Next year we will have first grade again. :))) My son will go to school for the first time. But... until recently, he didn’t want to study at all! And all my motivation to study does not work on him. The son even agreed to herd cows and live in the forest, just so as not to study. Just like the proverb: I don’t want to study, but I want to get married. :))
Realizing that coercion would not achieve anything, I resigned myself in the hope that he would finally wise up, grow up and change his mind. And when I was offered to try out KUMON notebooks, I didn’t really hope that they would interest my son. But, I was sure that my daughter would be happy to read them from cover to cover and complete all the tasks. And it doesn’t matter that they are already too simple for her, especially “Addition. Level 1”. :)))

But a miracle happened! My son was very interested in the notebooks! The most amazing thing is that it is enough for just one lesson! And with each lesson he enjoys learning more and more! He's trying so hard! After the third lesson, he even agreed with me that it was time to learn to read!

The quality of the notebooks is excellent. A4 format. The cover is KSSH (thread stitching), which ensures good openability and durability of the notebook. Thick offset paper. Clear font.

A few words about series of notebooks “Kumon. Mathematics":
"The Kumon. Mathematics series is based on the unique methodology of the largest international center for additional education Kumon. Each workbook develops a specific mathematical skill by completing gradually more complex and repetitive tasks. Study the workbooks five days a week. About twenty are allotted for completing each task minutes.

The series also includes notebooks of three difficulty levels:
    Level 1 (beginner): addition, subtraction
    Level 2 (basic): addition, subtraction
Level 3 (advanced): addition and subtraction, multiplication, division."

On a notebook "Addition. Level 1" written: “This workbook will teach your child how to add numbers that add up to more than 20.”. And on "Subtraction. Level 1": “This workbook will teach your child how to subtract single and double digit numbers.”. And if you study every day for 15-20 minutes (that’s how long each lesson is designed) you can master everything in about three months. Well, in three months we’ll wait and see.
Shall we tell you about our successes later?
    • Together with the notebook “Addition. Level 1" the child will repeat ordinal counting, and then master adding numbers whose sum is greater than 20. Moving forward in small, consistent steps, he will gain not only mathematical knowledge, but also confidence in his abilities. He will also practice writing, because he will have to write numbers.
    • This workbook is designed for children to work independently. By checking his answers and correcting mistakes, he will develop skills useful for learning in school and develop a sense of independence so that he can easily study on his own in the future.

    What is KUMON?

    • KUMON is the largest international center for further education. Today, more than 4 million children and adolescents aged 2 to 17 years are studying under KUMON programs in 48 countries.
    • The KUMON method is based on repeated performance of the same type of tasks, which, gradually becoming more complex, allow the child to easily master and consolidate acquired skills. By moving forward in small steps, your child will undoubtedly achieve success in mastering the proposed educational material.

Today I want to tell you about our acquaintance with new KUMON notebooks. This time, it's math worksheets focusing on addition and subtraction.

We got acquainted with the first level of notebooks, with the image of a funny pig and a panda :)

    About KUMON Math Workbooks

WITH KUMON notebooks we have known each other for a long time (you can read about our impressions of previous notebooks here:,)

We are very happy and grateful that our favorite publishing house “Mann, Ivanov and Ferber” never ceases to delight us with new products and today we are getting acquainted with new creations by KUMON dedicated to mathematics 🙂

The difference between KUMON math notebooks and those we were familiar with earlier is that now these are notebooks for the child's independent study.

The child must study on his own using notebooks, check his answers and, by correcting his mistakes, develop skills that are useful for learning at school, and develop a sense of independence and independence.

So new math notebooks KUMON are designed for fairly old children who are already preparing for school and can study independently. But, I’ll tell you honestly, we are still a long way from school and from independence too :-), but we study with pleasure using the new KUMON notebooks (though not on our own, but with our mother :)).

Also in the new notebooks there is asterisks indicating the difficulty of the task: one star * indicates a beginner level, two stars ** indicate a basic level, and three stars *** indicate an advanced level. So, thanks to this, you can easily adjust the intensity and difficulty of your classes.

For still little kids like us :-), of course, it’s still too early to complete tasks with two stars **, not to mention three ***, but one star * is just right.

You can receive book chapters by email on the publisher’s website: “Chapter “Addition”, “Chapter “Subtraction”.

Total math workbooks presented in three difficulty levels: for different ages and abilities.

    Level 3

KUMON Math Workbook "Addition" - Level 1

This notebook is designed for teaching children addition of numbers, the sum of which is greater than 20.

As usual, I am very pleased with the design of the notebook, its design and the quality of the printing and paper itself. Everything is done at the highest level, the notebooks are very pleasant to the touch, you really want to work with them :)

Very pleased with the helper pig, which on every page advises the child on how to do better and praises him for his achievements.

For myself I have highlighted 4 main modules in the workbook:

    1. Learning to write numbers from 1 to 20

2 . Filling out tables of numbers from 1 to 120

3 . Addition (blocks with examples on adding numbers from 1 to 10: from 1+1 to 10+10)

    4 . Folding (totals up to 28)

Modules, as in all KUMON notebooks, become more difficult in ascending order Thus, for the youngest mathematicians, only the first module is suitable - learning to write numbers from 1 to 20; the tables turned out to be too complicated for us.

KUMON Math Workbook Subtraction - Level 1

This notebook turned out to be more difficult for us than the “Addition” notebook and most of the tasks in it were not yet age appropriate for us. But I was very pleased with the funny panda assistant:-), and we looked at the notebook itself with great pleasure.

With help Subtraction workbook children will be able to learn subtract single and double digit numbers.

The notebook also contains marks with asterisks *, indicating the difficulty of the levels, but, unfortunately, even the initial level with one single asterisk * turned out to be very difficult for us 🙁 The notebook starts right away with the tables, and we are still not good at writing numbers after 10.

So, the math workbook “Subtraction” contains more modules than the workbook “Addition” and consists of 6 main sections:

    1. Tables of numbers from 1 to 100

2 . Module with repetition of the material covered from the “Addition” notebook (repetition of addition from 1 to 10)

    3. “Subtraction” (examples with subtraction from 2-1 to 18-5)

    4. Subtraction from numbers 10 to 20 (examples)

    5. Subtraction. Repetition (examples to reinforce the material)

    6. Three single digit numbers (mixed calculations - examples using three numbers)

The workbook “Subtraction” turned out to be too “adult” for us, so, reluctantly, we put it on the shelf for a year and a half.

But with the “Addition” notebook, we are studying with pleasure now :)

These are the notebooks. I hope you enjoyed the review!

What do you think of the KUMON workbooks? Have you met them yet? Did the kids like it?

    With love,
