She offered the whole world a whole system for organizing and planning cleaning in her own home. Of course, not all aspects of its rules suit our Russian hostesses. But, most of the ideas are very interesting and quite applicable to our apartments.

    The main rules of a happy housewife

    The flylady system assumes a beautiful and neat appearance of the keeper of the hearth. But at the same time, a regular house dressing gown does not fit. Clothing should be comfortable and acceptable for meeting guests at any time. Another interesting attribute of a happy housewife is lace-up shoes, which prevents you from lying on the sofa and relaxing.     • Every day we allocate, determine the time that you are ready to devote to putting things in order in the house. Everyone has a different time. For some, it is easy to allocate half an hour for cleaning, someone is limited to 20 minutes, and for very busy ladies, 10 minutes will be enough.     But since it is focused primarily on American realities, which, of course, differ from ours, we have adjusted some points specifically for Russian women.

    Fly Lady in Russian style

    The creator of the unique method has established the following cleaning rules:

    1. Instead of cleaning for a long time, take only 15 minutes in the morning and the same amount in the evening. To do this, set a timer on your phone.
    2. During these 15 minutes, do not try to wash the entire apartment. Concentrate on just one room.
    3. Don't move on to the next room until you've completed the first.
    4. Pay special attention to the so-called "hot spots" - places where you like to put all sorts of things and where rubbish accumulates (usually these are different shelves, chests of drawers).

    8. In the morning before and in the evening after cleaning, pamper yourself: drink tea or coffee, leaf through your favorite magazines, take a relaxing bath.
    9. Once a week, devote one hour to light cleaning of the entire apartment (removing dust from surfaces, dirt from the floor).

    A Day in the Life of a Fly Lady

    Now let's see how this looks in practice.

    You wake up in the morning. It doesn't matter if you're working or not, from the very beginning you need to put yourself in order. Marla Seeley absolutely rightly notes that nothing disciplines us more than a well-groomed appearance.

    Gather your hair, wash your face, brush your teeth, make your bed, dress nicely, cook breakfast for yourself and your family, run the laundry, take your vitamins.

    After that, relax a little, reward yourself with a couple of minutes of pure pleasure and do what you like.

    Then pick up your phone, set the timer to exactly 15 minutes, and start your daily mini-cleaning routine.

    Here is the most interesting: where exactly to start it and how?

    We divide the apartment into zones corresponding to the rooms. That is, the kitchen is one zone, the bathroom is the second, the living room is the third, and so on.

    Remember: never try to rush from one area to another, because in this case you will never completely wash one separate room. That is why we make such a division - to do the cleaning.

    The main thing is no fuss. Not in one day, but you will have time to do everything.

    But if you have a very small entrance hall, in which you only need to wash the rug, wash the floor, wipe the dust and clean the shoes, then perhaps seven days will be a bit much, and you will have enough, for example, four days to completely clean this area.

    By the same principle, decide how much time it will take to other places. It all depends on the individual characteristics of the room: on the area, the degree of debris and pollution.

    We return to our morning. After cleaning and washing the necessary places in the zone in 15 minutes, turn off the timer and feel satisfaction from your work. Seelie thinks this moment is very important, and she's right.

    You have to thank yourself for, albeit short, but still efforts. It's better to do something than nothing at all, right? After a couple of months of such step-by-step actions, you will be amazed to find that your apartment is really clean!

    In the evening, after coming home from work or freed from household chores, repeat the cleaning ritual, continuing to ennoble your area. At the end, wash the dishes or run the dishwasher.

    It's easy, even kids can learn it. If you bother alone, the effect, of course, will be, but not so lightning fast: litter, so everyone is much, but only you should clean up? Save yourself a little, or rather, your nerves.

    House cleaning will be much easier. We understand that family members will not get used to this immediately, and may not even hear you the first time. Have patience and stickers: for the first time, hang small reminders in places where “family” garbage most often accumulates.

    Now you can divide the house into cleaning zones with a clear conscience. Marla Seeley offers us the following division:

    1. Zone: dining-hallway-entrance
    2. Zone: backdoor-laundry-kitchen-pantry
    3. Zone: nursery-additional bedroom-workshop-bathroom
    4. Zone: master bedroom-toilet-another bathroom
    5. Zone: living room

    However, in the conditions of Russian apartments, such a division becomes inappropriate, another thing is your private home. Fly lady cleaning in a private house can be distributed according to the presented zones, and depending on the type of structure of your home.

    In a private house there may not be 2 bathrooms, but 3 and 4, there may not be two bedrooms, but 4 on each floor of the house. And there may not be a living room at all, or it may turn out to be combined with a dining room ... There are many options, but there are also many solutions

    Here is an approximate plan for cleaning an apartment, say, a two-room apartment:

    1. Zone: living room (children's)
    2. Zone: bedroom
    3. Zone: kitchen
    4. Zone: entrance-hallway
    5. Area: bath (+toilet) -balcony (storage room)

    It is not necessary to adhere to this particular plan, provided to you for clarity: you can always organize the zones at your discretion. Maybe you want to make the bathroom and hallway one cleaning area, and the kitchen with a balcony - another.

    Or, in general, make up not 4 or 5 zones, but, say, 3: a studio apartment is also suitable for this option. In short, it all depends on your imagination and the time available. Try it and it will be easier for you to treat cleaning.

    Be careful with your zones, as you'll be cleaning the same zone all week and for, say, 15 minutes a day. Next week is another zone. And so on in order, until you finish with all the zones within a month. Then - all over again.

    3. To do list in the zone

    After deciding on the zones, sketch out a detailed list of what you need to do in a week in a particular zone. For example, in the bathroom area you need:

    • Wipe the mirrors
    • Clean the sink, bath (shower) and toilet
    • Wash the toothbrush holder
    • Wash baseboards
    • Remove dust / cobwebs / mold from the ventilation grille
    • Polish the faucet and handles
    • wash the door
    • Throw away empty vials and packaging

    4. Routines

    In addition to cleaning the area daily, you should develop good habits such as a morning and evening routine. Actually, these are the things for which you also allocate 10-15 minutes every morning and every evening.

    For example, after waking up, water the flowers, clean the cat litter box, or tidy up the bathroom a little: wipe the mirrors, hang a clean towel. In the evening, wash all the dishes after dinner, wipe the sink (Marla Seeley devoted a whole philosophy to the sink), disassemble the “hot spots” (tables, bedside tables, window sills and even chairs) in 2 minutes. With this approach, the fly lady cleaning the apartment will not seem like something “cosmic” to you.

    5. "Hot spots"

    So-called "hot spots" are easily accessible horizontal surfaces where you and your family often "storage" trash. Bedside tables, tables, window sills, shelves at the level of your eyes and hands are ideal for such purposes.


    They must be taken apart. Every day. You can allocate 10-15 minutes for them, if you see a “specific blockage” on them. A blockage can be called any mess that you clean up for more than two minutes.

    6. Debuffing the Fly Lady

    Or, in other words, getting rid of trash from your home. Junk is everything that has been lying dead weight in your house for years and, in fact, is never used for its intended purpose. These can be old magazines, books, things, shoes, dishes, pet accessories, jewelry and even gadgets.

    We understand that it is very difficult to part with the household rubbish that you have kept and cherished for so many years. You have practically grown together with him. But you will have to get rid of it if you do not plan to acquire your “regalia” from head to toe.

    Throw away, give away or sell unwanted items. The process can be a bit lengthy, but trust me, it's worth it. You have no idea how much space you will free up in the house. This is the holy law of the fly lady for cleaning the house.

    Marla Seeley generally suggests throwing away 27 things. We suggest you start with at least 10 things once a week. Maybe three times a week. Nobody forbids to get carried away with this process *rofl*

    7. Cleaning plan for the month

    The list, by the way, must include the ECHU (weekly cleaning hour, or hour of blessing at home), which you perform once a week on a day you have marked in advance. Then it would never occur to you to spend a lot of time on the general cleaning of the fly lady at the end of the month. Professional "flying housewives" spend at least an hour on general cleaning. But this is subject to the system, of course.

    Although, to be honest, we can’t guarantee talking about such numbers if you have a huge three-story cottage with six rooms on each floor, with an attic, a garage, a garden ... In this case, you either definitely have to be an Indian Shiva with six pairs of hands, at least , or to have such a Shiva at your disposal

    8. "Island of purity"

    If it’s difficult, difficult, unrealistic for you personally to take on all this, or, honestly, you’re too lazy for now, then you can organize your own “island of purity”. This is the place in your home that you will clean daily, despite a storm warning, a meteor shower or an earthquake. No, we are not talking about an entire room or area now.

    This is a small area that you will keep perfectly clean. Remember how we mentioned Marla Seeley's sink philosophy earlier? So, for Marla, this island has become ... a sink!

    Marla claims that a cleanly washed, polished, sparkling sink keeps you relaxed and adds a little meaning to your life. The result after the actions taken will be immediately visible: in theory, you should enjoy contemplating your shiny shell and strive to maintain beauty and cleanliness around.

    Moreover, you can immediately praise yourself: run to the bathroom and arrange a “foam party” with aromatic oils, masks, candles and champagne. Take a lot of everything in the bath: then you can immediately develop the implementation of routines in yourself. After your “mini-holiday”, you will have to put everything in its place and tidy up.
