previously voiced facts allowed? A student with a high speed of thinking in the classroom is simply not interested. At best, the teacher simply does not bother him to read under the desk.

    Strength of will? Activity? The system will make every effort to make the child obedient. “Be like everyone else. Keep your head down, "is this the wisdom of life that is needed for adult success in society?

    They do not teach high-quality work with information at school - most middle students stupidly do not understand the text they have read, cannot analyze and formulate the main idea.

    Responsibility for choice? So the students are not given a choice ...

    Negotiations and public speaking? Developing intuition and sensitivity?

    Leadership skills? Ability to act? Not included in the program at all ...

More often than not, few urban parents are less educated and successful in society than teachers in order to prefer the teacher as a role model. With modern teachers there is a so-called “double negative selection”: first, those who could not get points in a more prestigious university enter the teacher's educational institutions, and then only the least initiative of the graduates stay to work at the school, the rest find a higher-paid and prestigious job.

    In general, the only society that looks like a school in adulthood is prison. But it is easier for prisoners there than for children: they are of different ages, with different interests, they are not forced to engage in uninteresting business. There they understand what they are punished for. They will be released earlier than 11 years later, if they have not received a sentence for the murder.

    Is the school class a model of an adult society? This is not true - I personally do not live in a world where all people are of the same age ... Where they have no common interests ... Where I am forced to obey a low-paid loser ... Wherever I get carried away by the business, after 45 minutes on a call I would have to leave it without achieve a result and run to another room ...

    Adults have a choice: what to do (and you can always change your job and boss), with whom to communicate, what should be considered the result, what interests to have.

    In the modern world, the upbringing, education and socialization of a child is the responsibility of parents. When we send a child to school, we simply arrange things so that he does not interfere with us. We are improving our life now due to his future career and happiness.

    Alternative to educational traditions

    How to harm your child with grades

    Very often, parents consider the child's grades from school to be an important indicator of their parenting success. And instead of giving the responsibility for learning to their children, such moms and dads make a serious mistake. They try to convince the child that all his value is determined by the assessments of other people's aunts. What the outside aunts think of him turns out to be more important than what the child is, what the child's inclinations and interests are.

    When parents broadcast to their children that the external assessment of outsiders is the most important thing in a child's life, then this is a way to raise a child insecure, without their own opinion and choice.

    If we scold children for poor grades, and even more often we scold not for bad grades, but for not the highest grade points, then in fact we are trying to convince the child that all his value is determined by other people's grades, and what the outside aunts think of him , more important than what the child is. As soon as we begin to make claims to the child that he does not have the maximum score, we immediately begin with all our strength to form this dependence on someone else's opinion, contrary to our own.

    Why is the school system good for the state and how bad is it for those parents who want something more for their children than working on an assembly line or working as a state employee? Precisely by the fact that a child is inculcated for ten or eleven years, that his opinion about him is not significant. Only the opinion of outside women, expressed in the form of an assessment, matters.

    It doesn't matter what the score is. “Excellent”, “good”, “satisfactory” - any of the assessments shifts the focus of our child's attention from his, what is called in psychology, “internal reference”, that is, from his reliance on his own knowledge of himself, on his own opinion about himself, on their own opinion about some necessary important and necessary matters, on the contrary, on the fact that the child believes that he does not mean anything, it is only important what others think about him.

    It turns out that we are too attentive to someone else's assessment of our child, in fact, we betray him and form a loser in him. As a result, an adult has no opinion of his own; someone else's assessment is more important to him than his own. Adult fear of negative assessment is usually formed precisely during school years - by parents who inadequately attach great importance to school assessments.

    Although in reality, almost all adults understand perfectly well that at the age of 30 it does not matter whether you had a C in chemistry in the eighth grade - this does not in any way affect adult success. Or, an excellent grade in physics doesn't guarantee love and business success when you're 40.

    So why harm your children?

    How do “children without school” and their mother live?

    I decided to collect in one note my answers to the numerous questions that I am asked after articles about the shortcomings of the school and the alternative option for studying at home.

    1. I don’t have an answer to the question whether individualized education is right for you and your children. I DONT KNOW... I am not familiar with you.

    Homeschooling isn't for everyone. A small percentage of the population of any country is capable of taking responsibility for the development of their children. Most parents find it easier to give their child somewhere than to do on their own. Including because even a manager-parent or teacher is much more difficult to motivate his own child than adults subordinate to him.

    And not all parents have enough resources to equip their children with a good educational environment.

    2. The experience of countries where homeschooling is the norm statistically supports the benefits of homeschooling. As a result, children of Americans who study at home enter the best universities. And in the future they receive many times higher salaries. This is not least because parents put a lot more energy into their children at home. Therefore, grown children build more successful careers.

    3. It won't be easy right away. There are a lot of things you have to go through in the beginning:

    1) Step over your fears: "how I will not be like everyone else", "what if I deprive my child of something", "I will not cope", "they will condemn me", "it is very expensive and it takes a lot of time" and etc.

    2) "Withstand the battle" with relatives and school administration in order to register the child on an individual plan.

    3) Constantly listen to the moral teachings of relatives and people around you, how wrong you live. And their gloomy predictions about your children.

    4) Organize the educational process ourselves.

    5) Pay for tutors and spend much more time with the child.

    My experience and the experience of my friends (excellent tutors, teachers "from God") shows that the child does not perceive his own mother and "does not obey". You can teach strangers anything you want. But their own children learn only in the process of joint activities (games, conversations, discussions, business, etc.). The format of "lessons" with their own children, as a rule, does not work. Teaching your children (not by joint activities, but by the method of lessons) is much more difficult than being a teacher with strangers. With his mother, the child is used to a different relationship.

    You can, of course, teach the child yourself. But personally, a tutor costs me less (I earn more at this time than if I was engaged with the children myself). And more efficient in time - she explains faster and gets results faster than I can. For a day of my work, I pay for a year of work of a tutor with my children. And freed from the need to engage in uninteresting and unnecessary school routine. There are a million more useful and interesting things to do together than teaching school lessons with your child. I prefer to be an authority for the child in the field of my professional knowledge, and not stand over his soul with dictations or demand to tell me the rules from the textbook. So it's better to save your nerves - earn more at this time. Hire a tutor - "someone else's aunt" will teach you school subjects faster.

    And involve the child in your adult affairs. Give him a feasible job within your profession, for example. Send to different circles. Download educational games.

    A tutor comes to my daughters once a week for 1.5 hours - that's enough. Children read a lot themselves, it is easy for them to learn.

    5. The ability for self-development is killed in school. In kindergarten, children are endlessly interested in everything and develop very quickly. Leaving your child to study at home, you keep his cognitive activity.

    6. It is also very convenient to motivate a child to perform independent tasks with the “most terrible threat”: “If you do not complete the test on time, they will be removed from the individual plan. And you will have to go to school every day. " Works very well ... Especially if the rest of the motivation is "in charge" of the tutor. For example, my daughters really do not want to upset her, so they quickly do all the tasks before she arrives.

    7. On the individual plan (in Belarus) in primary school, children are required to pass tests or tests in the main subjects: Russian and Belarusian (language and literature), mathematics, the world around them, English. Then other items will be added. You can do this at least once a quarter. It is more convenient for me and it is easier for children to do this once a week as the class progresses through the program - the teacher gives assignments home, checks the finished ones, calls them to the blackboard in those lessons that my children agreed to attend (and persuades them to go more often - they do not want to at all, despite the continuous praise and 10s). They write some of the tests in the classroom, so that the teacher is convinced that they themselves know, and not someone at home has decided for them. Basically, they do the program of the week in 1.5 hours with a tutor. This does not concern me in any case, my favorite phrase: “4 (out of 10) is an excellent mark, so as not to be removed from the individual plan. Enough!!!"

    To apply for an individual plan, only an application is needed from the documents. But in order for the school director and the teacher's council to allow (now in Belarus it is at their discretion), you need to communicate with them normally, tell them why your child cannot attend school every day. The easiest way is to apply to the school where children are already studying on an individual plan (call and find out in your RONO). They need clear arguments: about the child's professional sports during lessons, about endless business trips of parents or even living outside the country part of the time ... Some simple explanation that school is not bad, but there is simply no opportunity to walk every day to the maximum);)

    Teachers are comfortable with such children - he is listed in the class, and it is not necessary to teach him easier to conduct lessons when there are fewer children

    For a very good relationship, you can invite your own teacher once a week to be a paid tutor (ours refused, she said that she could not take money and study when the child was not far behind :))

    8. With the current orientation towards lagging and middle peasants, even the most beautiful teacher does not have the opportunity to work normally with “strong” children. My daughters are very, very bored in the classroom: I decided for myself and all the neighbors and there is nothing to do. And half the class can't cope. I don’t understand at all what the children are doing in elementary school, if instead of 25 hours mine are engaged 1.5 hours a week with a tutor - and they have 9 and 10.

    Daughters are listed in the class. Every morning they have the choice to attend all the lessons. Do not want. Generally. They prefer to stop by for a while, take control tests and take new ones.

    9. For me, grades are not important at all. No way. And most of all I want to protect children from this school assessment - as I wrote, it hurts real achievements in adult life.

    It hurts both excellent students and poor students. Not the same criteria, either from those results and by the wrong people ...

    When a child wins (or loses) in sports, this is a correct assessment - based on the result. But not a school grade.

    In school teaching, no real assessment can be made. It all has no practical application and measurable results.

    If my daughter has time to read half a book while a neighbor on her desk reads one page, then this is not a reason to give her 10 - there is no result for her. This is an indicator that she has been reading for 6 years, took speed reading courses and read several hundred books. And the neighbor didn't even read ten books, she learned to read at school, she reads for two years using a bad method.

    Therefore, assessment in such a situation harms both girls (especially self-esteem) - it is not their results (but the results of a different approach to teaching their mothers).

    My assessment - a child with interest and hobby is busy with something - 10.;)

    And all assessment attempts are fucking awesome! ;)

    For example, a beadwork circle - each girl makes her own products (she chooses what she wants from the samples) - the result is clear, the process is a pleasure. And no grades are needed ... I like this kind of activity for children - each at its own pace, someone will make one product, someone will make 10, someone is simple, someone is super complicated ... And why more assessments?

    Or an animation circle (at the computer).

    It's all free with us - and much more useful and enjoyable than school lessons ...

    I am categorically against evaluations - life will appreciate the result, why injure and spoil childhood ...

    10. School subjects do not bother me at all - I sincerely do not understand why it is necessary to teach exactly such a volume of just such disciplines (I would form the program in a completely different way, now we have not an agrarian or industrial age, but a very informational age).

    Parents still hire tutors before entering the university - I prefer to do it right away (6-7 grade or when there), without torturing the children with a thousand hours of incorrect study of the subject. For some 100-200 hours of interesting individual lessons, the child will know the subject better than a school teacher;) saving 1000 hours on more exciting activities than sitting out in class;)

    Studying with tutors can be replaced with free circles of the corresponding direction. Or preparatory courses at BSU are inexpensive.

    Children go to almost all the circles of my and my friends either FREE OF CHARGE, or for a nominal payment.

    My children read a lot - therefore they write competently - there is a direct relationship.

    That is, at school, daughters simply have nothing to do - out-of-school teaching methods allow them to assimilate a larger amount of information several tens (or hundreds) times faster.

    The school is nothing more than a storage room for the children. My children and at home can stay well

    12. The child's ability to be in society is best developed in “courtyard companies”. When interaction takes place without boundaries and without adult control. This can be a company of children with their grandmother in the village or at the dacha, in a sanatorium or a pioneer camp, after a club or school, at competitions, and so on. The point is that in 10 minutes of change under the supervision of teachers, the child's ability to interact with other people does not develop as well as in a freer environment. And killed for this from 5 hours every day ... What for ?! There is always an alternative: as a child, I was more friends in the company of chess and in the yard. In addition, in sports clubs there is almost no risk of being “bullied”, as is often the case at school.

    13. About the teachers.

    I never saw a single argument proving that highly paid successful people work in a modern Belarusian school. The fact that 30-40 years ago some of you had a "star" composition of teachers in individual schools - has nothing to do with the current situation. We grew up at a different time, when everyone's salaries were approximately equal. With other teachers - people respected in society. It's different now.

    For me, isolated examples of wonderful people among teachers of past centuries are never an argument for me to send my children to “scrapping” in the modern system of Belarusian school education. I absolutely do not see the relationship between Janusz Korczak and the students of the pedagogical university, who did not get a passing grade to a more prestigious institute ... And then, according to the distribution, they teach poor children what they themselves do not really know ... complain on the sidelines and still obediently fulfill everything that is required of them outside the framework of the contract ...

    I can't stop seeing that most of the teachers have stopped growing professionally. Many of these women did not have the best personal life - and this is broadcast to children ... And teachers in schools remain at their workplaces not because this is their vocation and every hour of work is a joy to them, but rather from despair: all these “I will work to pensions "or" what else can I do "...

    I can respect people for their actions and deeds. For strength of character, for will. I see no reason to treat other than with indifference, whiners who do nothing to improve their lives, who talk snobbishly, accusing more successful people, but even their envy does not help them to start doing something with themselves and their lives.

    And I don’t want my children’s childhood to be spent listening to ideology and other lovely activities ...

    14. There are certainly exceptions. Isolated cases. But out of dozens of teachers, how many “exceptions” will teach your child, especially in grades 5-11? And what should the students of the other teachers do? And what should parents answer to a child's question: "Mom, why is the teacher shouting at us all the time?" Do you have any other answer option, except: “Because I am not fit for the job!” ???

    15. I proceed from the concept that society pays for the work of each person in accordance with the BENEFIT brought by the person: if from the “good” inflicted by force on schoolchildren we take away the harm that teachers inflict discipline, ideology, equalization and other delights of the school, then work most teachers are assessed quite adequately. And even half of the teachers can get a negative value, that is, they are overpaid ...

    16. Each person chooses for himself: where and by whom he works, how much and how he earns, what his life is filled with. The teachers themselves CHOSE to shove unclaimed unnecessary knowledge into unmotivated people for a shameful salary. The same applies to saleswomen and conveyor workers: these people CHOOSE not to learn and not to grow.

    My friends and I earn decent money: but we are all constantly learning, at any age.

    I spend more on my education every year than the average annual salary in the country. And its time. Despite three children and work. Every year I read hundreds of professional books, listen to audio courses while driving and watch hundreds of hours of video courses - it's all on the internet for free. They prefer to watch TV. That's why I shouldn't sympathize their small salary and low status !!! What have they done to improve their lives ???

    My teachers and I are colleagues: TEACHERS. But I don’t have to bear all their burdens and be not a “respected person in society”. Because I do not hold on to the "rate", but took shape as an Individual Entrepreneur and I am responsible myself for the level of their income.

    I don’t have the pride to try to be a TEACHER for children who are forcibly forced into the same room as me. I prefer teaching people who value and need what I show. By which the received from me WILL IMPROVE life. Will be useful and will be used.

    I respect tutors: these people do not sit and whine, how little they pay and treat them badly ... They EARN !!!

    17. I have been taught and are being taught now by people who earn more per day than the annual salary of school teachers. Everything that I can and know (what I use in life), I got outside the school walls. I cannot remember ANY teacher from all my schools, from whom I would have received at least something that I use in my life now.

    18. In teaching my children, I prefer to use the findings and methodological materials of business trainers and management consultants - this is closer to me professionally than the methodological developments of Belarusian teachers ...;)

    19. Personally, I have nothing to do with the school system. Just a mother who chose to teach children at home. I don't care about government policy. I am not fighting for "world peace". Everything suits me. If only they did not interfere. I am sure that if each person, with maximum dedication, engages in his family and his business / work, then the life of the whole society will be much better than from the endless "talking shop" and demagoguery. I have neither the time nor the desire to participate in political discussions.

    20. I do not consider myself an example to follow, God forbid - this narcissism does not pull me at all;) I do not and will not have a goal to please EVERYONE. I live my life, I bring up my children. Which is what I wish for everyone. I write my reasoning and my experience with my children. Other parents will have different experiences.

    21. I willingly answer questions like "how to do this?" or "how are you doing?" But I am not tolerant of judgmental statements about my inconsistency with other people's ideals. As a rule, I delete aggressive judgments about me. And I immediately press “block” those inadequate people who allow themselves such ridiculous behavior.

    Why won't the modern school change in the near future?

    When I hear how they start to scold officials from education, I am always surprised. If we consider the Ministry of Education as a business structure, then they work great - the customer pays money for the desired result, and they issue the paid product in accordance with the “terms of reference” for years.

    Try to forget the demagoguery and rhetorical speeches of officials. Think, what two functions does the school perform on the order and for the money of the state? Yes, right. First, children should not interfere parents to work for the state (if not to work as a state employee, then at least pay taxes). For this, children must be safely supervised during the working day. Fundamentally, the school does not care whether the child can use the knowledge gained at the desk in real life. Our schools are only responsible for the physical safety of children.

    Second, graduates must fill vacant jobs. Who does the state lack? What positions are often vacant? Artists? Writers? Actresses? Directors? Singers? Of course not. The school realizes a nationwide goal: to release standard socialized robots for officials and factory workers. And the Ministry of Education is doing an excellent job with this task.

    Basically, the state has a problem to fill the most "non-prestigious" places - it needs workers and state employees. That is, the school is faced with the task in the learning process to form “dumb” cadres for unfilled vacancies with low-paid routine work. And the school copes with this task perfectly.

    The way of teaching, which we have for granted, does not burden children intellectually, but, on the contrary, discourages the desire to learn, kills cognitive activity. Quality learning is only possible through living and acting on your own. All this information noise, called lessons at school, is not learning, but a waste of time and deliberate "dullness" of the child.

    Kids want real life activities that are fun and easy to understand. The experience is important for the child, which can be reproduced with his own hand. Take, for example, chemistry or physics - the most boring subjects in school. However, in Moscow there is "The Professor Nicolas Show", demonstrating physical and chemical experiments at children's parties and birthdays. Children are delighted - they are interested in just such an understandable and visual form of education.

    The essence of our culture of education is simple: the school curriculum, to put it mildly, is outdated, and the skills and knowledge acquired do not correspond to what a child really needs in life, and even more so does not correspond to the necessary skills of an adult - in a high-paying job or in business. At the same time, the school curriculum is so easy and primitive that it can be learned by an intelligent child with the help of modern teaching methods in a much shorter interval of time than is allocated for it. Therefore, it is easier for more developed children to go through it without entering into confrontation with the existing system, and to obtain the necessary knowledge on their own or with the help of interested adults.

    Let's look at exactly how education at school is organized from the point of view of obtaining the result the state needs - training a worker for a conveyor belt at a factory or training a petty official.

    What is assembly line work? These are routine operations of the same type that have no ultimate goal. The worker makes them mechanically, without hesitation. Creative thinking and free will are prohibited. Similarly, it is forbidden at school to solve problems not according to a scheme, but in a new way. You are obliged to do everything as written in the textbook. The child should give answers to questions, clearly repeating them after the teacher, without expressing his opinion on pain of a bad grade.

    Start of work, breaks, end of work are strictly regulated - both at the plant and at the school. All children should be equally "working" - they learn the same disciplines at the same speed. The manifestation of the child's personality traits is prohibited or condemned.

    The teaching methodology is designed to "stupefy" children through obedience, to accustom the child to the routine repetition of primitive operations.

    School lessons are a waste of time. Noise, they sat down - it is necessary to calm down the whole class, several minutes pass until the teacher calms everyone down. Opened the tutorials - it will take a few minutes for everyone to find the page they need. The teacher repeats the same thing from lesson to lesson and asks the children the same thing.

    The main efforts of teachers are spent on teaching children to automatic obedience, to work exactly on the call, to mechanical repetition of what has been learned.

    Thus, over 11 years, the state has managed to form socialized “robots” out of about 90% of children who are willing to do physical work or routine “mechanical” pseudo-intellectual labor for a small salary of a state employee. This is the second function of the school besides the "locker".

    Our statesmen are not able to foresee the nearest future. So why should the state change something in the education system, if the existing system, in their opinion, perfectly copes with the tasks set?

    What does the future hold for our children?

    In recent years, the world has been changing at a tremendous rate. We are bombarded with streams of information, new technologies are constantly being invented, and our life is almost incomparable with the life of our ancestors. The society has changed so much that the recipes “how to live correctly” from our grandmothers and great-grandmothers no longer work.

    Their parenting recipes did not work for our mothers even in raising our generation. Moreover, they cannot work on our children. And if we want our children not to get lost in this world, so that they can function normally, build a career or their own business, create happy families, then we need to do something differently.

    Let's go back to 1914 - a hundred years ago. How did any peasant family live? “A horse is slowly climbing up the hill,” and a six-year-old child is a full-fledged labor unit. Mom does not need to think about his education, about his self-realization, about how to reveal his personal potential. They are doing well: he is a man at the age of six, the second man in the family, carries brushwood. And he will live like this all his life. And mom is doing well, she does not need to take to the circles, or pay for the tutor - life is a success.

    As soon as it comes to people who in those years wanted to give their children more than a hard peasant fate, for example, about nobles, then the cook and the maid replaced the household appliances, the child was not even found tutors, but hired foreign tutors with accommodation. And after home education, the children went to an elite lyceum with a highly paid teaching staff.

    If you take the Soviet times, our grandmothers were still lucky with our mothers - everything was clear and understandable. There was a school near the house. Or the child could strain and go to the best gymnasium, then to the university. If the child was not “drawn” to the institute, oddly enough, after vocational school he earned more at the plant than an engineer with a higher education earned.

    And it was clear what and how to teach children. The task of the parents was quite simple: to arrange a better school and help to enter the institute with a higher prestige, after which the child's life will automatically settle down normally. What to do with children, in the Soviet Union, it was completely clear - the child will graduate from school, graduate from a university and will be a respected member of society.

    Unfortunately, now the graduation of any Russian university does not give any guarantees to anyone. And for those who dream of going to Harvard, the Russian school is of little help.

    And parents who want success and happiness for their children have a problem: the world is changing very quickly. In a maximum of ten years, technology and robots will replace many routine operations associated with physical labor. There are already factories employing two operators instead of a thousand workers. Two people operate robots, the rest is automated. Robots have been invented, replacing the labor of cleaners, drivers, workers. A number of professions will soon disappear, as pagers recently disappeared.

    It remains to reduce the cost of production, and routine low-paid manual labor will be transferred to technology. In 20 years, none of our children will be able to go to work as a janitor, worker or taxi driver, even if they want to. As soon as robots become cheaper in the framework of mass production, then any entrepreneur will choose not to hire a worker, but to buy a robot that works in three shifts, does not get sick and does not drink. The cost of buying a robot will pay off in a couple of years due to savings on salaries, sick leave and vacation pay.

    People who fail to become intellectually developed and creative will survive on welfare, because there will be practically no simple physical work for them. Technologies are now significantly different from what they were 20 years ago. And in another 20 years, our children will have to live in a world where physical labor will be almost completely transferred to technology and robots.

    The second type of work that will almost disappear in the expected future is routine intellectual work, which is gradually being replaced by computer programs. Thanks to IT technologies, where a thousand accountants used to be required, five, but highly qualified accountants, will suffice, the rest will be calculated by the computer. Thanks to the automation and implementation of e-government systems, the need for officials will significantly decrease. The number of jobs with routine non-creative work, previously considered intellectual, will be reduced tenfold due to IT technologies.

    It is obvious that our statesmen cannot calculate the change in the structure of the labor market. They are unable to prepare in advance for that new world, where there will be robots, where everything will be in computer programs, where there will be no demand for low-skilled labor and for the modern level of education of schoolchildren and students in the post-Soviet space. And this trend is visible in Western countries - a huge number of workers have become unemployed, they cannot find another job, they sit on social benefits and die, drinking too much, because there is no meaning in life, there are no goals. Likewise, university graduates in these countries are unable to find jobs in line with their diploma.

    And either our children will receive a different education thanks to us, or we, with the help of the school, will spend their childhood on knowledge and skills that were useful in the 19th century, but after 20 years they will not even help the child just find any job and feed ourselves. Yes, there will be some brilliant children who will "break through themselves." But are you sure your child will be one of them? Personally, I myself prefer to give my children the knowledge, skills and abilities that are in demand in the modern world.
